Space Coast Marathon training week 4 done!

Another week is in the books!! YAY!!

I ran 3 miles on Tuesday, tight hips made me pass on my Thursday run and opt for some quality foam rolling, but I did make it to spin class Wednesday and then got my long run of 11 miles in on Saturday.

This morning I ran my 3 miles, just a short shake out run, then logged on my daily mile as I usually do. I had some friends post sweet "speedy" comments which definitely made my day because in my short 5 years of running I have never been known as "speedy". It made me look back at my last year and I realized that my pace has definitley improved! In August of 2012 my average paces were 12 mm for short distance and 13 for longer distances.
This year my average paces for short distances (3-4 miles) is 10mm range and my long runs are mid 11 to a 12. Looking back, I have made some changes in my running this season, positive changes! I started a boot camp class at my local Y about 5 months ago and love it. In that class I met some amazing girls that also run and have a faster pace than mine. They welcomed me to the group and although we run our own paces, there are days we stay together as a pack. Not only have they pushed my out side of my comfort zone but they are such an amazing change in positive energy!! A lot of you know that I haven't always had positive running partners, although faster... I never realized just HOW much that held me back.
The other change I made this year was giving up intervals.
I have been using the Galloway method of running for my half and full marathons for quite some time now and although it has helped me considerably, I think that passing on the consistent walk breaks has helped me too :)
When I ran the Melbourne Beaches half in February of this year I was toying with the idea of going back to straight distance but hadn't really trained for it. I decided that I would run the first few miles straight then go to my 2:1 intervals. Come mile 3 I still felt really good so I said I would start intervals at the bridges, then at mile 5, then 6, then 7 and I didn't actually take my first walk break until mile 10! I finished out the last 5k doing my intervals and ended up PRing that half by over 4 minutes! That made my mind up for me on making a change in my training this year.
Don't get me wrong by any means, I love the Galloway method and it does amazingly for so many runners. It was the ONLY way I was able to get through my first marathon and my first ultra!! I am not putting it down in the slightest, just trying something different :)

Another positive note...My nutrition has been pretty good and the scale is going down!! I am actually seeing consistant numbers under the 155 mark!! YAY!!!!

    Glad to hear that it's all coming together! I'm a combo runner... I plan walk breaks but, at the 10+ minute interval. The gals I'm training with are full runners, so I'm training for my first full as a full runner. I'm still taking walk breaks, but far fewer for my long runs than I ever did before. I'm looking at intervals as a way to finish a race, rather than a way to start.

    Yay! Yay! Yay! You sound so good and STRONG! Thanks for the personal insight on Galloway. I've been running for only 5 years myself and have been a "straight runner" up until now. Injury has made me reassess and restructure. I'm currently training Galloway style and it is helpful to my recovery, yet I'm finding it difficult. Good to hear both sides from someone who has been there. I really wanted to stay down for SpaceCoast also after Soldier, but just can't make it happen this year. Will you be at Soldier?

A year later.....

It has been a YEAR since my last blog and I suppose since I was last active on here really. I know, it's been too long and I have missed my sparkpeople!

Not much has changed in the last year. I am older, my kids are growing tall, still at the bank, still running...although I did take a pretty good break this last year. I was just too burned out on it all. The hubs is doing great with his shop, my horse and I FINALLY started competing in barrels, I am still struggling to lose the last 20lbs....funny story, when I logged on to update my page I didn't have to change my ticker. lol!!

So...up to speed since nothing has changed. lol. I am training for my next marathon, Space Coast. I just completed week 3 which was a fall back week for me. I ran 4 miles on Monday, 3 on Thursday, 6 on Saturday, then went to spin class on Wendesday and boot camp on Tuesday...and worked the horses a few days in there too but I don't really count that as *my* work even though I do plenty of work, lol! My long run this week is up to 11 miles!! YAY!

The boys went back to school this week! Super excited about that one!! Ty is in 8th grade, Austin is now in 6th and Riley is in 3rd! TWO in middle school!!! Ka-Ra-Zy!


