I plan a decadent dessert for evening. Notice I didn't say unhealthy or fattening. Here are some of my favs. A parfait. Sugar free jello or pudding layered with real whipped cream or whipped topping and fruit. Shaved dark chocolate on top. Have a few vanilla wafers if you "need" a little more. Angel food strawberry shortcake. Sugar-free dessert shell, berries and whipped cream. Banana split. Using fresh fruit around a small scoop of ice cream, again lite whipped topping. Even sprinkles. ATTITUDE. Plate your dessert on a special plate/parfait glass. It's your reward for the day, not the thing you are going to feel guilty about in the morning. YOU'VE HAD A GREAT DAY. HAVE A GREAT EVENING, TOO! Report Inappropriate Comment |

If you know you are going to be hungry at night, then budget some of your daily calories for that purpose- just be VERY careful what you eat. PLAN IT, and stick to your plan. Prepare your snack early in the day, when you are not having any cravings, or feeling bored. Do this as a proactive thing. Prepare a container of A. carrot sticks, celery sticks or other raw veggies with some light dressing B. yogurt and fruit C. oatmeal with cinnamon D. You get the idea- save something healthy for your evening snack out of your daily calorie allotment and set it aside for the evening time that your body is conditioned to snack. Once you build this habit, and discover that you can make small changes and build them into your new plan, you will be more apt to make additional changes. These small steps lead to successes that will build upon each other as you find your way to a healthier you. You have a wonderful network of support here~ be sure to reach out whenever the spirit moves you :) Report Inappropriate Comment |

There are a few things that have helped me. 1. Drink lot's of water during the day. It has helped curb my appetite. 2. keep busy and not watching TV. too many food commercials. But reading or knitting or scrapbooking. Something to occupy our mind and keep your hands busy. 3. Stay out of the kitchen. After dinner I clean up the kitchen get my last bottle of water and turn out the lights. You will find the right combination that works for you. Believe in yourself because you can do this. Hello there! I know you can do this you just need to make some changes within yourself and you have to want it for yourself. Reba sings a line 'something for herself for a change' Don't forget that you are worth something, and if you aren't healthy and happy how can you take care of anyone else? I find my biggest thing is to make sure to exercise. It is not only good for my heart and body shape, it makes me feel sooo good when I am done. Then I tend not to wanna over eat as much. I like to do things to take my mind off of eating. I will crotchet, read or just have some tea. Clean out a closet get rid of all those 'someday they will fit again clothes' and make room for some new styles you will be needing once the weight comes off. Make sure you drink lots of water to fill you up. Don't forget to look for the good in each day and think yourself happy and be thankful for all the good in your life. When I realize how little I really do need to eat, I am ashamed at what I have been eating. Lots of hungry children in other countries...did I really need those cheetos? When someone else just wants a piece of bread? So I get a cheaper grocery bill too by reminding myself I don't really need all that. I can't stress enough how important exercise really is. Do you have a friend around you anywhere who can help you out by exercising with you or going to the same gym? Do you have anyone to help at home with your hubby while you take time out for yourself? I also try and give myself a goal of having logged in more fitness minutes than I have in sparkpoints, that way I know I am off exercising and getting active, more than I am sitting on the computer. I know this is hard, but it has to come within yourself and YOU have to want it...and to want it for yourself. Best of luck on your journey and I know you can do this!

Have faith in yourself, YOU CAN DO IT! When I am wanting more than I am suppose to have, I find something to do to keep my mind and hands busy, then I don't think about food. I have found that spreading the spark here on SP helps a ton! Good luck! Kat Report Inappropriate Comment |

I totally agree with you both! It will never be easy for us, but we can make small changes that will lead to a big success down the road. I have decided that my last meal for the day needs to end no later than 8:00pm. After that, it is off the couch and on the computer. That way my hands are moving around the keyboard instead of in the fridge! I also have about 4 jars stocked with hard candy at all times. By time I eat one or two my cravings have stopped. That way I've only consumed about 40 calories compared to the multitude I would eat before it was too late. You can do this! Just remember: small steps. We're here for you!

Barefootn is so right. I only eat at certain times every day. For me breakfast is 9:30-10am lunch is 1:30-2pm afternoon snack around 4, dinner is 7-7:30pm and a snack at 9pm which 99% of the time is fruit. You need to find out what works for you and try to stick to it. You should also find something else you find pleasing as a reward. It was so hard to get myself out of the mindset to reward myself with food. If you need a little pick me up at night find something else you enjoy and do that! Maybe a nice cup of herbal tea? You can do this. If I can, you can. I eat for anything....emotions, celebrations, happiness, sadness. What I have found I have to do every day is drink this water. I don't get as hungry. I am getting my body used to eating at certain times. I put in all my food in the tracker. On days where I think I want more, I figure in a few things I can eat more of...like broccoli slaw. I have taken on some projects to keep me busy at night. If I am just sitting, I want to eat..sorta like Pavlov's dog. Another thing, I had to reach out to others. I read other blogs and comment and encourage. It has helped me to keep focused. I also write my own little blog and I also post on the board every day. It isn't easy, but it has been so worth it. I read this things that said something about giving up a year to make my body healthy and I decided I was going to give up a year to take care of me. I am worth it.

Gee I am sorry I ate that late night sandwich and chocolate and nuts. I get a great start for the whole day and then I blow it in the late evening!
that is NOT TRUE--yet.......
I wrote this at 7:00 am!
Now that I wrote it I will re-read it at 9:00 pm tonight (BEFORE I over eat!) and maybe it will make me re-think late night eating! Meaning-- maybe I will have something sensible instead of messing up a whole day of healthy eating.
