Goal Weight, Maintenance and Being Scared to Death

Only about 5 pounds to go until I hit my goal weight of 140 pounds. I would like to get a few pounds below that once I hit it in order to give myself a little wiggle room so I can play around with maintenance.

I am getting worried, and I am getting scared. I don't think I will ever be able to go back to a "normal" diet. I will always have to eat around 1,000 calories for the rest of my life in order to maintain my weight. Prior to surgery, I gained weight eating 1200-1500 a day, so I am guessing those ranges will be too high for me.

I will always have to eat a lower carb diet, and limit grains, even whole ones since my body isn't really a huge fan. Currently, I eat 1-2 servings a day depending.

I keep having nightmares that I wake up at 260 pounds.

I did the smart thing and send an email to my RD, told her my fears and asked if I should set up an appointment.

I worked on my legs at the gym today. I am doing a 14 min mile now and am quite happy with that. My hip was bothering me again, so I only went for 14 mins instead of 20.

    I am no where near my goal but I also feel that my body gains when I eat more than 1000-1100 cal per day and also don't get along with carbs.... is that even enough, like realistically!?

    I would definitely talk to your RD about it. Having a plan for maintenance is a great idea. Getting below your goal weight will help with that. You can have 5-10 pounds of wiggle room so that you can try your maintenance plan and adjust as needed without worrying about gaining too much.

I think your maintenance calories will just depend on how much you currently lose each week. You might be able to up your calories with a few extra hundred a day if you plan to keep your same exercise regimen. But all that depends on your own personal needs, your metabolism, etc.

You have accomplished so much and you are doing a great job. You have the tools and experience with losing weight. You are not going to return to 260 pounds or that person you once were because you are different on the inside as well as the outside emoticon

    I can totally relate!!

Way in my past, I got down to my goal weight and realized it when I actually weighed what my driver's license said. It took me out of the present moments I'd been living in and I suddenly saw the BIG PICTURE of my journey. For some reason, I totally freaked out and felt like I was 'DONE' and fell off my program. Of course I gained all my weight back plus more.

I still tend to do this when I think about how much progress I've made overall. emoticon

I'm making a conscious effort to only focus on each day, sometimes each hour and even each 5 minutes. I keep remembering what others say a lot: "Just keep doing my program today and it will work."

I totally identify with your fears, I have the same ones. I also have a feeling I'll have to stay at around 1000 calories for the rest of my life and limit my carbs.

But fear isn't necessarily a bad thing. It keeps us grounded and in check. You will continue to do well, I know it. We will all have moments of weakness and slip, but they will just be moments.

Continue doing what you are doing and know that there are many of us on this journey with you. Thanks for forging the way!

    You've done such a great job and I know that you will continue to do so. Gosh, your pre-surgery weight gain issues sounds like me before my endocrine problems were diagnosed. I was looking into surgery, too. I just gained and gained even when I ate 1200 a day.

    You are doing great! It's hard work to get to the place where you're at, and you should celebrate your accomplishments!

In my TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) group, when someone reaches their goal weight (thus becoming a KOPS Keep off weight sensibly) they have a 10 pound range that they have to stay within. They can be 7 pounds under, or 3 pounds lighter. So, if your goal weight is 140, you can weigh as much as 143, or as little as 133.

Just an idea.

    I don't think you need to wake up weighing 260 pounds... I'm thinking that maintenance is probably something you need to learn to do and find your way with. Just like you needed to learn how to lose. Not that I would know, of course. But I'd say do just try to enjoy your accomplishmet and take as good care of yourself as you can. Don't be scared.

    It is a new place and it is only natural to be scared, but you can do it, just remember where you came from, and do what must be done to keep yourself healthy.

    It's true that for the most part, whatever you did to lose weight is what you'll have to do to maintain it. Good reason not to do outlandish things to get there. That's why maintenance can seem so hard. Too many of us expect things to be over. But we've also got to feel we get enough food to eat.

Really Amazon?

I ordered a t-shirt from Amazon.

It was advertised at a Junior's shirt, so I ordered an XXL. Normally, I buy an XL in Junior's, but since an XXL was available, I decided to get it so I would have a little extra room in it.

