I am soooo over Winter.... WINTER BLAHS...

Monday, March 14, 2011

I think I have hit my breaking point. Usually the weather does not affect me at all. But I really think I have the Winter Blues.

I am so over being cold, not enough sunlight and I think I am ready to snap.

This winter is just to dang long. Enough already.. BRING ME SPRING.

I am in such a crappy mood my poor DH is always on the receiving end of it and I feel bad.

I don't want to do anything I stay in, snack and watch TV, I don't like to go outside and I am a pretty social person.

How do you handle the Winter BLAH's.... I need some suggestions before it gets any worse;

I hope you are feeling better and getting over some of those winter blahs. Indoor exercise might lift your spirits.

Maybe meet a friend at an indoor mall and do some mall walking, then enjoy a healthy snack at the food court and talk.

This sounds fun to me.. I may have to take my own advice. It will be a challenge tho cuz any mall is an hour away for me..

Hope spring finds you soon!

I don't think there is a good way to deal with winter blahs. I like to light a fire in the fireplace, put on a pot of tea and settle down with a good book. My daughter finds that going tanning periodically puts her in a better mood. Of course, if I actually had a tv, then things might be different. LOL

I'm having the same winter blah feelings in Michigan! Last week I went out in my car and sat in the sun. That way I felt the warmth & received some sunlight on me. It felt SO good. Although I don't like to Tan, I found when I get really down from winter, a quick low amount of time in a tanning bed will make me feel so much better & refreshed. I tend not to do this more than 2 times per year because so many people in my family died of melanoma cancer. Another thing I learned is I am vitamin-d deficient. I now take supplements, and my winter blues aren't as bad. The doctor also advises on getting one of those sun boxes (I can't remember the technical name). She says it helps her get through the winter and makes her feel much better.

Soon enough.. It's almost April. .Then Summer.. We are almost there!

DETOX & CLEANSE... what's it all about...

Monday, January 24, 2011

So I hear many people talking about doing a cleanse... what the heck... does it work
what is the best approach to this cleanse... am i eating brown rice and drinking water or am I drinking some chalky drink that will make me poop.

And i am not even going to touch upon the how colonic thing that totally freaks me out..

I know there must be a good way for me to flush out my inside to make way to the new life style I want... but what is it..... what should i try.....

I did start my day off with a glass of water with lemon... what that will really do I have no idea...

Guess there is a lot of reading in my future on this topic...

Do you have an opinion please share with me... I always look forward to hearing other people's thoughts..

My suggestion is just to work toward "clean eating" and "clean cooking". SP Coach Nicole has great articles about it. Basically, it's just eating whole, nutritious foods and cooking them by baking, stir-frying, or steaming.

TOPS is about Taking Off Pounds Sensibly, because fad, quick-fix diets and gimmicks don't work. I copied the list of SP Fast Break Goals and shared it at TOPS, last night. Everyone chose 3 goals, one from each category, and committed to doing them. I thought it was a great way to get back some focus, since we had a horrible month, as a group. Even though I've reached my TOPS goal weight, and become a KOPS, I found 3 little goals that will move me forward, as I work to improve my fitness level while keeping the weight off.

Don't do a colon cleanse!! It doesn't help (there is an episode of Penn & Teller's Bullsh*t about it), and in rare cases it can be harmful. My Aunt had one done and ended up having septic back up into her lungs. She had a foul case of pneumonia that almost killed her.

most "cleanses" are just dumb fads and actually do nothing. If you have a healthy system, your body cleanses itself (as human bodies have been doing for thousands of years!). Stories about impacted matter in colons and such are trivial, at best and outright lies, at worst. Some "cleanses" can be dangerous. Lts of times any weight loss you see is the result of dehydration. Truth is, if you eat right (including eating your RDI of fibre) and you are exercising, your body will most likely do better without a cleanse. I believe that SP actually advises against them!

Ok, so I have no opinion here, but am really hoping there are some great responses. I too wondered if that was the way I should have started. Wasn't too keen on trying a bunch of pills that I had no idea what was in them or what they were actually supposed to do. I have also seen the cleanses where you are on a liquid diet to "clean out the pipes" Sounds gross, and I have no desire to give up my newfound friends fruits and veggies.
For now I'm going to just continue with tracking my food, but any feedback would be great.

So still not into this blog thing.. but will try again...lol

Friday, January 07, 2011

With that is true to many things for me, I seem to start something and then just never follow through with it, be it diets, reading a book or exercise whatever, I get all gung-ho to start something, then it falls to the waist side.

Well this year I am going to try to change that, No I will not blog every day maybe once a week would be a good goal to try..

Not sure... I think I will try to set out some small goals and try to stick with it..

Today I will drink all 8 glasses of water...

How's it going. Try not to be hard on yourself. Just take one day at a time.

That's how it starts. I re-evaluate my goals weekly. I have added in "blog" to my calendar so once a week at least I will be dropping in and blogging. It helps me think things out better.

August 11th - What to say.....

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Ok, so let's try this Blog thing again.

So it seems the summer is almost over and again I don't feel I have made any progress, I am full of good intentions but the follow through kind of sucks.

Anyway, I am starting to come to a realization that no one is going to do this for me, I need to do it myself.

People around me are supportive the only one holding me back is me. Something needs to click and I don't get why it's not. I am a pretty smart girl how can I have let myself get to this point.

I have seen what my future could hold.. My father has gained a ton of weight had a heartattack, gallbladder issues, and so many more things I can take the time to type, and my mom had diabetes.

SNAP OUT OF IT..... Is what I keep trying to tell myself, problem is my whole life people have been taking care of things for me and everything always works out, Now I need to be the one in control and take of things.

THIS IS MY PLAN ----- TAKE CONTROL OF MY OWN LIFE....... but how... this is what I need to work on....

STEP ONE - Create a Plan....

This is what I will work on ... A Plan of attack......

Stayed tooned I will keep you posted on what I come up with....

I'm so right there with you. My summer has seen me gaining weight, not losing. Let's try again. That's all we can do.....just keep trying.

Taking control of your life means taking control of the little things. The goal of wanting to "lose weight" is too big and abstract to really take control of. Start by setting just a few tiny exercise and healthy eating goals. If you stick to them, you'll start noticing the big picture coming together. It takes a lot of time, persistence, and commitment, but you can do it!

Wow, this post could be my post! I had all kinds of crazy summer goals and here we are in the middle of August and I am not close to any of them. Why do we hold ourselves back?

Sounds like you've got a handle on it now though. Good luck!

OK... So I am not a blogger...

Friday, April 30, 2010

I don't know how those people are so dedicated to blogging on a daily basis. It is not my thing.. I said I would but I haven't. Sounds like the same excuse I use for exercising...

Well. Blog world. I think I will blog when i think I need to... You never know I could get into a habit and end up doing it daily anyway....

So for now I leave u and will blog again one day..

Apparently it is helpful for some people. I usually cannot think of anything to say.

I think you've run into the same problem that most people do with exercise. When you make a commitment to do something everyday, it's way too overwhelming. You end up skipping a few days, which leads to a few more, and then you feel like you've completely failed, so why bother.

If you want to create a habit, try making a smaller more manageable commitment, and make it very specific. For example, you could promise to blog on the same day that you do your weigh-in. It's only once a week, so you'll have no excuse to skip it. And it's connected with a regular event, so you won't just forget about it either. Once you've made it a habit, you can add a day.

You can use the same approach for exercise, or anything else that you would like to make a regular habit.
