I'm Baaaaaaack!!

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Took a bit of a sabbatical for a week or so; didn't even go to the gym to work out for 10 days! Don't know why I went AWOL but, I'm back now and rarin' to go. Went to the gym this morning and worked out for an hour. Sure did feel good!!
I think winter is finally getting to me; I want to be able to go outside and "play" again. Both Ray and I are suffering from cabin fever. That's one of the minuses of living in the country; you can't just pop over to the neighbour's for a chat or a cup of tea.
Oh well, spring isn't too far away!

Glad to have you back! Sorry to hear of your problems with your back. Warm soaks in the tub or warm moist heat (not dry) on the back really do help. So does laying on the floor with your butt up against the sofa. The only problem with that, is getting up off the floor!! Start back easy, you don't want those spasm to return! Take care!

Muscle Spasm in Back

Friday, February 04, 2011

All I did was bend over to put a pot away this morning and, just like the t.v. commercials, I could NOT straighten up! Never had this before in my life. I tried to gently stretch it out but no luck; figured I'd be relegated to the sofa with a heating pad for the day, but Ray wanted to go to the gym; so I tagged along.
Managed to finally get my running shoes on(!) and then I did a light intensity workout on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I actually felt better afterwards! Strength exercises were foregone today however.
When I got home, I took a 222 and am sitting with a heating pad on my back right now. Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow.
Never again will I pooh-pooh the ad for the back pain meds on t.v. LOL

Baby Steps

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

After reading the messages re: getting past not wanting to exercise, I put on my running shoes, grabbed my MP3 player, and headed for "Ellie". Did an abbreviated version of the beginners interval training program (20 min instead of 30) and.......IT FELT GOOD!!!! Now I need to focus on that feeling and use it as a motivational tool.
I've also gone back and changed some of my fitness goals to more achievable levels. As for the baby steps, each day I write down one goal to" score" in my journal and, when I score, I write it down in big letters. My goal for today was to do 17 min on Ellie and I actually did 20!
THAT'S going to be a motivational tool for me.
Now it's time to head for the shower!!

Temporary Leave (of my senses!)

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

For a couple of days I have TOTALLY lost track of my short and long term goals; and I'm not sure why. It's almost like I'm sabotaging my plans. I've pigged out on nearly everything I shouldn't including ice cream, cookies, crackers and cheese, and on and on. I KNOW I shouldn't even have these things in the house but, when your other half insists on eating these things, what can you do?
Even my exercise schedule has gone to h--l in a hand basket (as my mom used to say). We haven't been to the gym in over a week (I miss it!) and my plans to make up for it by exercising at home have gone by the wayside. I've tried discussing it with Ray but he just tunes me out. Going it alone is tough!
I've posted my workout schedule on my office wall and the fridge, along with a list of strength exercises in hopes it will motivate me.
If only we lived in town. Then I could get to the gym whenever I wanted instead of relying on the whims of others. BUT I don't; so I HAVE to do this solo. I HAVE TO MAKE IT WORK!! After all this is my life I'm fooling with.
Maybe I'm just suffering from a bout of cabin fever and need to get out of here even for a few hours. Long winters can do that to a person. Maybe today I'll bundle up and spend some time outdoors. Hopefully that'll get me my mojo back!!
Wish me luck!

Got my Heart Rate monitor!

Thursday, January 27, 2011

I picked out a heart rate monitor today and am anxious to try it out. Got some terrific news from my doctor re: my cholesterol levels. The HDL has increased and both the LDL and triglycerides have decreased!! Hip Hip Hooray!!!!!!
He's impressed with my progress and told me to keep up with the Spark program. He even said he was going to recommend checking out the sparkpeople website to some of his patients!
So, even though I had to suffer through my annual "boob squeeze", it was a GREAT day for me. I even managed to get in some walking exercise while shopping at the grocery store.
