Keeping up

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Hey all,

Well, the good news is I've been working out 5-6 times a week. The bad news is that I haven't really had my calorie intake in very good check, and last week we drank at least one every night. (I know, it's terrible...but there's this seasonal beer a local brewery puts out that only lasts a week or two, so we were determined to drink a good portion).

This week, I have been, if I do say so for myself, pretty darn good. My calorie burn from exercise since Monday is 1651. Add that to my BMR and you get 6367 total burned. If I keep it under 1400 today, that will be total of 4205 consumed for 3 days, or an average of 1401 daily...not bad. puts me at a deficit of 2162 across 3 days as well. As long as I can keep this up, I should see results by the end of this week!

Update: Ate 1457 today, burned 673 with biking. That adds 788 deficit for today. I had 74 calories more yesterday than I expected, so total deficit so far is 2876. Two more days of deficit maintenance and I should have a loss.

I have also made two sparkrecipes this week, both of which turned out well. The better than takeout chicken fried rice, and the white chicken chili were both hits in my house. Heating up leftovers of the chili now!

Count down to Italy!

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Hey all!

So this week is my PT test. For the last couple of weeks I've been taking it a bit easier on myself, did some strength training and running but for the most part just trying to keep it together without overtaxing myself so I can get through the PT test.

Beyond that, I have a goal of getting down to 160-ish before we go, in 9.5 weeks. So, that's about a pound a week, little more. Although, I am trying to shoot for a higher calorie burn, I would be happy with 1-1.5 lbs a week. So, knowing that one pound equals 3500 calories, I'm shooting for a deficit of 5250 a week, up to 7000. Go me!

BMR is 1572. So far this week I've eaten:
Monday: 1674
Tuesday: 1786
Wednesday: 1233
Thursday: 1841

and burned:
Monday: 415 + 1572 = 1987
Tuesday: 1572
Wednesday: 634 + 1572 = 2206
Thursday: 673 + 1572 = 2145

Which means so far my deficit this week is 1376 calories. Mostly from today, so I need to keep up an average of 1045 deficit daily to meet that goal for my first week. There's the plan!

*update yesterday I had a pretty rough period. I had to practically drag myself out to bike yesterday, and I was dizzy and weak feeling. I got a lot of sleep and feel loads better. I know I shouldn't have hit the margaritas but that was my motivation for biking hard so it was worth it. :)

Turning a corner

Monday, August 12, 2013

Hey all,

So, I see my last post was on week 7 of LiveFit. I just wrapped week 10, and I've decided that it's gotten far more intense than my body and soul can take. I My knees were giving me a lot of problems, and the diet, being designed for people on route to a competition, was so restrictive and was making me weak and ill. I decided that at this point I should take a step back from the restrictiveness and follow a more sensible plan for a bit. Falling back on my good old fashioned sparkpeople principles of getting in exercise and eating sensibly :).

I learned a lot on the program, and I don't mean to say it wasn't a good program. I just realized I was so unhappy with the pain and the restrictiveness that I wasn't even happy about doing it any more. I think it's important to ebb and flow with the intense programs and more healthful, happy programs. I will probably do something similar again in the future for a short-term 'cut' but for now I'll be happy having a little more freedom. I have a lot of good stuff I'm carrying with me, both clean eating principles and special recipes that I really enjoy. I just look forward to having a glass of wine now and again, too. :)

My most successful I have ever been at weight loss I was not counting calories or eating a restrictive diet. I went out and drank on the weekend. I got exercise but I was never in pain. I think I'll be ok. :)

Thanks! I was trying to prove something to myself, I think. I found that I didn't get as much satisfaction from following the plan as I get from having the freedom to have that occasional glass of wine :)

I agree that to just follow the SP plan will get 99% of us where we need or want to go. For those 1% that need to go on special plans to get that last ounce of fat or last ripped muscle, my hats off to them because it is extreme dedication to get there.

When I was first getting my excess weight off, I was quite meticulous and accurate. It bout drove me and my wife nuts. LOL I am still really watching what I eat and how much, but I am NOT using the scales as much as before.

So just stay focused but not obsessed and you'll do great. And a glass of wine now and then is fine too. Keep the Faith

Bodybuilding (week 6 photos)

Monday, July 15, 2013

Hey all,

So those of you who are used to me know I kind of come and go on here from time to time. I decided that the tourist route wasn't for me, and opted for a more aggressive tack on my fitness.

I started a program called LiveFit on body building dot com, and am currently in Week 7. What this means is that up until this point my focus has been on eating clean and building muscle. However, starting today, I am also monitoring calories because I will be beginning the 'Leaning' Phase in two weeks. My measurements have gone down a little, but my weight hasn't budged a lot; The goal was to keep my body from feeling like it had to conserve calories while I built muscle, and that has definitely worked. My strength has shot up and my arms and shoulders have rock solid muscle...underneath my continuous layer of flub. :)

However, now that we are checking our caloric intake I expect that flub to start dropping, so I figured what better place to track my calories than on my old friend, SP??

So here I am, I took these photos last week. :)

If you are in week 7 sounds like you are sticking with it. A little bit is better than none

Whirlwind!

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Hey all,

Well last week I visited 5 national parks in 5 days, and did a bunch of driving in between. My diet...wasn't the best, but my calorie burn WAS wicked. My weight went up a little but my measurements went down, so I'm gonna hold off and weigh in next Monday, hoping that some of it is bloat from all the sodium and traveling. :)

Meanwhile we are rapidly working out our moving plan, since we have to be out end of June and Alex may be gone. FOrtunately for us, the place we are moving is owned by a friend and currently empty anyway, (well it's furnished but no one is living there) so we can maybe move in a bit earlier.

Anyway, gotta get to work!
