It was like lightning.... everybody was frightening...

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

I woke up today to a thunderstorm. My house was shaking. What a way to wake up. It scared Leroy cat, and he wouldn't leave my side. Lucy was just watching the rain come down in sheets.

I didn't really do a heck of a lot before work. I did all of my cooking yesterday, so that was out of the way. I got the laundry done and the dishes.

I am trying to hold out as long as I can between meals and snacks. I am going to admit I am hungry, but am hoping that my body will adjust in the next few days.

I think that is all for now

The Count Down Begins...

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

In 2 weeks, I will be having my surgery. I started my pre-op diet today, and it was...

I went to see The Hunger Games with my friend Katie. After, we went out to Eat N Park, and met a few more friends there. I drank my shakes and ate my fruit, and I will be honest when I tell yoU I was hungry.

At the theater, I got a cup of coffee. I usually don't buy drinks or snacks at the theater, but I did this time around because I was hungry. Drinking a hot beverage usually helps me feel less hungry. I also sliced up an apple and hid it in my purse. It left me feeling not so hungry, but I still could hear a faint rumbling in my stomach.

When we reached the restaurant, I got a hot tea and a diet pepsi. My friends ordered food. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but that might also be because I have a cold and can't smell or taste anything. I was hungry, but I just focused on the conversation with my friends. I sucked down 4 cups of tea and a glass of diet pepsi.

After a trip to Walmart, where I managed to buy nothing I really needed, I came home. I had a salad for dinner, and let me tell you... it was the best salad I have ever eaten. Since I used some nasal spray, I got my sense of taste back. My salad..

4 cups of romaine lettuce with shredded carrots and onions mixed in
3oz of tuna
1/2 cup of sliced strawberries
2 tablespoons of fat free balsamic dressing
6 saltine crackers crushed up on the salad.

Now, the instructions for the diet say that the salad I eat is not allowed to contain eggs, croutons or cheese. It can only be fresh veggies. However, there is nothing saying I can't mix all of my food together? The crackers actually work on a salad, and it was quite fantastic.

Tomorrow, I made a chicken salad like my tuna one I had tonight, only with chicken. For Thursday and Friday I am having Cajun Salmon and veggies.

I am hoping that a few days into this I will stop feeling so hungry. I guess the ends in this case are really worth it. It is just one more step towards my good health.

I think that is all for now

ps: The Hunger Games was an AWESOME movie. While it wasn't the same as the book, it was still excellent.

Learning to Read Lables

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

I know how to read nutrition labels. In fact, I am some what of an armature professional. The biggest issue I have is reading the label for the product I am buying.

I bought skin on salmon. Hopefully, it will be easy to remove. It isn't like I bought a small bag if it either. I bought a rather large one. So, I guess I am just going to have to remove the skin and deal with it. i am hoping it is not that difficult to remove.

I am starting the liver shrink diet today. So far, I haven't had my shake. I guess I better get a move on. It is almost noon.

I think that is all for now

Needing to do the math for a non-2000 calorie diet can be annoying when figuring out nutrition information. Portion size is the key, plus entering the information into the food tracker takes a lot of the guess work out for each of our unique dietary needs.

I always cook fish with the skin still on if it has it, way easier to remove afterwards.

    Love your kittikins!

You're right, reading nutritional labels is an art to which we should all aspire. I can't believe just how many carbs are in things! And the way they hide things from common understanding is really angering. It just isn't right. We have a right to know what we're putting in our bodies.

So far as the salmon ... well, I don't know! I don't eat salmon, but I do remember my dad, who was an avid fisherman, cleaning fish on the dock. He always cut the fish up the middle (I'm thinking your salmon is already prepared that far), and then laid the halves out with the skin side down. You put the blade of a filet knife parallel to and as tight as you can get to the skin, and then pull it through (Fish toward you, against the knife which is faced away from you). Once you get a little piece of the skin separated, you can use that to pull the whole piece forward against the knife. Keep in mind, this was a child's eye view! but I do recall it pretty vividly, as he did this every weekend, to my recollection.

Or, who knows, maybe you can cook it skin-on and it will peel off politely afterwards!

In reference to the prior appreciation of kitties ... If the skin is well-cooked and not full of scales, kitties would dearly love little bits of skin. Good for them.

Pictures of Leroy and Lucy

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

The first two pictures are Lucy and the others are of Leroy. Notice Leroy's tail in the pic of him in the sink. That is how his tail naturally lays.

Appointments Galore!

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

I met with my surgeon's P.A today. It was a good meeting. He is a super nice guy, and he seems like he genuinely cares about his patients. He told me what to expect with surgery. I am going to have a catheter, a tube in my nose and a drain in my stomach. It will only be in there for the day of my surgery, and hopefully will come out the next morning.

He also told me I will need to be on a drug called Lovenox for 14 days after my surgery. This is to prevent blood clots. He then told me that it will come in pre-filled syringes and the nurses in the hospital would teach me how to inject myself. I went as white as a sheet. I am scared to death of needles. The though of injecting myself with anything freaked me out. In fact, I am still freaking about it. Lucky for me, my mom is a nurse, so she will be able to help me.

After my appointment at the surgeon's, I had a pre-op testing appointment with the anesthesia department. My nurse was really great. My surgeon did her surgery 4 years ago. She lost 120 pounds, and she looks great. It was really nice to see that. It gives me something tangible. I can physically see her, and see how wonderful she has done.

They also informed me, that the only people who are allowed to go back with me to my room pre-op are my Mother and Boyfriend. That is such a relief! I won't have my grandparents there to stress me out. They will still come to the hospital though, but once I get called back, I won't see them until after. Then, I will be so drugged up I won't care.

I only have one more appointment with the RD... surgery is now 2 weeks away. I start the liver shrink diet tomorrow when I wake up.

I am going to the movies with friends tomorrow to see The Hunger Games. After we are going to Eat n Park, but I think I will just get a cup of hot tea and enjoy the company of the people who mean a lot to me, and i never get to see.

I think that is all for now

Congrats! I'm sure that your mom will be a great help - it's strange how you don't really feel it that much (I was on Byette for a while)

I am still 4 weeks away from my surgery - and a little nervous too, but it is going to be worth it. Good Luck and keep us updated!!