I took my golden boy (sundancer) to the barrel races this weekend and we ran our first 16 second run!! I was so stoked! It is his 5th run and we have been consistant in the 17 second range which puts is in the money for 4D. This time we fell in the cracks for the money (too slow for 3D but too fast for 4D) but it shows improvement so I am so happy! Pretty soon we will be at the payout window for the 3D!! I can see it!



I have to say that one thing has changed in the last year...I am so happy with where my life is! I have my ups and downs like everybody else but I have the best friends and the most loving and supportive family..and that makes such an amazing difference!

My Staycation/deep clean (long and w/ pics)

Last week I was on vacation, well staycation as I didn't go anywhere. I planned on spending time with my boys, friends and deep cleaning my house. I got all that I needed to accomplished!!
My week went like this:

Saturday was my long run day of 11 miles. I got up at 5 and met my friend Kris at 5:30 to try and beat the heat. We got started a little later than planned and she was having a hard time coming back to distance so we ended up doing a slow 10 miles which I was fine with. After my run I showered and took my boys to a friends birthday party and relaxed!

Sunday my oldest son Tyler and my hubby packed up and left for Scout camp. Mike was just staying the night but Ty was staying the week. After they left I took Austin and Riley bowling. We had a blast! My step sister and step mother were there and I ended up bringing home one of my nephews.
This is Austin in action! LOL!

When we got home I cleaned out my whole garage!! My neighbor thought we were moving out. lol!

Monday I took the boys to the Y pool so we could play in the water and I could get some sun and some laps in! We got there at 9am and stayed until 1 which was plenty of time to get some sun and fun in!

After lunch at home I started touch up painting my kitchen, living room and baseboards and got most of that finished except the white ended up not being white but a light blue so I needed more paint.

Tuesday we got more paint! I got white to do the baseboards and trim and I also picked up more for the boys rooms as they needed to be completely redone. That's boys for ya! LOL! I also went through each of the boys rooms, closets and dressers to purge any clothing that didn't fit or was worn out. I have a lot of school shopping to do!! That afternoon we went to the barn to wash my horse. My mom rode out there with me. I just love the barn we are at now! The people are so nice! I usually stay out there and chat forever! LOL!
The boys were obviously tired from playing and bored of my chatting. (Yes, there really is that much hay in my trunk)


Wednesday was a fun day! First off, I slept in! Riley joined me for a snuggle.

After a bit I went to see a friends new baby. He is such a doll! He is about 3 weeks old and weighs less than 8 pounds! It has been so long since I held a little baby as mine is now 7. I got to feed him and then he took a nice long nap on my shoulder. Such a sweetie!!

After our visit there we met Jeanine and Nora at Chuck E Cheese and had a blast! She is such a doll and turned it into a celebration for Austin's 11th birthday complete with a cake!


We stayed for hours chatting, laughing and having a good ol time while the kids sucked up tokens and had a blast!! Jeanine is EPIC emoticon

Thursday also ended up being a rest day! I like the rest days! The boys and I met Suezette at Cocoa beach for lunch and some sun. Suezette and I relaxed in the sun while the boys had a great time playing in the surf and sand.



I'm not really sure but I don't think you can tan through sand. lol!

When we got home my hubby was packing to head back to scout camp for a few days. I just hate when he isn't home!! The boys and I went to dinner to keep my mind off of him not being there.

Friday we were supposed to go to the beach with my mom and sister but that fell through. It's probably a good thing considering I was getting crispy.
We ended up going to the mall with my mom instead. We had a good time hanging out. I don't really have the average mom/daughter relationship with my mom so any time like this is pretty cool.
After the mall we went to home depot where I bought some flowers and pavers for the yard. Mom wanted no part in work so I dropped her off and I headed home to finish cleaning my house, back porch, lay my pavers and plant my pretty flowers. The boys and I went back out to the barn to visit sunny boy

We stayed until almost dark chatting and having a good time! The boys were playing on the golf cart and I was hanging with the barn crew and my horse. The sunset over the barn was beautiful!

