Can Protein Shakes Make You Gain Weight?

Yes, I believe so! At least some of them.

I try to find ones that are low calories and high protein. Still I have trouble with some putting weight on me. I think it's the creatine...?

I'm looking now for a protein shake that is low calorie and high protein. Asked for recommendations and received some helpful ones! If anyone else has any recommendations for protein shakes that you have good luck with, please let me know!

I still have some stubborn belly fat to burn so I'm trying to do it with cardio and weights....I don't need the weight gainer! I'm open to suggestions if anyone else has any advise ~ please share!

    How about Whey Isolate? MuscleTech has a 100% Premium Whey Isolate Plus - Chocolate - 3lbs bags at Sam's Club. This will be great since it's just protein without added stuff, plus because it's isolate it will be easier to digest. Great taste and low sugar.

    I'm cautious with mine too- Optimal Nutrition ... so I don't use it everyday for the same reason. I've seen and read about - About Time, 100% whey protein isolate, no artificial sweetners, 25 g protein, 103 cals, 0 carbs!! been meaning to get it but it's pricey

    I think Body Fortress Whey Protein Powder is one of the better powders for low calorie with maximum protein content. A one scoop serving has only 140 calories and 26 grams of protein. Of course with any protein powder you must add the calories from your liquid mix. This particular brand is tasty enough to mix with water, for the very minimum calorie count. I use fat free milk, so one shake is still only 230 calories total. An added bonus is that it is quite inexpensive for a protein powder. I buy mine at Walmart for less than $15.

Protein shakes-well, the only one that ever worked for me was from Shaklee (it was a powder you mixed in). I should try it out again! Kind of expensive-that is why I haven't in a long time. But, it is a great one! Lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks (with exercise). But, for the most part don't know much about them. Good luck! The only thing I read that is the best for getting rid of the visceral fat in the belly is walking! That is why I do lots of it. Have lost 5 inches so far in that area this past year! emoticon

  I'm prepping for surgery and the doctor suggested Bariatric Advantage. It's actually pretty good. It's about 150-160 cals per serving, 8 grams of carbs and 24 grams of protein! The doctor also told me to pop some fruit in there if I feel that I'm not full; though it's a pretty thick shake so I haven't had to do that yet.

    Ive been drinking the VISALUS shakes.Its a nutritional shake that has all the nutrients a person should be eating everyday.

BR>I'm doing the SHAPE kit which is 2 shakes a day to lose weight...if you want to maintain the weight and just drink one a day..which would be the BALANCE kit.

    It really comes down to total calories consumed.....so I think you're on the right track looking for lower cal protein shakes. (they probably have less sugar, I would imagine). sorry I have no suggestions about brands though!

    This is a great question that I have been pondering myself along with the bars. I ended up buying a luna bar, and I must have been in a coma that day because after one bite the sweetness made me ill. Thanks for inquiring, and I am looking forward to the responses!     On another note~the brand I recommended is prepared already~quick & easy 4 on the go. Its got 17? Protein & very low sugars & carbs. My husbands bariatric surgeon rec several & this was one of them. It didn't make him gain at all. He also drinks Isopure (40g protein) ea day~sometimes drinking only half & half next day. This more expensive & found at gnc. I've tasted both & they are tolerable. Isopure was better than I thouught. I know u have no surgery but in the protein world these were both great for anybody!

    I really like the Vega line. Vegetarian, gluten free and minimal additives (no sugar!). I supplement with a half-serving a day rather than the full serving. I'm not training for a marathon after all!

Today's Plan

It's Saturday and I got up at 5 am to go to my first Saturday morning kickboxing class. Didn't want to get out of bed...tried talking myself out of going, but I knew I'd feel better for going then not going. I was right! I feel great that I went.

Wanted to get in a run after class, but it was still dark enough I didn't feel comfortable being out on the trail by myself. Plus, I have a little pain in my left knee. I think from Thursdays class, but I'm really not sure. Debating on going out for a run when the sun comes up or just rest???

New session of yoga starts today. It's an expensive class but it pushes me in a way no other class does...it's just different. Plus I love the flexibility I have...I can now fold myself in half (chest to knee)...couldn't do that before. My running time has gotten faster too. Not sure why or what did it, but must be doing something right!

Rest of today... who knows?? Having all of this done by 9:00 am will be nice!! I think a nap in the afternoon will be just the ticket.

    Great Saturday plan! DH loves the Yoga part of his P90X program; I think he'll incorporate it into his life even after the P90X is over. Just yesterday we had a wellness visit with the Chiropractor (some great deal Groupon thing with a massage involved emoticon ), and the Dr. was commenting on how flexible Daniel was, going through his range-of-motion tests. That made him smile, because he knows how far he's come in just a month of Yoga. So I definitely think it could be responsible for your improved run times!

Awesome job with your fitness; you continually inspire me!!! emoticon emoticon

And, enjoy that nap if you get it!!! emoticon emoticon

Bikini = Commitment

For those who know me, know that my goal for this summer was to get into a bikini. I've shed a lot of weight over the last 15 months and this Spring I've been on the hunt for one. I finally bought one today! I posted on my Spring into Boot Camp team page that it was my goal, so now I'm committed to it! I'm taking my Torture Chamber and Quick Fire challenges serious! I've loved looking at all my SP Friend's pictures and their transformations. I've been inspired. I really want to get tight and toned this year.

This week I've done (for my Torture Chamber and Quick Fire team challenges):

Push ups = 90 (incline, decline, triceps dips, etc)
Squats = 90
Lunges = 90
Skater lunges = 90
Oblique (crunches, bicycle crunches, reverse crunches) = 90
Ran 4 miles of hills
Bicep curls
Shoulder presses
Calf raises with weights
And many more I'm forgetting about from my Super Scuplt and Boot Camp classes this week...

Maybe in a few weeks there will be a picture update!

I was reading Health magazine and came across an article on what to drink for muscle recovery (tart cherry juice) and to sprinkle cayenne powder on your food to get rid of cellulite. I told my daughter what I learned and she says "You're addicted to health and fitness". I thought, Really? Addicted to coffee, chocolate, food...yes, but no one's ever accused me of being addicted of health and fitness. I think I love my new addiction!! Who would of thought, the girl who hated working out and looked for ways to cheat exercise in gym class, would one day become "addicted" to it!

So thanks, Courtney, I'll take that as a compliment!
