Reeking of Sour Milk...and Patchouli

I was on my way to the gym this afternoon when I realized I had forgotten my gym clothes. I was going to just blow it off, and go grocery shopping, when I remembered that I had left my clothes in my bag from last time. Since, I usually don't take my gym bag out of my Jeep, there were there with me.

When I got to the gym and went to change, I noticed that the shirt smelled. I mean it smelled bad... like sour milk and patchouli oil. The patchouli oil I get since I wear it a lot as perfume, but the sour milk was puzzling. Never-the-less, I donned the reeking shirt and headed out to the cardio room.

I did 20 mins on the elliptical - I am now at level 10! When I first started, I could make it about 5 mins, on level 1 - now I can go 20-25 mins on level 10 (there are 20 levels, so 10 would be about a mid resistance I think) and i use the "random" feature which varies the resistance in intervals. So, I think that is pretty cool. I did the same type of workout on the bike and the treadmill (only the intervals vary the incline) for 20 mins each. I think it was a pretty good workout. I enjoyed it.

I then went grocery shopping. I bought lots of awesome things including a papaya. I have never had a fresh papaya. I have only had them dried or canned. I am interested to try it. I even watched a Youtube video on how to cut one.

I was going to buy a box of turkey burgers, but bought a box of Boca Burgers instead. There were less... well everything! Less calories, less fat... less money!

I have to work tomorrow. I switched days with a coworker. He worked for me on the 13th when I needed to take Leroy to the vet for tests, and I am working for him so he can go get drunk at some Hillbilly fiesta in Cumberland, MD.

I was so irritated at the gym today I wanted to scream.

Since the kids are out of school now, people bring them along. I understand that. It happens. The gym I go to does offer free child care from 8:00-1:00 then again from 4:00-8:00. The logical thing would be to go during those hours, so that you have someone to watch your children while you work out.

Of course, no one thinks logically like I do, and their children are climbing all over the machines that I want to use. Of course, instead of the parents telling them to stop it or to sit down, they just let them do whatever they want.

I have chosen to lead a child free life. I don't think I should have to deal with other peoples' children in what should be an adult environment. I mean, I am not a stickler for the rules usually, but there are signs that state no one under the age of 14 is permitted on the equipment without the direct supervision of a parent. Normally, I wouldn't care, but when they are interfering with my workout then they need to scat.

Other than peoples' urchin annoying me I had an awesome workout. My HRM said I burned 570 calories, which I totally believe since by the time I was done, I was exhausted.

    Yeah, definitely tell management or one of the employees what is going on. That shouldn't be happening. You PAY to be a member, so you shouldn't have to deal with evil munchkins hindering your workout plans.

    I will bring your concerns up with management. I have children but I work out at my house, as I converted my formal living room into a gym so that I don't have to worry about childcare. There are plenty of gyms that offer childcare out there however I guess people do not want to stick their 11 year old in a room with a 2 year old. I think if a gym is going to offer childcare they should also offer youth programs for the children that are not old enough for the equipment but too old for a nanny. I am married to a military man so I am often left being a single parent. However, parents need to accept responsibility for their children or find alternate exercises that can incorporate the kids.

    I'm surprised your gym would allow that to happen! There should be someone on duty that would monitor the gym periodically and notice what was going on.

About ready to call it quits

I set goals for the week.

1. Go to the gym 3x's and work out for at least 45 mins.
2. Say NO to work place junk food this weekend -
3. Lose 2 pounds
4. Drink my water on my days off
5. Make smart choices when we go out to eat at the Olive Garden or Hoss'

1. I went to the gym 3 days. 60 mins for 2 days and 20 min for another

2. I did a very good job with this. I did have some ice cream and a doughnut, but I avoided most everything else.

3. I gained 1.8 pounds soo...

4. I accomplished this

5. I accomplished this

I am so tired of trying so hard and not getting anywhere. I admit there are days when I may go over my calorie range, but it usually isn't a HUGE amount, it is usually a few hundred at most.

I have quit Weight Watchers. I really like it, but I am not paying $40 a month to go weigh in once a week. I have been tracking on Weight Watchers and Spark for a while now, and it is almost the same. Weight Watchers were a little higher on calories because it allowed you to eat fruit and veggies for free.

After a pity party for myself, I have decided that I need to recommit myself to my healthy lifestyle. I have decided on this new plan

1. Stick to my Spark ranges of 1200-1550 calories a day

2. Go to the gym only on days that I have off and do not work

3. On days that I work, add a walk (maybe 1-1.5 miles)

I think that is a very doable plan, and perhaps adding a small walk a few times a week will make a difference. I am hoping that it does.

