My life is about to change in a huge way!

Thursday, November 07, 2013

My husband has worked nights for the last 9 years! He is finally moving to days next week. This is so huge for me and my family. My oldest child is 12 and my youngest child is 8. My three kids (and I) have only seen their dad on Saturday's and Sunday's most or all of their life. I'm not complaining because I know many families struggle with being a single parent or two parents working different shifts an/or more than one job. Not many families have a normal life or what I would call normal. But for me, I am celebrating and rejoicing that my husband will be able to be with us every night and be a part of our lives on a daily basis.

And a personal bonus...the scale said 145 today which is where I want to be with my weight. I am also looking forward to a family trip to Lancaster, PA over Thanksgiving Recess. This year we are going to see The Miracle of Christmas at Sight & Sound Theater. I have three weeks to lose a couple more pounds so I can enjoy the Amish food that I will be devouring while we are there and not feel guilty. Also enjoying the indoor pool at the hotel we are staying to keep my exercise in check.

Checking in!

Monday, October 28, 2013

Itís been a long time since I have written a blog. I thought today was a good day to check-in!

I have had a great time being back on my healthy program and have had great success! I have been up and down the scale so many times over this 6 year+ journey that my head spins just thinking about it. Iím sure I have said this before but this time feels different, very different! I have hit my maintenance weight range goal again and am really motivated to stay here. Even with all the temptations of the holidayís coming up, I feel stronger than ever and have really learned some life lessons and feel more confident that I will not allow myself to over indulge but rather enjoy each temptation as a choice. The Lord is my strength and I will lean on him to help me crave the healthy choice in all things!

I appreciate the support of all my SparkFriends! I know I hide in the shadows a lot but really enjoy and value this community of friends and resources. I would be miserable without it!!!

Old Pictures Bring Inspiration & Motivation

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Inspiration and motivation came to me yesterday when a package of old pictures was delivered to me by my husbandís Aunt. Among all the cute pictures of my kids from a few years past were also pictures of me, the obese 229 lb. me.

I was always the one with the camera so I was able to avoid pictures of myself. Well, these were not taken by my camera; they were taken by other people. Needless to say, I was quite surprised to see my old self, with all the extra weight I was carrying. I had to stop and stare with tons of emotions running through my mind. My face was so chubby, my eyes were so puffy, my body was so large.

My kids looked at the pictures, my husband looked at the pictures, and none of them made any comments. I looked at the pictures and said, ďWow, look how big I was.Ē My husband quietly said "yeah." They probably werenít looking at what I was looking at or maybe they didnít want to hurt me. I just kept looking at them over and over thinking that Iím so glad I donít look like that anymore.

Seeing those pictures was good motivation for me to stay committed to staying healthy and to be conscious of what I do every day. I do not want to go back to those old days. I need to remember all the little rewards I have earned like being able to tie my shoes, buying my clothes in a normal store, along with having low cholesterol, not being a diabetic or having heart disease like my parents do.

It is nice to be reminded every now and then of why I try to stay healthy. My husbandís Aunt will never know what her little package of old pictures means to me. I might have to make copies and put them in place that I will see them like in the pantry where I keep the cookies!

I agree, it's nice to have those old pictures as a motivation. If I look at my 10-year ago, I would say, I look nicely slimmer but not looking too healthy as compare to now where I'm several kgs heavier but inside, I feel happier and healthier with my body as I know more than my 10-year younger on getting healthy lifestyle!

I love looking at old photos of myself for inspiration to stay on track. Sometimes it's hard to see all the progress we've made at any given moment, but having that visual really helps! Glad you were able to get a little package of motivation :D

Old pictures are REALLY great motivators! Sometimes there were days when I thought I was looking skinny when I definitely wasn't at all. It's eye opening and really puts the fire under my butt.

You rock!

Fun Times Ahead for Me!

Friday, November 16, 2012

I have maintained now for 6 weeks and am feeling really proud of that! I still exercise 5 days a week for half-hour and continue to eat right.

I am currently 5 lbs below my goal weight because next Friday my husband and I are surprising our children to a 3 day trip to Lancaster, PA. I know the food is really rich so I planned ahead of time so I wouldn't have to loose much when I get back home to my regular routine. I am so looking forward to our mini vacation! The kids have never been so we have a show planned at Sight & Sound Theater, an Amish Buggy Ride and farm tour, a stop at the National Christmas Museum, the Choo Choo Barn Christmas Display, and what ever else we can fit in. We are staying at a hotel with an indoor pool and fitness room so if we can work it in, we will do a little fun working out!

Today is our Thanksgiving Luncheon at school where I work. All the kids and staff dress up as either a Pilgrim or Native American. Two of my kids are Indians, and one of my sons and I are Pilgrims. If I get a picture of us together, I will post it later. It should be a fun day! I love this time of the year.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Maintaining for two weeks and counting...

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

I have maintained for two weeks so far and am feeling good that I CAN do it. I have never been able to do this until now. I wake up every day happy with where I am at in life right now.

I looked at the 11 low-cal Halloween Treat slide-show that was featured today. I read through some of the comments. Please do not take offense, but some wrote that they wouldn't be able to stop at the serving size so they wouldn't eat any. That use to be me. I would say I couldn't do it either. I have now realized I was just setting myself up for failure by saying that. It only made me want that treat more than ever and I wouldn't stop because I already told myself I couldn't. Today, I look at a treat and tell myself I can have a serving (if I choose) and have the control to stop after that serving, unless I choose to have more.

I am finally in control of my eating and pray that I will never go back to where I started my journey at 229 lbs. Everyday is an adventure!

You are so right about being able to control yourself around temptations, it really takes the mindset that you CAN do it, and then doing it. I find I'm more successful when I either only purchase the portion I want (like with ice cream, don't buy the entire half gallon, go out for a cone) or with the hallowween candy, just take the one out of the dish (or bag) and leave the rest. It can be done, it does take some thinking and self-control.
