Giving hugs

Wednesday, November 21, 2012

I didn't know that I would have to be giving hugs to my niece to help her through a hard time when her mom didn't understand her. She had been complaining of her knee hurting and was not giving any support in transferring her weight from the chair to the bed and vise versa. Since Michelle cannot explain well what is going on her mother did not really believe her that there was anything going on with the knee. I felt differently. I finally said to her, "Michelle, what's going on?"
Her eyes teared up and the she just began to cry her little heart out and and spread her arms out for a hug. I held her and consoled her for the longest time and told her that everything was going to be alright.
The second time was the very next day when we arrived from the airport with the wheelchair in not so good condition and that was the last straw for her and again she broke down and began to sob because they did not believe that all of what my sister was telling them that was wrong with the chair was due to the fault of the airlines.

I never said anything to my sister because I didn't want to cause hard fealings. I just let my niece say what she needed to say and to console her and comfort her as best as I could while my sister was packing things for us to leave in the morning.

emoticon Lucky you were near by.

I have been in the position of being a Mom who underestimated my daughter's pain.
so maybe be gentle with the Mom, too. Chris

Just returned home

Sunday, November 18, 2012

I just returned home from a fabulous vacation with my sister and niece. We went to Florida and spent five days at Disney World. Then we joined my dad and step mom on a cruise in tbe caribbean. We had a great time. I would put pictures on my page, but I haven,t figured out how to do that yet. We did a lot of shopping and really enjoyed ourselves. We wanted to see more of the islands, but there was not much in wheelchair accessibility for a five hundred pound wheelchair that is extra long. Some of the islanders thought that they could lift the wheelchair, but it was only when they tried they realized they couldn't. My niece is an incomplete quad on a vetalator due to a tumor on her spine that was discovered when she was five months old. She has had three major surgeries on her spine. She is fun to be with though. It is good to be back home and I am glad I don't have a ton of mail to go through like my sister does.

Passed inspection, barely/Cruising next week

Friday, October 26, 2012

I stayed up most of Wednesday night to clean my house for inspection. The big deal was having access to the outlets to make sure they were grounded. This was just started last year and I had forgotten that. I have so many things along the walls that I don't even think about it with the power supply's. I wasn't able to go to bed right away because then I had to go around and collect statements from various places for verification of expenses because my interview was that afternoon for renewal of the lease. That afternoon when I got home I was able to lay down for one hour and sleep before going to handbell practice. What a busy day! When I sat down after that I would shut my eyes and fall asleep. I even tried to read one email and fell asleep before my finger was off the key. I decided to go to bed. I slept 11 hours and still fell asleep when listening to scripture and my lesson. I guess I am not caught up yet on my sleep.
When I tried to get on the Internet again today it was down again and I had to reboot it. If this keeps happening all winter I may have to change carriers.
Exciting news next week I leave to go down to Florida with my niece and sister. My niece is very excited and can hardly wait. We will be going to Disney World for a few days and then we will join my parents on a cruise in the Carribian.

Puzzled Neighbor

Sunday, September 30, 2012

I had called my auto insurance to see if my rates could be lowered. They wanted the reading of my odometer. So I went out to the car with my phone. Since it is all electronic I had to turn the car on. I gave the reading to the insurance agent got out of the car and shut the door. It dawned on me the the CD player was still on and the door was locked. So I got on the ground and got my key from under the car unlocked the door and put the key back. I moved closer to the open door so I could use it to get up. But I wasn't able to get up. With a bad knee and in a weakened state I couldn't get up. Just then a neighbor in the apartments next to me was going by. I asked him if he could help me up. He gladly came over to help me. When I told him I had a bad knee then he wanted to know why I was on the ground in the first place. I told him that I locked my keys in the car. His expression became very puzzled and said, "You had to get on the ground to unlock your door". I only replied, " I have my ways". He was a little tipsy and went away shaking his head mumbling to himself . I chuckled all the way into the house. That made my day!