I have made a few goal for the upcoming week

1. Stick to my calorie range
2. Go to the gym 3x's
3. Go for a walk on the days I work (Thursday and Friday)
4. Say no to work place junk food
5. Make smart choices when eating out.

I think all of this is doable I know if I do these things, I will see results at the scale.

    I'm glad you came up with what sounds like a very workable plan instead of giving up. Setting goals that fit into your schedule will be more doable and therefor encouraging. I've tried WW a few times, but now that I've found SP, I won't ever go back. I've found that counting actual calories keeps me much more accountable. As far as the weigh-in part, just be honest here and I think you will get just as much encouragement and motivation here as you would with WW. I know how hard the junk at work can be. I have a co-worker who will NOT touch anything unless it is packed in her lunch. She's been a true inspiration to me. Keep up the work and you will see and feel the changes!!

    Don't give up! It can be hard, and discouraging, at times, but you need to find what works best for you. I did great at first, but then all the sudden I was stuck. I was still doing what had been working and I wanted to quit. Instead, I shuffled things around and found a way to break through. I cut sugar and white flour, any processed foods, out of my diet, and Viola! Things started moving again for me. Now I'm just 10 lbs away from my goal weight and I feel great.
My point is, just figure out what works best for you and things will start moving again!!

    Committing to the calorie range is hard for me as well, escpecially on the weekends. You can do it! I find that if I am really strick for breakfast having no more than 250 calories and then eat a frozen weight watchers meal for lunch along with a couple 100 calorie snacks I can have a normal meal and night and not go over.

I have been doing the same thing as you all year and I will lose and gaine the same 5 pounds over and over. I lost 30 last year so as of this week I am committing to staying in my calories range and burning at least 1200 in exercise a week. I am also taking the kids and dogs for walks or trips to the park 2 to 3 times a week just for added exercise.

    I love weight watchers and it keeps me accountable, which I so need! I have found when I don't seem to be making any progress I have to change things up. The last time I gained, which was 3 weeks ago, I upped my protein intake and I changed up the workout routine...added more st (strength training) will a little higher weight. I really need to go back to the gym but things have been crazy for me lately so I have been fitting things in around the house saves me 20 minutes travel time :) I try to walk on my 15 everyday and sometimes at lunch and even after work if I am feeling really motivated. I also try to keep something that isn't so bad for me in my drawer at work so when the cookies or cake come in I am less tempted :)
Keep it up! You will get there!

    Another thing to help you stick with your goals and not inadvertently sabotage yourself...pack your own work place "junk food" You're less likely to eat there if you have your own things to munch on, plus you have the added benefit of knowing exactly your calories.
And remember...sometimes we are going to do everything exactly right and we are still not going to lose weight. Weight loss and a healthier you is a never ending journey that can only be taken one step at a time.
Keep your head up and you'll do great!

I have decided to start my Spark Journey over. I reverted myself back to Fast Break - Phase I. I think I need to take the time to recommit myself to my journey. The best place to begin a journey is at the begining. So, it is at the begining I am starting.

I didn't do horribly on the scales this week, I stayed the same. I was expecting worse. I had a bad incident the other night with some binge eating (we won't talk about what came after) and I think I am in a good place now to re-think and restart.

I am thinking about going to the gym after work but I am not 100%. That is still five hours away from now, and I am not sure how I will be feeling at 5am. If I don't go after work, I will go after I wake up. That is for sure. My goal is to go to the gym Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I know I can do it, I just have to commit myself to doing it.

I am going to continue with Weight Watchers as well. I feel that program is offering me a lot. It is helping hold me accountable, which is really what I need. Every week, Linda is seeing the scales right along with me. That helps.

I don't think any of those things are that difficult, and I know that I can accomplish them.

In other news, I made a pretty awesome dinner - Salmon, baked sweet potato and green beans. I am still hungry. I could eat a lot more, or at least that is how I feel.

Every day, I drive past McDonald's and don't pull through the drive thru is an accomplishment. At least, that is how I look at it.

    On the bright side, Olive Garden has a wonderful steak and vegetables meal, I know it isn't pasta but it is fantastic. Those breadsticks are my enemy number 1 and the salad too!

You can do this journey, you salmon sounds absolutely wonderful! This is the best time of year for good food. Enjoy it!

**and yes, driving past the Mickey D's is a great accomplishment, it is too easy to get derailed in those places**
