The Christmas Tree Debate

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

I am still debating on what to do about a tree. I have until Friday to decide. I am not sure what to do. I didn't have one last year because of the cats, and I am not sure how they would be this year around one. If I do decide to put one up,I will have to buy all new decorations. Most of my ornaments are Hallmark collectibles from my childhood, and I would be very upset if something happened to them. I think I may buy a few of those $10 kits at Walmart IF I put one up.

I only have until Friday to decide because that is the only time our schedules will allow us to go get a tree. We don't go to a lot or even put up an artificial... we do it the old fashioned way. We go to JB Tree Farm and walk all through the fields looking for the perfect tree. Once we find it, we cut it down and drag it back to the station where they shake it out and wrap it up.

The more I think about it, the more of a pain I realize it is.

I've had luck with the following with cats & Christmas trees:

1) Spray the lower branches with Bitter Apple or some citrusy type of spray. The scent/taste is usually enough to keep them away, or at least keep them from chewing on the tree.

2) I will use hair elastics instead of hooks. I get the cheap ornaments from Wal-mart, a whole lot of black hair elastics, and use those to hang the ornaments. Not only can you wrap them around a branch and make the ornament more secure, the black is usually almost invisible against the branches.

3) If they want to climb it, try some clear fishing line tied to the top of the tree and hooked to the wall or ceiling to keep them from knocking it over.

I do put a few breakable ornaments on there, but they are always close to the top of the tree and super secured with ties. The rest are usually plastic or cloth. The tree still always looks pretty, but it brings me peace of mind.

Good luck with your tree!

emoticon Kitties & emoticon they just love them...so try not to hang any low wheree they can swat their paws at. I love my Christmas Tree, to me it symbolizes the birth of Christ. And with my boys all grown up and far away from home all the more to put it up now...to light their way home. Especially the older one, he's my Christmas Eve baby and he will be turning 33 this Christmas Eve. I love my pets too...we have stockings for each one, they get their treats and a special can of kitty food, like fancy feast and the 3 dogs get a smoked beef bone. And what is so funny is watching the cats trying to steal the dog bones...Lol what ever you decide have a Merry Christmas!!

I put up my tree not knowing that cats love Christmas trees. My cat loves it so much, he keeps eating it. It is artificial. I am about ready to take it down. emoticon emoticon

Reading your last line, may I suggest perhaps something different this year?

Give yourself a break and get a nice tree from one of the local tree lots. Some are run by charities/churches/non profits so you'd also be helping the less fortunate at the same time.

Have a relaxed and festive time setting up the tree and decorating it. Then enjoy the sights and smells of a Christmas tree with less of the hard work and hassle of the 'old' way.

Relieve the schedule pressure, eliminate tasks that are now more hassle than fun and enjoy the holidays with your loved ones and allow your loved ones to enjoy a less stressed-out you!

Happy Day!
Patty

PS: I wrote this for MY benefit as well. It's something I work on EVERY HOLIDAY! emoticon

I haven't put up a Christmas tree at home in years. We don't have kids. We never have company. It's just not worth the effort to me.

I have to put up a tree at the office, and it's never good enough for the boss. He always wants more: more decorations, more lights, more garland, more something!

do what YOU want to do. If you really want a tree, make the cats behave! (I'm not a cat person...is that even possible?)

I put up my Christmas tree last month, as that's the only time I had to do it. It brightens up my apartment, and I don't regret putting it up early.

When my daughter lived at home, she always had a cat. One of my fondest memories of having a cat around the holidays was when her cat decided to play with the lower branches of a live tree. He bounced the branches and, of course, bounced some balls off. However, when he rolled over on his back and wrapped his lips around a light bulb, his mouth lit up! He didn't chew on the bulb, just played with it and lit up! In our family, we still talk about the cat who lit up!
We have been married 40 years and have always had a tree for Christmas-- mostly live. Hope you decide whatever you think you will enjoy for the holiday season!
Merry Christmas! emoticon

We have a small, artificial tree on a stand. My cat is usually interested the th presents and doesn't bother the tree much.

I put up my tree with my 2 kittens, I have a very very sturdy tree stand.

