A very strange combination

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

I did a very dumb thing this afternoon: I went to the market hungry... knowing that I was eating dinner alone, which means the menu is all mine. emoticon

I really enjoy the convenience of those little roasted chickens you can get at the deli, so I planned to get one of those and make 4, maybe 5, meals out of it while I'm home alone all weekend.

So I got the chicken, and then walked past the sushi counter on my way to produce, and then swung down the frozen foods isle, looking for blueberries, and over to diary for yogurt, milk and cottage cheese. All is right with the world right now.

I got home and put it all away around 5 o'clock, thinking I'd until my usual dinner time, 6:30 to eat.

Well, 10 minutes later I was back in the kitchen, hungrier than before, so I had a teaspoon of peanut butter, just to hold me over.
A1/2 hour later the chicken smelled good, so I ate one of the wings and a thigh, sharing just a little with my very patient and hopeful K9 companion. And the sushi was my favorite, crispy tuna...so I had 3 slices of that, knowing that it wouldn't be as good tomorrow as it was tonight. Did I mention the Summer Pasta salad that was strategically on display next to the roasted chickens? No? Oh,, we'll, ya, I got some of that too. A nice lite blend of bow ties, spinache, red onions and tomatoes....so I had a 1/2 cup of that to go with my chicken leg and sushi! then topped it all off with a glass of white wine, just for good measure!

So, I tallied it all up - chicken leg, tuna sushi, bow tie pasta salad, wine.... And came out within 1 gram of goal on my meal plan for today! One gram over on my fats (which I blame entirely on the reduced fat Jif!) I was also 21 grams short on carbs. It should be covered by the wine. Technically it is different in the purest nutritional sense...but the calories are the same...so I'll call it a wash.

The moral of this story is do not ever go shopping for food when you are hungry! It makes one do strange and unpredictable things! But in the end it was a very good dinner. I just hope I don't have indigestion late on.

emoticon gotta go, Big Bang Theory is starting!!

Not quite what you anticipated, but at least it all came out well.

I always try to avoid the stores when I'm hungry. Or, if I have to go when hungry, bring a list and force myself to stick to it. If I see something I want, that isn't on the list, I can always go again later or the next day.
Not that I'm perfect. Not by any means!
It sounds like a pretty good dinner, all things considered.

Finally!

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

I hit all of my nutritional goals on the same day! I only have macronutrient goals, because I'm not junk food eater, and don't use processed foods very often.

I hit Protein, fats, carbs, and calories - in range - today, with nothing left over and nothing over budget!

I'm going to have to say this is mostly the result of weighing and measuring all my foods for the 21-day healthy habit challenge!

This has been a GOOD DAY! emoticon

Well, didn't exactly take yesterday off. . .

Monday, April 23, 2012

I ended up moving the leaves and helping my son put the wood in the basement...and even went for a 4-mile hike (not a hard one or a fast one, just a rambler.)
And I am glad I did - because to quote my old friend Yukon Cornelius! "Ain't a fit day out for man nor beast."
Wind and rain and sleet like I have not seen in a very long time.
So today, I am definitely staying inside! All day. emoticon

I took a day off on Friday and couldn't sleep Friday night! Days off are over rated! Do you own any exercise DVD's? Those are my go-to's on bad weather days. Not that you don't need a day off, just an idea.....if you get bored!!

Taking a break today

Sunday, April 22, 2012

It is Sunday, it is raining, and it is COLD outside here today. I decided yesterday that today would be a "down day" for me - a day of rest, more or less.

So why am I sitting here wishing I was outside, doing something physical?

Lots of reasons:
Exercise has become a habit for me
I enjoy getting the SparkPoints for cardio
I want to participate in our Travel around the World Tour, adding to our mileage
I just plain like that hard work, tired out feeling I get from working out
My dog is looking at me like I've forgotten how much HE enjoys a good long walk or run
There is a stack of wood and three piles of leaves that aren't going to move themselves

But oh, it is so warm and comfortable in this cabin right now..... there's a fire in the wood stove, and I can smell coffee. Maybe I should spend some time on my other favorite activity. . . cooking.

Yup, I'm staying put, for the time being that is.