On the way home we stopped at a local mexican restaurant for dinner and listened to the mariachi band play before heading home. After watching TV for a bit we all turned in and much to my surprise Mike and Ty came home a night early!! They got home just before we fell asleep which woke everybody back up but it was awesome to have my guys home!!

Saturday was trim the horses feet day and then headed to a kids bday party at the beach which lasted all day!! We unpacked all of the camping gear and finished up around the house.

Sunday was long run day again (yes I did get my maintenance mileage in during the week). I met Kris at 5am for 12 miles. It went great until mile 10 when tummy troubles started in and then the sun had come out and was brutal! I was glad to be finished! I got home, showered and the blow up water slide had arrived!! By 9am kids were already coming by to start Austin's bday party!
The rest of the guests arrived at 2. We had such a great time!! We had 17 kids to help celebrate, pizza, cake and tons of fun!

With this many kids accidents are bound to happen and it did. One of the boys bounced right onto Riley's hand and fractured it. We hopefully get it casted tomorrow!! Despite that, we all had a fantastic time!

I had a great week off with my boys, friends and managed to get my house totally deep cleaned!! I am so excited! And exhausted!

    I was drooling when you talked about Sunny Boy and the beach! I LOVE Palominos anyway, but he is beautiful! Every minute of that week was full of fun, sweat, memories and joy. Anniversaries!!

I just realized this month is my Sparkversary and next month is my runniversary!!

I started this fabulous journey in 2008 and I can say that I have changed in so many ways! Of course the obvious, weight and shape wise. But I have also grown as a runner.

In July of 2008 I started Sparkpeople at 190lb and squished into a size 14. I didn't even realize I had gained so much weight. Yes, my 8's were too tight and I could hardly fit into the 14's but that wasn't what woke me up. It was when I was faced with having to buy 16's. I thought to my self, me? Obese? The girl who never had to worry about weight. The girl who was always so active? How did this happen?
Kids, laziness, and my Thyroid is what happened.

In August of 2008 I started the c25k program. I thought to my self, I was always so active and used to compete in the foot race at the mud runs and whoop everybody there! I can run! NO issue, right? Wrong! After 3 60 second intervals of a slow jog I was dying! I was not going to give up though. I registered for my first 5k in November and ran the whole thing without a single walk break! I was so excited that I cried!

4 years later I am still on the journey to my weight goal. It's a work in progress and one I will never give up on. My lowest weight was 148 and my current weight is 155. After that first 5k I fell in love. I kept running, increasing distance, bettering my pace, working on me, inside and out! In the last 4 years I have gotten frustrated, wanted to quit but I didn't. I won't. I am in this for the long haul, for the life style change!

It's been an amazing journey so far! I love the people I have met, the challenges I have overcome and the person I have become!

So much to do, not enough motivation to do it

Have you ever stepped back and looked at your life and what needs to be done and have an overwhelming sense of WTH!?!

That is where I am lol!

I am trying to get this weight off and was doing great on LiveFit but I lost motivation a few weeks ago when trying to add mileage for the Marine Corps marathon. My knee issue didn't help.
A major issue with my weight loss is getting my eating under control. I have wanted junk and I need to get past that!

I am off of work next week and was looking forward to spending time with my boys but I also need to go through my house and deep clean. Mike's allergies have been terrible lately and it's only when he gets home. I also need to go through the boys rooms to de-clutter and weed out clothes that don't fit so I know what to shop for this coming school year. With the deep clean, I need to touch up paint around the house since the boys are...well, boys, and destroy everything. lol
I also need to reorganize my garage.

I have so much to do that I don't know where to start! I can't figure out when to get my training runs in with my workouts. I feel so confused.

