The Cabbage Soup Diet

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Remember that crazy diet from way back when?

Who out there didn't try it at some point in our lives? I watched my Mother and Grandmothers both do it time and time again. Needless to say, it never worked. The only good thing that came from it was... THE SOUP! I love the stuff.

I decided that since I have been eating Campbells like it is going out of style, I would make my own. I made my own variation of it over the years, and am pretty sure I almost have the perfect recipe

I am going with my Dad tomorrow - We are going to see The Hobbit and then out to dinner. I am not sure where we are going, but I am hoping TGI Fridays - yumm.. I love their Chicken! I usually get the Dragonfire Chicken. It comes with rice, but I usually tell them no rice. Sometimes, they will let me get an extra side of broccoli, sometimes they won't. I guess it depends on who the server is.

I have to go to the doctors tomorrow too. She just wants to check in with me, make sure I am being healthy and not wasting away to nothing. After that... I am hitting the gym providing she doesn't take too long.

all in all it will be a good day!

That recipe looks YUMMY! And easy. Win-win! Thanks for sharing, and enjoy your movie night with your dad. :) I saw the Hobbit and really enjoyed it - and this is coming from a Tolkien superfan.

Ironically, if I've had an overeating bout, I then get in the mood for a nice vegetable soup much like that cabbage soup. If I have it with some bread or other starch and perhaps a few dried beans or dairy, my appetite gets back to normal. But day after day? No need any more.

There's no end to diet craziness. Just read/listened to the latest installment of Abel James' "Big Fat Mistakes" e-course. He's got the Fat Burning Man blog, which I find very interesting.

I used to do the Cabbage soup diet. I always lost 7-10 pounds and always had it back withen 2 weeks ;-)
I do however still make my own version of the soup sometimes because it is nice to have a hot bowl of veggie goodness with very few calories when I just want SOMETHING but really have hit my nutritionl "max" for the day.

I didn't do the cabbage soup diet but I WAS crazy enough to, with my mom, do the 'bread diet' (one day of 'normal' eating followed by one day of nothing but dry whole wheat bread)! Rolling eyes...

I make a soup I found out about on SP. I think it's called Poor Man's Soup. I may have tweaked it a bit to make it my own, but it is awesome. I don't add meat but navy or cannelini beans if I can find them. I use dry beans, in a can in a pinch but they are not as good. Enjoy your cabbage soup.

I hope to get to the 1 digit pant sizes!

That had to feel great especially from a store like American Eagle- their sizes tend to run smaller, so you have made a lot of progress!
Thanks for sharing the pictures!

My hip malfunction and goal weight

Monday, January 07, 2013

I was working with my trainer today and we were doing some great things. First we did assisted pull ups, and a few other weight machines, but then, she got out the tire! I love using the tire. So the workout circuit was...

Flip the tire the length of the gym (appx 15 flips)
Run a lap
Hold a plank for 30 seconds
Run up and down the stairs twice
Run a lap

I made it through the first circuit and at the very end my hip just... gave out? I am pretty sure it popped out of place. I had the feeling like when you roll an ankle, only it was my hip. I got a sharp pain down my leg, and after I finished the lap, I went down to my knees. It took a few mins for me to be able to put weight back on it. Then after that we decided to keep doing the same circuit, but we toned it down a little bit since we didn't think risking an injury would be a good idea.

That, and my chest and breathing... not sure what was going on there, but it felt like it was on fire. It was almost painful to breathe. I think the more I work at it the better I will be. I am still really out of shape, but almost in the best shape of my life... pretty sad, but pretty awesome at the same time!

I weighed in at 149.0 pounds yesterday! That means I am only 9 pounds away from my goal weight. After I reach goal, I would like to get 5 pounds below it to play around with maintenance since I am not sure where I am going to need to be calorie wise.

I think that is all for now!

ewww... Sauerkraut!!

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

I have hated sauerkraut my entire life. I have always thought it was nasty...

While I was in the shower on New Year's Eve, I all of a sudden developed a craving for it.

Sauerkraut is one of my new favorite foods. I am now in love with it. I now know what I was missing all of those years. That stuff is amazing and soo low in calories! Yumm!!

Support group was good tonight. We had a local Yoga teacher come in and talk to our group and also go over some great relaxation and stretching exercises with us. I have been thinking about taking Yoga, but I am still not sure. The only time I am able to in on Monday (at my gym and the wellness center) but I also have Personal Training on Monday. I am not sure if I can do both. I will have to consult with Olivia, my trainer.

I went to the gym today before group. I am pretty proud of myself. I accomplished 2 things.

1. After my warm up on the ARC Trainer, I went over to the free weights section where all of the boys were lifting, and joined right in. I claimed a bench and some dumbbells and did my thing. I did several arm exercises, and was overall pleased with my workout.

2. After my ST, I went to the treadmill and did intervals. The biggest thrill is I was able to run, as in maintain a speed of 5/mph, for 0.25 miles. Yes! I ran for 1/4 of a mile without stopping!!! I don't think I have been able to run that far since I was 12!

All in all... it was an awesome day!!

The unpasteurized raw sauerkraut is really good for you if you don't heat it enough to kill the good guys. Great probiotics in those lacto-fermented veggies!

I have been addicted to sauerkraut all my life! On Reubens, on hotdogs, hamburgs, with kielbasa, or even just plain out of the package/jar! Is very nice with sesame seeds on it, too. It's one of those foods I will miss for a bit. Really miss. But, it's worth it!

So proud of you for getting in all that ST, and OMG! You ran! Do you know, I don't think I've actually RAN since I had to chase my kids around. Something else to look forward to. Used to love to play softball, and volleyball, and other things. Looking forward to doing that again!
