Walking those Hills

I keep forgetting to take my camera along to take pics of the hills I am walking by my house! I want to show everyone how steep they really are!

I woke up at 8 this morning, then decided to go back to bed until 9, which turned into 9:45. I got up and threw myself together to meet my Grandmother at 11. She met me at the mall. As a reward for hitting my goal weight, she bought me a new summer outfit. We actually had a very nice time. We went to Applebees for lunch. I chose their "Pick Two" lunch combo. I chose the Classic Turkey Sandwich and the Seasonal Spinach Berry Salad. It was a little more food than I was used to eating, and it was way high in calories from what I am used to eating. If I eat everything on Schedule tonight, I will have consumed over 1600 calories for the day! I can't remember when the last time I ate that much was! I usually don't eat over 1400. I am usually at 1300 or lower!! I realize I don't eat like that often, but still! That was a bit excessive! I keep telling myself that I am preparing for Saturday!

After I got home from shopping with her (I will post pics later - maybe tomorrow of my new outfit) I decided to lace up and hit those hills again. I still get a little burn in the legs, but not much. It took me a few extra mins today because there were baby geese in the pond. I had to stop and ohh and ahhh over them for a few on the way out and the way back. Honestly, how can you not? They are so darned cute!

According to Fitbit, my walk was the equivalent to walking 60 flights of stairs. According to Fitbit's site -

"Fitbit trackers that count floors use an altimeter to calculate how many floors you've climbed.

These trackers treat each floor to be around 10 feet, which is an average between residential and commercial floor heights.

If you climb a long staircase, you may find that the tracker's floor count doesn't match how many floors you've gone up because the floors in the building are taller than 10 feet. For example, if you climb 4 floors that are 13 feet tall (for a total gain of 52 feet), your tracker might tell you that you've gone 5 floors because it assumes that each floor is about 10 feet."

So... 60 flights would be 600 feet. I think that might be a good climb?

I love baby geese. They have the cutest beaks and beady baby eyes that try to look over them. They are seriously cute.

Since my current pair of sneakers are worn out and on the verge of destruction this weekend, I bought a new pair -

I liked the colors --

I am pretty sure my Grandmother had a couch just like this dress in 1975 - I don't know why, but I fell in love with it... and as an added bonus, it was only $11 on clearance!

This one reminded me of the types of dresses I used to wear in the 90's - the babydoll Courtney Love kinda thing - on clearance for $4

and who doesn't want a green t-shirt with wiener dogs? On sale for $5

I also bought 2 other t shirts like the wiener dog shirt, but one is plain black and the other is plain white. They were on sale for $5 a piece, and you can never have to many plain t-shirts in basic colors. They go with everything.

    Great new shoes and clothes. I'm not yet at my final weight, so I have a $5-10 per item rule (except shoes!). Your buys would meet this criteria - I love clearance!!

    Love it! Love the shoes and the t shirts. I would wear the sofa dress too.
By the way-
I dreamt about you last night. In my dream you came to Africa for a festival and we had to share a room at a guest house. My kids drove you nuts. (Sharing with my kids would drive anyone nuts, even me) I was ticked because the bathroom was down the hall. It was more about the fight I had with the inn keeper about that!
My dreams are weird but I have learnt that they don't mean a thing except random thoughts from the day strung up the wrong way!

    I am going to check out your recipe, or maybe only later, unless I whizz it up.
I whizzed up a nectarine and some yogurt for lunch today. What is wrong with me! (I don't like mixing milky things with sour things) But that is what my body craved. Must be seriously tired of Beef&veg/Chic&veg soup or shake.
I am glad you enjoyed your walk. And that you did not run into any irate trigger happy turkey hunters.
(By the way, your kitties looked so happy on the couch, with a Courtney sized space between them for you)

Getting the "Jitters"

Less than 5 days until Mud on the Mountain! I am getting the jitters! I am so nervous, excited, anxious and about 1,000 other emotions I don't have any way to describe!

My hip has been bothering me again... ugh. I went to the Chiro today and he popped it back in, but it still hurts. After Mud, I am going to have to take a week or two off. I don't really want to do that, but I will if I have to. I don't want to risk further injury and be laid up for even longer. I will just have to pay VERY careful attention to my nutrition. No extra snacks, low carbs, very limited grains, no BLTs... the reason I am able to do that is because I workout a lot. I will have to drop my calorie count down... I can handle it. LOL

I was thinking maybe light walking would be ok... but I would feel so stupid being at the gym and walking at 2.5 mph on the treadmill when I am used to a lot of different. I am not sure which I will do, but I will need to take a little time off. I am just afraid that a little time off will turn into a lot of time off... but if I don't get this hip taken care of it could turn into a lot of time off regardless.

I bought a few great dresses on clearance at Kohls - the one reminds me of my Grandmother's couch circa 1975 - it is great! I will post pictures later.

    You will have a blast at the Mud, but yes do take care of your hip.

    You will do great on your Mud on the Mountain!!! You are definitely ready for it and yes, your body probably could use a break, a little change in your routine once you complete your race! Maybe try something that's less pressure on your hip, like exercise in the water or maybe yoga... that way you are still burning calories but not putting as much pressure on your hip??

Anyway - Have FUN with your race!!!

    (Way back when I still ran 10kms I developed plantar faschiitis (That spelling can't be right, but anyway) because of a tight ITB I now stretch that sucker as much as I can. Tight ITB can also seriously hurt hips. Have you been to phisio? Has he given you stretches and exercises to do?

OHHH!! How exciting is Mud! If you could tell Courtney of before GBS what you would be up to now, she would be blown away.

    I know what you mean...I have had a bum foot for a while now. I'm waiting for my doctor appointment, but until then, I haven't been working out like I am accustomed to. It really bothers me, and I have to keep telling myself that I don't want to risk further injury.

Spinach Ham and Cheese Quiche (recipe and photo)

1 9 in frozen pie shell
1/2 tbs olive oil
1 clove garlic minced
1/2 bunch of spinach
1/2 cup of diced ham
1/2 cup of shredded swiss cheese
4 eggs
3/4 cup skim milk
1/4 cup fat free half and half

pre heat oven to 375
place pie shell on the middle rack and bake appx 8 mins until lightly toasted

while crust bakes, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, add garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, and add spinach. cook appx 5 mins until spinach is fully wilted.

In a bowl mix eggs, milk and half and half then add ham, cheese. Squeeze spinach to get out excess water and add

Pour egg mixture into the pie crust and bake for appx 12 mins until done

Serving Size: makes 8 servings
