The Pain Shall Not Be Victorious

Friday, April 20, 2012

In my last blog, I mentioned that I fell a few times recently. The pain was so overwhelming that yesterday I went to see my doctor. He examined me in the office and sent me to the hospital to get stat x-rays. He gave me medication to alleviate the swelling and pain. I slept pretty good after taking the medicine. I am now using a cane to assist me in my walking. He (doctor) told me not to let my pride cause me more pain.

It is such a beautiful day outside, but here I am cooped inside looking out the window longingly. I can't stand or walk more than a few steps at a time. The pain is on my total left side from thigh to toe. I'm now back in bed. If I have to do upper body exercises I will get my thirty minutes of exercise in today. The pain shall not be victorious over me today.

Fallen But Faithful

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

I fell three times last week. The first time the chair at work kept moving and I hit the floor hard. My bottom and my neck was hurting by the end of the night. I thought I fully recovered after a day of rest. However, the next day I fell again. It was more like a trip and I wasn't hurt at all. The last time I was working in my backyard and made a misguided step and flipped and landed on my hands and knees. This really hurt bad. I did not go to the doctor at any time. Yes, I did what I often accuse the nurses at work of doing. I decided it did not warrant an er visit. I took some pain meds and went into work. I am working despite the pain. It will get better and I will be okay.

In the past, I would not have continued to do my daily walks and would have attempted to stay off my feet. However, this time I decided to get different results I must change my past methods. That is why I am going to force myself to walk and keep moving through this pain.

I went grocery shopping today and I did very well. I bought fresh vegetables and fruit. I bought chicken. I stocked up on my water. Overall, I did an excellent job. I am very proud of myself in my grocery selections.

Feeling Nutty

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

I may have gave up soda, but I have consumed too much sodium. This past weekend I mindlessly ate a bag of pistachios. I started off fine. I ate 15 nuts and walked away. I somehow returned to the pretty covered dish I put them in over and over again and during the course of the weekend I polished off the bag. I am now paying for it. My legs are swollen, achy and my body is bloated and hurting. I had completely too much salt. I am paying dearly. I am purging my body with good old-fashioned water. It will take a few days, but I will survive. I am paying with every step I take.

8 Days and Counting

Sunday, April 08, 2012

I have survived eight days of no soda and/or carbonated beverages. The next thing I give up will be candy. I never realized how much candy I eat. I don't eat chocolate, but I do indulge in the sugary, chewy, tart, sour stuff. I don't like anything "Gummi" (bears, worms, etc.). I love now and laters, fruity tootsie rolls, starbursts, skittles, hot tamales, puffy peppermint pillows, sweet tarts, omg. the list can go on and on. I design candy buffets as a side gig so I am familiar with all kinds of candy. I think I will give up candy beginning May 1st. For now, I am just happy to have given up the soda pop!!! Eight days and counting.

Oprah used to say..."Say No To the White Powder". She meant sugar as well as flour. Good advice in either case. When I finally got processed sugar out of my diet, I was amazed how much sweeter things like strawberries, apples, yams, and carrots became. I love raw fruit and veggies now, though I am careful to track it on my Nutrition Tracker. Cause things like mangoes...are the sugar OD! But getting off of soda is big step! Be Well.

Yay, emoticon emoticon on saying bye, bye to soda. Candy/sugar will not be fun. If my experience is anything to go by, you may hate yourself for about 5 days due to cravings, but after that, it's wonderful!
