Chris Powell's Choose to Lose update

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

I saw Chris Powell on Doctor Oz and thought I would buy his book, CHOOSE TO LOSE for my kindle. Just trying to do what he said, on Dr. Oz not knowing what was in his book. I managed to lose 4.6 lbs the first week. While reading the book I again did what I learned by watching the show, and my second week I lost 5 lbs more. For a total of 9.6 lbs.

I only exercised 2 times about 15 min each time. I know I have to up that and I will.

I have now read the book and see the mistakes I have made. I am surprised I lost the first two weeks.

I have the grocery list printed, and I am going shopping tomorrow. Hoping to do the plan correctly this week.
Blessings to all!!

I saw him on Dr. Oz also.. Have also watched his Extreme Weight Loss programs and have been impressed by what he does.

His plan does make sense - have taken notes from the show as to what he advises to do but haven't implanted it yet but the calorie cycling seems to make sense.

Keep us posted on how it goes for your

Good luck on your quest. I have not read that book. Maybe I will look for it and get it to read.

Me

Friday, September 09, 2011

Hi my name is Sheila. I have been married to a wonderful man for 26 years. We have two wonderful kids. Sarah 21 and John 19.
I have steadily gained weight once I had my kids. Then finally came to a plateau 320 lb. Stayed there for several years. I was happy healthy and then my family moved from CT to SC and I thought I had injured my elbow in the move. I went to the doctor and he said, I was in 3rd stage hyper tension. Put me on Benicar HCT and then he said, he wanted me to do a 3 hr glucose test. It came back a little high and me being naive about diabetes...didn't know to ask to be put on a diet. So he put me on Avandia and I have taken those two meds for 7.5 years. WE moved to Germany last year and my new doctor is very upset that my doctor in the states had me on Avandia...not only does it cause heart problems in some people....but he said, it also causes WEIGHT GAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which makes perfect since, because once we moved to SC I started steadily gaining weight again. I went on and off diets again....WW, TOPS (take off pounds sensibly), low carb and I was not as successful with them as I was in the past. I would loose like 10 lbs and put it right back on and more....it was so hard to lose the weight. My heaviest weight was 409 lbs.
Not understanding the whole time that it could be the medicine. Trusting my doctor that he knew best. He came highly recommended by all the people in my church. He made me feel like he had my best interest at heart.
The new doctor in Germany took me off Benicar and I realized that it was causing my back pain....which I was told it was my weight. I have been switched to a new very low dose of diabetic medicine and I go next week to see what the results are. If the blood work comes back good. Then he is taking me off the diabetes meds and retesting me to see if I am really a diabetic. SO BEWARE of your doctor....I trusted and loved mine and now I am questioning everything he did.
My son was also diagnosed in SC with having a thyroid condition.....the German thyroid specialist did tests and ultrasounds on him and found nothing wrong. I also found out my thyroid is bad and I am on meds for that. I have lost very easily I might add....23 lbs and I am not really dieting per say. I am watching what I eat, but not measuring or counting anything at the moment. I am waiting on my body to regulate with all the new meds. Once the weight loss stops...then I will start back on WW and measure everything and count the points. This is my second week of staying the same...so I will be starting back after my blood work next week. So that is where I am at in my journey.

A little high on a glucose tolerance test probably shouldn't rate drugs. Glad you found a doctor who doesn't just prescribe whatever.

I see you're on the low carb forum. Are you eating low carb? It does great things for controlling blood sugar.

No Surgery after all

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Ok, Insurance rep called yesterday. Bad news...the doctor doesn't want to do the gastric bypass on me, just the sleeve. I don't have the money to have the sleeve.
I am not upset...I am kind of relieved in a way. I was starting to get very nervous about what if something did go wrong and died during surgery. So when this news came I was ok with it.

So I am back to doing it the old fashion way....so far I have lost 9 pounds just doing the diet they gave me to do before the surgery. It is a High protein, low carb diet.
I am surprised at how satisfied that I am doing the diet. So far it is working...so I am going to try and stick to it as long as I can.

My goal not to quit...and if I hit a plateau change it up a bit and try something new. Usually when i hit a plateau and it lasts for more than a couple of weeks I fall of the wagon....so the goal is to keep going. Strive harder and lean on family, friends and prayer.

Today was a good day.

the news of cancelled surgery is never great but I also am glad that you are relieved.
Sometimes these things happen for a reason - and perhaps you will be much more successful doing it without the surgery. Best wishes

    Hi Sheila,

I read this blog after posting a response to your post on your weight loss story. Now that I read this blog I'm really glad to see that you were relieved after the news. As I said before I believe everything happens for a reason. A friend of mine told me about so many people that had really bad problems after this surgery, tummy tacks and other cosmetic surgeries that I would never do it. Add a lot of vegetables and fruits to your dish and slowly but surely you are going to lose the weight. It helps if you do weight training because muscle makes you burn more calories than fat. That did it for me before but unfortunately I put it all back after a few years because I started to eat junk again and stopped exercising.

Disappointing day

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Well I was informed today that my insurance will NOT cover the gastric sleeve surgery.
On the up side they WILL however approve the gastric bypass surgery...I don't get it.
Anyway, I have cried today, because I had my heart set on the gastric sleeve. My surgeon even said that the gastric sleeve would be the best one for me....and they still did not approve it. It just goes to show you not all insurance companies are for your best interest.
So now I am trying to get use to the idea of having the gastric bypass. I still want to do this....it was just a shock to me...after the insurance consultant had assured me they would approve it....well in a since they did...just not the surgery of choice. LOL

Now I am faced with another dilemma....when I started this process, there was only one surgeon to choose from and they were 2 hrs (one way) away from where I live. Now I am told there is a surgeon in a town I live next to. Now I can get a "second opinion" from this surgeon, but the out come will always be the same surgery.....and this could delay my surgery if I change now....so I have a big decision to make. Keep the surgery day of Jan 14th and drive 2 hrs one way to get there every time I have an appointment or get the second opinion and reschedule for the one closer to me here.
I will see how I am feeling in the morning about the whole process.
Till next time.

Wishing you all the best of luck, I considered surgery for a while but changed when I saw someone who had such bad complications and she was telling me she would do anything to get her 300lb body back than what she was going through after surgery. I am losing slowly but that will have to do.

Dec 14, 2010

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Hello everyone,

I have exactly 1 month before my gastric sleeve surgery. I am excited that I am having the surgery. Something I have thought about ever since these types of surgeries started. I finally got up enough nerve to inquire about them and now I am waiting for my insurance to approve it. The insurance adviser didn't seem like they wouldn't approve it. ....she keeps saying they are going to approve it, don't worry. So if all goes through then on Jan. 14th I will be having my surgery. I am so excited!!!! but nervous, because I have never had surgery before...not sure what to expect and all. So keep me in your prayers.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas.

I start 14 days prior to surgery a low carb, low fat...high protein diet. This is to shrink my liver and of course to loose any weight before surgery.
Hope to keep you all posted as time approaches.
