2011 in perspective

2011 was both a good year and a not so good year. My husband was unemployed until November and we had to rely solely on my pay check. It was tight, but we made it. emoticon

I struggled greatly with my weight in 2011 gaining more then 10 pounds during the year. That has been very frustrating and discouraging. I have challenged myself and my sister and brother to get skinny this year. I would really like to finally reach goal weight!

The best part of the year was running a half marathon. When 2011 started it was my goal to just run 5 10Ks, but I got ambitious and decided to start training for a half. I met my goal of 5 10K's and also ran the SOJO Half Marathon. It was the hardest thing I have ever done - but also one of my proudest moments.

Running has become my passion. Being a part of the C25K Graduates Spark Team has been an awesome inspiration to me to keep me out there running and working towards my goals.

Bring on 2012 and a full marathon. This years goals: reach goal weight and run the Deseret News Marathon! emoticon

Gateway to 8K

My last blog was the end of May. Since then I have finished the Couch to 5K training and walked 1 5K and run 2 5Ks with a third this Saturday. My goal is to run a total of 5 5Ks before the end of the year. I have one planned for September and October and if I'm brave enough to run in the cold - I will run a "Turkey Trot" on Thanksgiving Day.

I have now started the Gateway to 8K training. It is quite a bit more intense then the 5K training. But I'm doing it! I look back at how far I have come in the running world I'm actually starting to think 10Ks for next year and maybe even training for a 1/2 marathon for the next year. Who knows - maybe a whole marathon before I turn 50! Ambitious I know - but hey - we are all capable of great things!

    I need to get started on some races like you are doing. I don't see marathons in my future though good for you to have your sights set on that. I am so glad to be sharing my g28K experience with you.

I live in a seasonal climate as well and am nervous about running in the cold and icy slushy streets!

We will take it one day at a time, right?

Couch to 5K

I started the Couch to 5K program a few weeks ago. I just finished week 3. It feels really good! I hope by starting to run I will break this 6 month plateau. I really want to post a picture of myself at 60 pounds!

    Good for you. I notice when I walk that the endophins in my brain are released and I feel so much happier after I have walked. I am not a runner and I don't know that my joints at my age would appreciate me starting a running program but they sure do like walks. I did about 17,000 steps yesterday (about 7 miles) and it was great. My dog goes with me and he is much happier too when I get him out there walking.

Set backs and hard work

My weight has barely budged since October. I have been up and down within the same four pounds! I had surgery the first of February - gained four pounds during the 6 week recovery and cannot get it off! It has been very frustrating! I feel good, I exercise hard and I'm very aware of what I am eating - one of these days my body is just going to have to let it go! I have to keep telling myself to hang in there!

    I did the same thing then all of a sudden lost 1 then a couple days later 1 more. Hang in there your body's adjusting. I cheated once in a while but not within my calorie intake. I think it was the fat in my diet that caused a little longer stay. I think I'm on my way again. I want to lose them slowly so they won't come back and my skin stays with my weight. Good luck. It will happen. emoticon

Getting fit finally paid off

This past Friday and Saturday I helped my son move out of one apartment and into another. We had to haul boxes and furniture up the stairs out of the old apartment into the trailer and up the stairs again into the new apartment! I was so proud of myself! I was able to take load after load up and down stairs without getting tired! I would go up the stairs - drop a box off and go back down the stairs and get the next box. Over and over again! A year ago I would never have been able to that! I would have been huffing and puffing and having to take a break between each trip up and down the stairs. It feels so good to know that all my hard work is finally paying off!
