Mean Green Juice

Wednesday, September 05, 2012

Howdy!

Back on the wagon. I never really did get off but there have been weeks where I wasn't paying much attention to what I should have. August was extremely tough because there were so many birthdays, dinners, cake and ice cream. I just wasn't strong enough to say 'NO'. My weight went from 207 to 210 and I'm frustrated as all get out. I have to find some way to stop putting food in my mouth after the sun sets.

I'm up at all hours of the night and that is my weakest time. I have always been a 'night owl' and that also turned out to be one of the reasons that I always worked the graveyard shift. One problem with that was that my meals were also turned around. They always came in the night hours and then I would hardly eat all day long when the sun was up.

I haven't worked in 8 years but the old habits are dying hard. I get so angry with myself because most days I do workout at the gym but then comes the night and I eat all the way through it.

My daughter and I are even thinking about walking one of the trails near us now that the weather is cooler. We thought we would do that on days that we don't go to the gym. We did it once last week - 2 miles out and 2 miles back = 2 hours. It was pleasant but a little too hot and humid.

Has anyone heard about Joe Cross and his juice diet. It's not what I want to call a diet but I like to use his terminology - his reboot program. You can learn more about it, if you're interested, here ...

http://www.jointhereboot.com/

He drinks what he calls 'mean green juice'. It's 5-6 vegetables that he juices and drinks about 4 times a day.

I started, yesterday, drinking it last night. I used my blender since I don't have a juicer. You're supposed to strain out all the pulp and drink whats left. The way I see it is we are counting the calories from the vegetables anyway so why not drink the pulp, too. I have to tell you --- I drank one (16oz) glass while the sun was still up yesterday and it is now 4 a.m. and I'm still not hungry. WOW! I don't plan on not eating regularly but I do plan on drinking the 'Mean Green' any time I'm hungry after dark. I doubled the recipe so I have 3 tall 20-oz glasses chilling in the fridge and I will drink them when I'm hungry and it's not mealtime. Doesn't it look appetizing?

Well, maybe not .... but it works.

I'll have to let you know if it continues to work throughout the week.

'Green' Blessings to all. LOL

Loved Joe's video, "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead"! He has a great story! I try to drink green juices several times a week and try to do a juice fast once a week. I can relate, I'm a night owl too and worked night shift for most of my life. I didn't realize how bad I felt until I quit working nights. It's still hard to get to bed early but I'm working on it! WTG on adding green juices to your diet! emoticon

I watched the video on net flix. It was really good.
I am going to check out the you tube ,too.
We drink smoothies (I always add spinach)every morning. If I ever finally decide to stay at home more (Quit my job) i"d love to do a juice feast.
Looks good to me. And they usually all taste yummy.

First Month Back - 10 lbs Down

Saturday, March 03, 2012

Well, I did it. March 1st marked my first month back at the gym and I have met my one-month goal. emoticon It wasn't easy. There were many slides off the wagon but the next day I climbed right back up on it. The soup was instrumental in my endeavor. Every day's mainstay was my soup and gigantic vegetable salads with balsamic vinaigrette but it was all so good. My kids think that in a previous life I was probably a rabbit. That makes me laugh. emoticon

So, for the record (Bob Harper - are you watching) I started back a month ago and I weighed in at 222. On March 1 I weighed in again and I weigh 212 ---- I was ecstatic. I felt like Sylvester Stallone at the top of the stairs in Philly (Rocky). emoticon

I celebrated with a big bag of tomato and basil potato chips, jalapeno dip, a shamrock shake from McDonalds and at the end of the day a Coors Light beer. I know --- I know .... that is not the way to do it. BUT that is the way that I DO IT. That gives me the ooomph I need to do it again for the month of March.

Here's a picture to mark the loss

I'm Back ..... AGAIN

Monday, February 06, 2012

February 6, 2012
Monday
.
I'm back! I'm like that scene in 'The Shining' where Jack Nicholson is breaking down the bathroom door. I don't mean to be so inconsistent but I get beat down easily. If the weight isn't going off I get dejected and I just don't want to talk about it. Last year was so demoralizing because I just couldn't stop the night-time eating. Even with walking 2-4 miles a day ..... as soon as it got dark I was into eating-mode. I realize now that was why I was a chain-smoker --- my need to always have something in my mouth.
.
I am still not smoking and in my absence I have gone up to 222.4 lbs .... that is my all-time high. I'm really scared because all of these diets just don't work for me. Everyone can say what they want to say about one thing or another but you're not living in my body when the snack-attack hits and I can't seem to stop myself. I have even woke up in the night to find food on my pillow and in my mouth that I have no recollection of getting up to get.
.
It would be nice to do my walking and track my food intake just like all the experts say. It doesn't work for me. The more I watch my food intake and count my calories the more I want to eat. Every minute of my day is thinking about food. It's driving my crazy. There have been more than a couple of times when I have thought about going back to smoking. I think that at least then my weight didn't go up like a hot-air balloon. In hindsight, knowing what I know now, I'm not sure I would have quit smoking. Yes, I am glad that I did and No, I won't go back now. This battle with weight is just the hardest thing that I have ever encountered.
.
So, I am back --- to try again. This week we went back to working out at the gym AGAIN. This time I am starting it off with Zero-Point soup (please, I don't want to hear it) AGAIN.

Dancing in the Moonlight on my 3rd year SparkVersary

Friday, April 08, 2011

emoticon HaHaHa.... it's 2:35 a.m. and my kids just left for work.

I just happened to sign in to SparkPPL to spin today's wheel and I was reading an intro from one of my teams. In it she mentioned checking out the videos on Demand on TV. That sure got my interest. I never even heard of it. Did I feel silly checking out the On Demand section and there was the Health and Fitness section with 50 plus videos - no matter what level you're at there's a video for you. I have had this for nearly 2 years and never checked out the Free on Demand function. emoticon

I'm always looking for some interesting exercises to do ... some dancing exercises like Richard Simmons Dancing to the Oldies. I have all of those videos from the 80's but they're VHS tapes and my player no longer works. My kids bought a DVD player but I haven't had the opportunity to buy the exercise DVD's. Up until this year I really wasn't interested in doing them anyway. Nothing worse than trying to exercise and having the family watch.

As I mentioned they have exercise videos free on Demand ... they have a long list of them. I saw this one called 'Dance your Ass Off' and just finished it. I have always loved dancing but haven't done much in the last 30 years. Doing this reminded me just how much fun it is. No kids watching and I could just let myself go. I didn't even think about all the fat jiggling.... it was just fun. And it sure is a real workout - it reminds me of that one video 'Sweating to the Oldies' because I broke a sweat and I'm still sweating.

Gosh, you don't have to go to a gym or even outside on a track to get a good workout. You can just stay at home and workout to these videos. No matter what your hours are, whether you're a night person or a day person, you can always turn on your TV and find a program to work with.

My favorites are going to be the dancing ones. It doesn't feel like exercise. I feels more like a emoticon. It's fun. It's joyful.

Rock On emoticon

* * * * * * * * * * * *

It is now 10:46 a.m. and now that I'm back awake I know why I was dancing in the moonlight early this morning. That was so much fun and I felt so free.

Today is my and I am going to be dancing all year. Oh, happy day .... Oh, happy day.-- you all know the song. I'm singing it all day.

Love you guys .............Keep on Sparkin'