It arrived in the mail today, and imagine my surprise when I opened it and it was a 2XL in adults. I am totally bummed!! I REALLY wanted the shirt!!

When I get a refund, I am going to re-order the shirt and make sure it is a Junior's size. The only problem is I can't find that color. Oh well...

Amazon has agreed to refund all of my money, I just have to send the shirt back. I will have to do that on Thursday.

Still enjoying doing nothing. It is super cold out, and I don't have to go out, so I am staying in.

Tomorrow... the gym!

    I'm sorry that is so annoying! I got the light gray one and I wanted the adult 2xl because I was back around 250 and it was too big for me even then... and now I'm swimming in it. :( I was thinking of trying to shrink it, but I also don't want to ruin it. Maybe I'll just use it as pj's LOL. *DOH* I have a knock knock knock penny one with the same issue now. When you do get the juniors one, can you let me know how it fits? Maybe when I drop some more weight I will try to go that route. :D

Why is whole wheat so gross?

I hate whole wheat. I don't know why, but whole wheat bread makes me gag. I bought some white whole wheat wraps today from La tortilla Factory, and they are nasty too. Hopefully if I add enough yellow mustard it will disguise their flavor.

I guess whole wheat isn't so horrible if it is slathered with peanut butter?

I met with my trainer today and we had a great session. The first half we did weights, and the second half we did a boot camp style workout. I wish my hip would stop hurting!!

Not much else going on. I am enjoying my time at home on vacation.

    I for one do not eat flour products at all. I stay away from any thing white or wheat. No sugar, no starch and no gluten. Seems to be good for the weight loss.
Try rice crackers they really make some good ones, flavored etc...

    Sorry you struggle with whole wheat. I've not had that problem. Maybe just keep experimenting with different brands.

I didn't realize your hip was still bothering you. Have you considered going to the doc?

    Uhhh am sorry, I've come to find that I like whole wheat pasta and tortilla's. You might want to experiment with different brands, when it comes to the whole wheat thing. Enjoy your hols.

Sunday is a Lazy day

I have every other Sunday off, and I have declared it "lazy Sunday".


I watch TV and sit on the couch and pretty much do nothing. Well, I do something because I am incapable of doing nothing. I usually do laundry and some cleaning.

Last night, my boyfriend and I went to dinner and the movies. We went to Chili's to eat. I am surprised at how "bad" their food actually is. They do have lighter options on their menu ( I chose the Margarita Chicken) but you have to chose VERY carefully! We did the 2/$20 which includes an appetizer. I didn't eat any, but he got the 1/2 order of Texas Cheese Fries. I looked up the nutritional info just because... 1240 calories just for a 1/2 order! He ate them all. Oddly, the thing I was tempted by the most wasn't the fries, cheese or bacon. It was the slices of jalapeņo peppers. My meal, had I ate the entire thing would have been 650 calories. I ate a little under 1/2 of the dinner and will be eating the other half tonight for dinner. My boyfriend got the Bacon Ranch Chicken Quesadilla which was 1450. I shudder to think! Post op, between his appetizer and meal he consumed more calories than I do in 3 days!


We went to see Zero Dark Thirty... I wasn't that impressed. It was long, and for the most part boring. I think it is a good story, but I think it would have worked better as a documentary.

I have the week off work and am looking forward to going to the gym and doing a whole lot of nothing

    We ate out most of the weekend & I hated it. So frustrating trying to find what I want and looking at the menu & thinking I could have done so much more with those ingredients at home. Glad you chose wisely and I can certainly identify with watching your BF eat those huge calorie laden meals. It makes my tummy hurt to just watch my sons eat sometimes. I've never been a huge Chili's fan. It's probably been at least 10 years since I've eaten there.

    I love days where I can just lay around and do nothing. I am in school right now though, so I usually end up feeling guilty for not doing things I should have been doing. My boyfriend and I went to Chili's once a while back, before I started eating better. He had some kind of burger with bacon on it, and a few months later I saw it on one of those "Worst Restaurant Meals" list. You have to be so careful when eating out...calories and portion sizes are out of control!