My son decided to put all of his stuffed animals on it instead of ornaments, the cats stay out of it.

I would say put up the tree for 1-2 days BEFORE putting on ornamnets, when the cats go near, use either the spray bottle, or shake the jar with pennies in it, and then they will stay away.

I think if you want a tree, you should be able to enjoy it. Everytime I look at mine, it gives me a warm feeling and makes me smile!

Ravenous

Monday, November 26, 2012

I set my alarm for 9pm when I really was supposed to set it for 9am. I woke up at 10:15. I have to leave my house by 10:15 because I have an appointment with my trainer at 11:00. I like to get to the gym 15-20 mins before our session so I can change my shoes and warm up.

Needless to say, I threw on my clothes and left the house without eating breakfast. That was a very bad move.

First, it was hard getting through my workout. I had zero energy about half way through. When it came to the last 15mins when we do intervals I REALLY had to push.

Second, it set me up for a bad day. I came home and had
1 egg
1 egg white
1oz of ham
1 slice of light swiss
it was a very good breakfast, but a few hours later I was hungry again. I ate a Balance Bar, and ended up throwing up. My pouch doesn't like chocolate. My RD recomended them as a quick meal incase I find myself out and about and on the run. I ate the peanut butter ones before with no issues, but then I bought the S'mores kind and they made me puke.

Eating breakfast is important!!

I think that is all for now

I agree that breakfast is soooooo important for me to get my day to a positive start! After going all nite, my tummy is a bit nauseated in the a.m. It needs a slow wake up with hot tea followed by a good breakfast else I'm in TROUBLE emoticon

I've had times like you did when I've had to hit the floor running. I've learned to stock my fridge with 'grab & go' items such as RTD protein drinks and cheese sticks. My morning tummy is ok with this. emoticon

Happy Day!

Maybe next time just grab a piece of fruit and a handful of nuts to take along...?!
I've done that; sat there in the locker room of the gym enjoying an apple - defying the stares! lol

100 pounds down - Official!

Sunday, November 25, 2012

I weighed in today at 159.8 pounds. I have lost "over" 100 pounds now! I am so excited!!

I have lost a lot of inches too! In the past month, I have lost

1.5 inches from my waist
2 inches from my hips
1/2 inch from my bust
2 inches from my arm
1 inch from my thigh
1 inch from my neck

Again, I am pretty proud of myself on that. The Workouts I have been doing with my trainer (and on my own designed by my trainer) have really been paying off.

I plan on losing at least 20 more pounds. I think 140 is very realistic and maintainable.

I wish I had some other news to share, but not much else is going on.

I had a great holiday with my family. Lots of yummy food, but I didn't over eat.

I think that is all for now

Some TMI things about losing almost 100 pounds

Monday, November 12, 2012

You know, no one really talks about it, but there are some awesome TMI things about losing almost 100 pounds!

Shaving -- I can shave much easier now. Do you have any idea how hard it is to shave your lady bits when you can't see them? Pretty hard! Not to mention how much you miss when you do it? Now that I don't have my huge stomach in the way, it is much easier to get a smooth finish with less cuts!!

Wiping - yeah, no one talks about this either. Once you drop a bunch of weight, it is a lot easier to wipe your tookiss. True Story!

Sexy times -- they always say losing weight improves your sex life. I agree/disagree on that. However, now that my huge stomach isn't in the way, I can actually "see" what is going on. That is pretty hot. Now, I don't know if it has really "improved" my sex life of not. I mean, I was always in the mood before I lost all of the weight. Now I am finding, that since I have lost weight, I have more energy. Since I have more energy, I am doing more things like bike riding and going to the gym. Since I am doing those things, when night time comes around and it is time for things to go down, I find myself asleep before the first move can be made!! However, there is the part now where I do feel sexier.

Underware - no one told me how small my underware were going to look. I now have to buy those bras that add two cup sizes and push them into my throat because they have shrunk so much! I went from busting out of a DD to barely filling a C! that is my only real complaint about losing the weight. I did like my boobies.

Painting my toes... yeah I can do that now without putting them on the coffee table.

I think that is all for now
