I just received my copy of The Spark People Cookbook and browsed through it quickly ....I'll probably read it from cover to cover tonight after I'm through with work. It's absolutely fabulous! It's just one more indispensable aid that Spark People offers. I thank God for the day I found SP, because I have learned so, so much and have lost almost 50 pounds so far. I know I couldn't have done it without SP. Each day I read articles, browse recipes, take quizzes, track my nutrition and fitness--it's all just priceless help to me. Spark People, I love you to the moon and back!!

My backsliding has taken its toll...

I have no idea why, but I just totally lost all interest in my commitment to a healthy lifestyle in the last 6 months or so (I'd like to blame my work schedule, even though I know that's just an excuse)...and now it has taken its toll. I found out Friday that I am now officially a type 2 diabetic, and that makes me very unhappy. However, maybe there's a silver lining in this cloud, because hearing those words from my doctor was a true wake-up call. I am going to fight this and do my best to reverse it. Diabetes is one diagnosis I do NOT want on my record. So, I am happy to renew my connection with SP and all it has to offer me in living a healthier life! Diabetes, I am going to kick you out of my life!

Spring has truly arrived. I'm delighted to see the trees budding out, the yard greening up, and the hummingbirds arriving again! So why am I hiding in the house, being so sedentary? I had to really think about that this morning. I last logged in to SP in October of 2011!! NOT GOOD!!! Today I am recommitting....no excuses about work, no excuses about being tired, NO EXCUSES, PERIOD!!!! There is no feeling like the feeling you have after physical activity....and there's lots to be done now! SO--today's the day... a new start for me! My daughter will graduate from college this coming December, and I want to be in a lot better physical shape by then! I'm going to enjoy this beautiful world starting today! LIFE IS GOOD!!!!

I didn't realize it had been almost a year since I last posted a blog (and exercised at the gym, for that matter). I've also been making not-so-great food choices and my health is reflecting that. So.....I think today's a great day to recommit to my Spark People way of life! It's a beautiful day!!!

What a difference exercise makes!!!

I grew up on a farm, so physical activity was no stranger to me, but still I was not overly interested in sports or any other kind of exercise. The years went by and I found myself in my 50s,about 100 pounds overweight and really not motivated about life in general. I discovered Spark People in March of 2010 and started making some small, but significant, changes in my lifestyle. I managed to lose 30 pounds but still was not giving forth 100% effort...and physical activity was the factor severely lacking!! I had every excuse in the book, believe me! I had been telling myself I was going to join a gym for months, but finally last Saturday I actually joined. What a difference a week makes! I actually missed 2 days this week, one due to a meeting that lasted way too long and another because I was ill, but those 5 days of exercising have made me feel like a whole new person...I am literally on a high I cannot describe! I feel ALIVE again!!! HOORAY!!!!

  Know what you mean, exercise is essential even if you don't need to lose, I'm stressing less, sleeping better & my depression is gone! emoticon