I am trying to get some done each night so that I don't spend my whole week off cleaning and painting. The two older boys decided to cut up my curtains in the kitchen yesterday so their punishment is to help me clean all week. I made a list of chores for them to do, like clean their rooms spotless, scrub their bathroom, wipe the cabinets in the kitchen and pick up their messes in the garage. I can't wait for school to go back! LOL!!!!

On another note, I ran the make it by midnight half marathon this past weekend. My hubby didn't want to go but changed his mind so I could go! The trip with my family was fun! We took the back roads up to GA and it was so pretty! Cool old houses, bridges and farm land. It made the trip up easier and added conversation! The time there was short. We got to Macon and visited every gun shop my DH could find before checking into the hotel and heading to the race site. I was so excited to see my friends (even if it ended up being a quick hug).
I used this as a training run so I didn't really care how slow it was. It was super hot and hilly. I ended up running with Wendy for both loops and we made a stop at the half way mark to change shoes and chat with Jeanine and CC for a bit.

I finished the race around 9:30ish and my hubby was bored to tears waiting for me and wanted to go. I was so bummed I missed my friends.
We had dinner (again) and went back to the room to watch TV and "try" to sleep. I think I am the only one who didn't sleep. We were up and on the road around 9am. We drove around and visited the Warner Robins Air Museum before making the journey back home. We got back around 10pm and I was exhausted!!
Monday made for a very sucky work day and NO workouts! lOL!

I missed my workout this morning but will try for a run this afternoon...and maybe the elliptical. I really need to find my motivation again!!

    Make lists and prioritize!!! But don't forget to have fun too while you are off. Make a list of things to do by a certain time then go relax and have fun with the boys. Have them involved so (1) you get help and (2) you get it done faster!!! You rock girl. When are you coming back to Oklahoma to run?

    I totally did NOT sleep well after the race either!! Between my legs being a little achy, & sleeping next to my daughter who was thrashing around all night, no ZZZZZs for me!

Too bad I didn't get to meet you!

I can so relate to the rut of just not being motivated & eating poorly due to crazy appetite from heavy training!!! I cannot tell you how many times I have been there too. For me, what helps me more than anything, is eating REALLY healthy (I know, boring, right?) - LOTS of veggies, good protein, fruit, very little grains & NO sugar. When I eat this way, my appetite is so much better. And my philosophy is to exercise no matter what, whether I feel like it or not, so "motivation" isn't part of the deal.... LOL

Don't know if this might help, but I am REALLY looking forward to meeting you at Space Coast!!

    Motivation is such an elusive thing. Mine comes and goes like it's my bi-polar sister. lol I don't have any advice, just wish you well. I would, however, like to hear the story of cutting up the kitchen curtains. I have a granddaughter who would easily do something like that. My husband calls her "The Master of Disaster!" Glad you made it to MIBM - bummer you didn't get to stay longer, but I get it. I think I could have written a carbon copy of your trip. From gun shop stops to "let's go already."

Hey! Maybe that's the answer to our racing woes. We go to races together and send our H's to the gun shops, then we can do all the "girlfriend dishing" we want. Just sayin....

    You will find your motivation. Glad you are making the boys clean - try writing down a list of things you want to accomplish - break them down into workable bite-sized jobs - then assign a priority to each job. Make sure you attach the highest priority first and if you need a smaller job to reduce stress that the highest priority on them also. If anyone can you it - you can. emoticon

    Sounds like a fun but packed weekend in GA! I like to leave Larry at home for races so I can spend as much time w/ my friends as possible. But I also don't travel to many races!

My suggestion for your time management is to get up, workout and then when you're already sweaty and pumped up, tackle the cleaning and painting. Personally, I can't even think straight before a workout! :D Good luck!

    I find that I give myself more time to exercise when I do have a clean house, and I know I sleep better for sure. Stressing about housework always makes me just want to sit on the couch and avoid it all! haha

I read a good quote the other day, "Cleaning a house with your kids in it, is like brushing your teeth while eating oreos!" emoticon
