So last year definitely didn't turn out like I thought it would, but I am going to make changes for this year. My daughter loves to remind me to exercise so that will help me. I am watching my calories closely and hoping that that will make a difference. I am super busy with going back to school but with planning I can make it. Here is to a great 2014!

starting again

In June we moved from our own place across the state and in with my in-laws. This is problematic because they really don't eat healthy or follow portion control. So since then I have become lazy and overeaten a lot and gained back some of the weight I lost. It has been very frustrating because I feel like when I try to institute healthy eating habits they smile to my face but resent me behind my back. They buy the food but most of it is high in calories or fat. I tried to make a healthy meal earlier this week and instead of just heating up the green beans my father in law turned them into a green bean casserole, complete with mushroom soup & fried onions.
Add to all that my going back to school and feeling like I hardly have time to think and it can be a toxic combination. I have started bringing healthy lunches to school and got a pass to the school gym so hopefully I can combat some of the negative influences with positive ones.

  Good for you for recognizing the unhealthy eating habits... I think that is the first step and I commend you for trying to change them. Maybe you can separate some of the food from theirs and make your own healthy food, or buy your own food? If you don't make a big deal about it or try to find healthy recipes that are also delicious to share, maybe they will change their mind eventually. Good luck!

Challenging myself to loose weight

So I have been horrible about working out for a few months now and my waistline is expanding again. I want to change this so I am getting back into being more accountable (recording my food eaten on sparkpeople) and I joined a couple of weight loss challenges. A television program does a 10 pound weight loss challenge in January, and Gold's Gym has their 12 week challenge. Right now I am not doing so well on the 10 pound challenge...I gained weight the first week emoticon but I am going to change that fast. The 12 week challenge started yesterday and I am going to win this. I was a finalist last year, this year I am going to be a winner! I have started out well by recording my food today, and really watching my calories, I also received my protein bars so I can snack smarter than I have been.
I find it really hard to push myself to go to the gym by myself but luckily my husband's work schedule has started to slow down again so we should be able to go together again. I can't wait to work out with him, even if it is just an hour of cardio it is getting myself moving and doing something.

To get back on track

Fall was a really hard time for me. I started working two jobs, helping my husband through Graduate school and raising my family left hardly any time for working out. My time at the gym lagged to almost none, and my eating habits began to deteriorate. I tried hard to keep eating healthy but was finding it hard when I had so little time to prepare food. As I watched the numbers on the scale creep up, and my energy levels fall I knew I had to do something different but was struggling to find the motivation to get back on track.
I want to compete in a triathlon in the middle of April, and knew that if I wanted a better time this year than last year I would have to train more. I looked up an intermediate training plan since this will be my 5th triathlon, and found an 18 week training plan. I find that I exercise better when I have a goal in mind. While I am still struggling to get to the gym, I have a plan. I made menus for everyone, and I am trying to get food pre-chopped so it is easier to put in lunch sacks in the morning. I have enlisted my kids, and brother and sister in my plans with babysitting help, and exercise partners.
I know I can loose the weight I have gained back, and get into better shape. With proper planning, effort and encouragement I can do anything!

After completing my triathlon in July I decided to take a small break from the crazy workout routine. The problem is I haven't been able to get back on track. I have tried to adjust my eating habits back to what they need to be since I am not exercising as much, but am really struggling with it. I can feel myself slipping back into some of those old bad habits.
I am also not exercising as much, which is partly not my fault as the swim team takes 2 weeks off and the gym is closed for it's annual cleaning. Now they have the swim team schedule for winter out and it looks like I will have a hard time attending at the time scheduled, but I love swimming and know that it is great exercise for my body. So I have to decide if I can add one more thing to my already full morning routine.
I am hoping I can find the right balance of food and exercise again so I can loose the last 20 pounds I want to loose.

    You are doing awesome. I bet before you know it you will be back into your good eating habits and exercise routine. I am sure you have had the same issues as I with school starting and being busier than in the summer. That big of a change messes things up and is out of our control. I find that if I don't have a race scheduled that people seem to fall back into old habits. I find excuses for pushing back workouts more than if I had a race scheduled. I like to sign up for a race and that way I can't push the date back for my goal. Before I went back to really running and signing up for races I would set a goal date and find an excuse to not do what I needed to do. Then half way to the date I would push it back and say I would commit again but would do the cycle over again. This April I stared with a goal for October and found little races in the middle to keep my motivated and training. Now I am 3 weeks away and realized I have no goal after this one for my races/training. So I am off to find another one. Good luck and I think you are doing better than you realize!

    Good luck and I know you will get there. Just keep "sparking" and try not to define today based on yesterday. It doesn't matter what you did then, how fast you did it, how often you did it or the like. Rather, it is about today. Today is the day that you live in and only it matters for your "routine."
