Lazy Person's lunch (photo)

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

I didn't really feel like cooking today and making an elaborate lunch. So, using my handy-dandy Laptop Lunch kit, I was able to construct a cute, healthy lunch with minimal effort.

Healthy Choice Lunch Steamers Honey Balsamic Chicken
Cottage cheese - Jello desert
Carrots w/ greek ranch dip

Viola! I won't be able to eat all of this at one sitting, and I already have some tuna at work in the fridge to add for another meal. I eat 2 meals + a snack at work. For my snack I usually have some pretzels and a string cheese.

I really don't like to eat frozen dinners out of their container. It doesn't seem like real food if I do that. I always transfer it to something else to make it seem more like a meal. I spoke with my RD about eating frozen dinners, and she said that while I shouldn't eat them every day, there is no reason why I can't have them here and there. We talked about convenience factors, and she agreed that as long as I am not eating them for every meal, they are fine. I really like Healthy Choice and Lean Cuisine. Smart Ones are ok, but not as good. Plus, I also usually get 2 meals out of one regular sized dinner.

When it comes down to it, anyone that has followed my blogs, knows I like to cook my own food 90% of the time. Sometimes, I just don't feel like it....

I think that is all for now!

I find my Mom eats more of her meals on wheels when I plate them (and season some of the more bland dishes). Some how it does seem more a meal that way.

I like to make my own frozen dinners. That way I can avoid the massive amounts of sodium and chemicals in pre-packaged meals. They are convenient when I have to travel.

I use frozen foods on occasion, including foods I cooked and froze myself. To me the key is having plenty of veggies, which I usually have to provide. They are the balance to the denser foods, which are everywhere. You can go a long way on moderate portions of convenience foods, if you are under time constraints, until you are ready for more participation. Very smart way to supplement your cooking!

50 Pounds Down... clown!

Monday, June 25, 2012

When I stepped on the scale this morning, I have officially lost 50 pounds (well, a little over that). I am so happy! I am now only 8 pounds away from my first goal of 200 pounds.

I was so happy. In fact, I can't stop smiling. I never, ever thought I would lose this much weight! WLS was the best thing I have ever done for my health.

I decided today to wrap my change in preparation for my first goal reward. I have decided to purchase a FitBit. They are $99, and in change I had $85, so that is awesome.

Tonight at work was TJ's birthday. They had Pizza Hut Pizza and Breadsticks (my fave - well, the breadsticks, not the pizza) Milkshakes and Cheesecake. I am the one that purchased the cheesecake. I didn't eat anything. I brought my own lunch. I can honestly say, I didn't miss it. I didn't even care about the food. I wasn't tempted even for just a bite of cheesecake.

I think that is all for now!

Good for you!! What a awesome motivator for me today. Thank you and kudos for turning down cheesecake. I found that I need to cut my fat intake ( after tracking my daily food ) Cheesecake would have definitely been a fat problem for me and my sweet tooth. But you did ... emoticon

Junk Food Night and Work Drama (photo & recipe)

Sunday, June 24, 2012

I decided since I was home alone on a Sunday night, I would have a Junk Food Night. On the menu... Chicken Pizza and Stawberry Banana Soft Serve

Chicken Pizza
1 boneless chicken breast pounded out thin
1 oz of part skim mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons of pizza sauce
* any additional toppings you want*

- Cook chicken breast in skillet until done, allow to cool as this will be your crust.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Add sauce and topping to chicken and bake at 350 until cheese is melted.

Strawberry Banana Soft Serve
1 medium banana frozen
2 small strawberries
- blend together until smooth using a food processor. Transfer to a dish and freeze for several hours.

So, I am so sick of work drama. I wish everyone could get along and quit backstabbing each other. That would make me a very happy girl.

I think that is all for now

That sounds great. I hate drama, it can ruin a good day or an entire work setting/environment.

FitBit vs BodyBugg vs Body Media

Friday, June 22, 2012

I have decided when I reach my first "goal" of 200 pounds (which is in about 10 pounds) I am going to buy myself a FitBit, BodyBugg or Body Media. I am not sure which one I want. I spent the better part of last evening doing research on all devices. The conclusion I came to from reading articles and reviews is that each device has a lot of things going for it.

I am leaning towards the FitBit because you don't have to pay to use the website. I really want the most accurate device tho.

If anyone reading this has any of the devices, please share your thoughts with me!!!

Bodybugg is the best of the 3 if your goal is accuracy. Both BodyBugg and BodyMedia are the exact same technology with a different web interface and pricepoint (BBug is much cheaper, generally speaking, for exact same product). Big difference there is that BodyBugg's web interface allows you to put in every ingredient in a recipe and accurately add in exact nutrition for anything you make, if you cook, and add in whatever the nutrition label says for any premade food, while with Bodymedia you have to stick to whatever foods are in their database. HUGE detractor, there, for accuracy of calories-in. The fitbit is cute and fun but does not even attempt to tell you how many calories you burned; just gives you "points" for your activity, and fun motivation to keep you going. Also, there are those of us who are never, ever going to lose weight if we don't track your calories-in -- so fitbit is really a waste of time except being fun to monitor your activity, which both the BodyBugg and the BodyMedia do with much more accuracy, due to their heat sensor technology to track your calories, not just giving you "points" for activity. That said, different products for different people, right? If you don't really need exact calorie counts for how much you are moving and you don't want a subscription, fit bit plus one of the free food trackers (my fitness pal is the best of those out there) is a good combo. For sticklers to accuracy in calories in/calories out, however, Bodybugg is the winner!

I love my Bodymedia Fit. I just saw on their website that they have them on sale for $99 with a free 12 month subscription. It's a great deal. I only had a 3 month free subscription with mine, but it's only $6.95/mo, and it's definitely worth it.
Congrats on your success so far!! emoticon
