Couch to 5k - Week 3. Day 2

Sunday, June 10, 2007

I had *nothing* planned yesterday, so I decided to run. I finished the second day of week 3 with no real problems, although the last 30 seconds of running were pushing it. I really should have given myself a one day break between day 1 and day 2, but it seemed such a shame to lose a free day like that.

Today is a rest day; I may take a 2 - 3 mile walk if it doesn't rain. But it looks like it's going to. I'll just enjoy being inside and do a little yoga to relax this evening. I can always run tomorrow. :)

Couch to 5k - Week 3, Day 1

Saturday, June 09, 2007

I've been on vacation for the last week, and while on vacation I managed to get in 2 runs. It was very strange, because I didn't have my usual nice flat trail to run on. Instead, I estimated a mile from my parents' house and used that for my 2 mile loop, but their road is very hilly. My body was a bit unhappy about it. However, they live on a dirt road, and I found my knees really liked running on the packed dirt instead of the blacktop of the bike trail I usually run on.

I followed the week 3 plan for those two runs, but didn't count it. Yesterday, I ran on my nice flat trail, and I'm counting that as day 1 of week 3. Now... if I can just recover my willpower about food...

Couch to 5k - Week 2, Day 3

Some men are assholes.

Let me back up. I'm having a bad day, couple of days. I'm allergic to St. Louis, so I feel terrible... and it was hard to concentrate at work. Fine, I made it through. I got home, I got suited up for my run. And I discovered that Grant's Trail is still closed! So, I had to run my old route in my neighborhood. This meant no sidewalks, exhaust fumes, and hills. My leg is still bothering me from Tuesday's run, too.

To top it all off, I had a guy cat call me like... a foot from my face. Did I mention the no sidewalks part? Because this pickup passed me really close to the precarious shoulder that I was running on, and the passenger leaned out the window to ogle me and tell me.

Argh... I suppose I should take the compliment that's in there, no matter how much it creeped me out and made me wish that I was carrying pepper spray. A waterbottle doesn't scare away creeps.

Couch to 5k - Week 2, Day 2

OW! My trail was closed (yet again) so I took my old route through the neighborhood (which is about 1.5 miles). There are little hills everywhere. I missed my nice flat trail so much! But, I got my run in and I stuck to the intervals. My thighs hurt today. Hopefully the trail will be open when I run tomorrow....

Couch to 5k - Week 1, Day 3 & Week 2, Day 1

Yesterday I did day 3 of my first week, and today I did day 1 of my second week. I spread my running out weird this week, I'm not happy with it. I really, really need to start getting up in the mornings and running, instead of doing them in the evenings. Weird stuff can come up and keep me out until sunset, and I'm still not comfortable being out in twilight. Plus the trail that I run on closes 30 minutes before sundown.

However, I'm happy with my progress with running. The W2D1 plan felt a little too easy, so I shortened the walking from 2 minutes to 90 seconds - so I was running 90 seconds and walking 90 seconds. I'm looking forward to getting into week 3 honestly, seeing if I can maintain the longer runs!
