The healing process

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

My arm hurts like Hades right now, and I suspect it is going to hurt for a while yet.

I sat for 4 1/2 hours for my tattoo yesterday. It wasn't too bad at first. There were a few places that pinched, but nothing i couldn't deal with. By the time hour 3 rolled around, pretty much everything hurt. The last 45 mins was the worst pain of the entire process. It was painful. Although, I can say it wasn't the most painful thing I have ever had done, it was still painful.

Today, it hurts worse than it did yesterday. I know I am going to bruise too. I bruise so easy... heck, I even have bruised knees from doing these kneeling squat things and lunges where you go down so low you touch your knee to the floor... so yeah, I am going to bruise.

I am not sure how long I am going to take off from PC Fit. The thing is... I am working the next 9 days straight! I know that doesn't sound like much, but when you are working 12 hour shift overnight, it is a lot. I don't mind doing it because I just keep thinking of all of that $$$ that I am going to get. That will be a nice start for my winter wardrobe since all of my winter clothes are now too big.

Anyway, I hope all of my Spark friends have an awesome day!

I am so happy that you love it!
Hang in there! You had RNY, not scared of pain.
Resting for 9 days will be a good thing. It makes you REALLY miss it. Love the process. And happy winter clothes shopping!

New Tattoo! (Photos)

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

My dear Spark Friends! I am in a world of hurt right now! I got my new tattoo, which was covering up an old one I had. I sat for 4 1/2 hours! It was mighty painful, but the end result was sooo worth it!

There are a few places where you can see the old tattoo, but that is ok. I am going back in November and she will touch up any place that needs it. Honestly speaking, unless you look REALLY close, you can't see it. Plus my skin is still red, swelled and raw. I only had it done a few hours ago, so who knows where we will be when it heals

I am 110% satisfied!

tattoo sketch (Photo)

Thursday, August 08, 2013

So this is what my new tattoo is going to look like... only with lots of bright colors -- it is going to be about a 1/2 sleeve on my right upper arm. I am actually covering up another tattoo with this one

It is going to be soooo cooool!!

In other news, I took Coach Tony's PC Fit class tonight - that is like PC Fit on steroids squared! His classes are so hard! the important this is a try my hardest. I might need to take a few breaks, and I might be the last one, but I am out there doing it!

Part of me wants to get up at 5:30 am, and go to the 10:00 am class. I want to get up so early because I want to have time to get a proper weight, get my tea, have breakfast and all of that other stuff, but another part of me just wants to sleep in! I have been on the go all of my days off and haven't had a chance to really sleeeppppp!

I guess we will see!

New Boots make any day better! (photo)

Wednesday, August 07, 2013

Today was alright. I didn't go to PC Fit, and I can feel it! I have no idea how I am going to take time off while my tattoo heals! I figure I will only miss a week - I am going to take class on Monday and Tuesday, then take the rest of the week off. I take 2-3 classes a week, so I won't really be missing too much. Then I think depending on what it looks like, I may take class the following Wednesday. It has been so long since I got a tattoo, I can't remember how long it is going to take. Plus I am getting a rather large piece. It isn't like I am getting a small tattoo. I think it will most likely be a half sleeve by the time she is done with it. That is going to take a while.

I actually opted to go to support group instead of PC Fit. I am glad I went to group because the topic was "Obstacles and how to overcome them" which is a HUGE help for me right now. I got a lot out of the group. I am still thinking about calling and getting a recommendation for a psychologist. I think it couldn't hurt?

I spent the afternoon prior to group volunteering at the library. I didn't really do much there other than play online and check books out for people.

and I bought these new awesome boots

I've been meaning to comment--- I ADORE your new boots!!!!

They are AWESOME!!! I've always wanted boots again (since I gained weight 25 years ago, I couldn't find any I liked that fit my calf :(((()

This summer we went to a wedding in Kansas City. At the reception, the plan was for the bride and most people to change to their cowboy boots. Of course I couldn't miss out, so we went to this HUGE boot store in the middle of nowhere in Missouri and the whole family got new boots. We spent the better part of the day happily shopping thru thousands of pairs of boots and trying on fabulous sparklies, outrageous heels and over the top expensive ones.

I settled on ones with black foot part and red calf part. I LOVE them! AND I got them on sale!!!!

And I LOVE shopping with you!!!!

Happy Day!

    Those boots are awesome!
Yes, go for counselling. Adapting to a whole new life and a whole new body is a challenge. It will be a good thing to find out where you might be seeing things wrong. (Wish you could go to mine, he is awesome)
Got him with the surgery. He had to do the shrink thing before and after.
Knows a lot about the topic. He is also a criminal profiler which makes him seriously interesting to talk to about other things.
Hope you get an awesome one too!

Eat a Sandwich

Tuesday, August 06, 2013

On Sunday I sent my horrible Quinoa creation to work with my boyfriend to give to my human garbage disposal co-workers (who liked it by the way?)

*note - boyfriend and i work for the same company *

My former boss and still co-worker and friend was there working. He was talking to my boyfriend and said "Tell Cortney to eat a f------ sandwich - that must be like dating Skelator"

When my boyfriend gave me his message, I burst out laughing. I sent him an email today that said

"I am eating a sandwich"
He came back with
"Good, eat 2 or 3 you need it"

It made me laugh

The thing is though, I don't see myself as someone who needs to "eat a sandwich" I don't think I will ever see myself there. I still see myself as someone who eats too many sandwiches! I don't view myself as others do. My co-workers are always telling me to eat a sandwich or a cheeseburger... but I don't see myself as they see me. My one co-worker told me I was too skinny... which, I am a little bony in the shoulders and back, but that is just the way my body naturally is.. or at least that is what I am thinking.

On a different note, I wonder how much I would weigh if I got my excess skin removed?

Anyway, I am going to go back to my sandwich emoticon

I think it is interesting how people who knew us "before" react to seeing us "after".... I had someone recently say that I was "wasting away" and I thought, wow, that's a bit of an exaggeration, I am far from being skin and bones.... but I guess they see me as being so much smaller than my before surgery self. Anyway - I think it is very hard for us to see ourselves as this new "thin" person that others see us as.... takes a while to make that transition in thinking!

Great response! Telling people they are not eating enough even though they are seems to be a trend these days as I've seen a few other blogs on the topic. I blogged about this myself a while back. The hardest part is the in-laws.

People we knew 'way back when' seem to have the biggest jolts when seeing us in our 'new' form. The comment I always laugh at is 'You are MELTING!' Makes me think "Was I SUCH a wicked witch of the west when I was FAT???"

I MUCH prefer myself wearing the ruby slippers today!!

I am glad that you are able to have such a good sense of humor about it! I would have been severely annoyed, but it would have been pointless, which would have annoyed me even more. You've struggled so hard and done so much work to improve your health, and all this propellerhead can say is "eat a sandwich?!"

    Hehe!
Why don't you try what my shrink told me to do. Change some drastic thing about yourself and shock your brain into really seeing what you look like? Like a different hair colour.
Looked at your tracker, you are eating well actually. All that PC fit is going to give you plenty of muscle tone, that will be visible without layers covering them.
The scale is just a number that messes with our heads.
CONSTANT VIGILANCE! and
BALANCE!
