Today I set a 2013 goal: lose 20 to 25 lbs by Memorial Day weekend.
When I reset my goals here on SP, it said I could lose 2 lbs/week and hit my goal by May 23...just in time for that weekend! But instead of obsessing over that, I'm going to concentrate on doing what I know is healthy:
-Eat better (no daily Sbux)
-Exercise (minimum 30 minutes, 6/week)
-Drink water
-Sleep more (I'm averaging about 5 hours a night)
I know what to do & my friend Jen (marathon runner) is keeping me accountable!
I'm also doing this for my family. My hubby wants to lose weight & he's starting cross fit this week, so I want to support him.
And the other day we were so "busy" that our family ate two fast food drive thru meals (lunch and dinner). Our kids are 3 and 7. Unacceptable!
Thank God, we're all healthy and well. Again, thank God! But we definitely want to honor and thank Him by taking care of our bodies. :)
So, here we go, this is the official kick off of this new goal in

wow! It's been close to a year since my last blog ... and a LOT has changed. Since last April, I got a job offer, relocated from California to Texas, started a new job, my son started kindergarten (!), daughter turned 2, hubby found the "job" of his dreams & even though I didn't finish the 10k, I've maintained pretty well. Actually, since my last weigh-in here, I'm down 1.5 lbs! Yay!
I swapped running in CA for cardio/zumba/power punch/ripped & more at the YMCA (got a membership thru work!)
God's been good to me & my family and I'm excited about the New Year and a renewed desire to finally drop the last 10lbs or so that I've been wanting to lose.
I hope you hit your goals, too. We can do this! We can do ALL things through Christ who is our strength. Thank you, Lord!
Blessings in 2012!

Hi friends!
I'd been gone from Sparkpeople for a bit, but I haven't been "inactive"! I've just been tracking my running with the Runkeeper app on my iPhone. :)
Here's the amazing part of the story: I hated running.
I thought a treadmill was the worst thing in the world!
Treadmills are still on my list of "worst things in the world", but running outside is another story. Going for a run outdoors in the chilly morning air, or enjoying the running trail on a warm sunny afternoon, are some of the best things ever!
Running became an option when we cut the gym to be more budget-conscious (and because our baby girl wouldn't stay in the nursery.) Trust me, we tried. They just kept interrupting my workout because she'd been crying for 10-15 minutes straight.
As a mom, i just couldn't do that.
But I wasn't about to use it as an excuse to not workout!
The solution was something I could do at home, especially while the kids were sleeping.
Running in the morning is not the workout I would've chosen. Give me Zumba, Hip Hop, free weights & cool cardio machines (not treadmills) at the club!
Instead of seeing the limitations and what I couldn't do, I contacted my runner friend Liliana for advice. She was SO excited about me trying running that I just had to try it.
I tried it, and I liked it.
And I'm running a 10k next month!
Last year, I attempted a Mercy 5k run with my Air 1 Radio and Mercy Ministries friends for a great cause. I ran/walked that 5k.
Now I'm training for that 10k and the goal is to finish!
I'm excited about it and we'll see where that takes me. Maybe even the Minnie 1/2 Marathon at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL that my friend Liliana suggested, January of 2012.
Good things ... maybe even GREAT things are yet to come!

My friend Liliana challenged me today. She encouraged me to sign up for my very first 5k Run last year. She knows that I've been thinking of doing a 10k. In fact, when I think of 2011 goals, I usually mention wanting to run a 10k.
On facebook, she threw down the challenge: why don't I sign up for the 1/2 marathon at Disney World in January of 2012?!
R U Crazy?!
Am I Crazy?! Because I'm actually giving it some serious thought!
I don't wanna say yes if I'm not going to do it...but I am thinking about it.
Part 2 of this blog post will be interesting...will I say yes or no?
The answer is coming soon!

About a month ago, I posted a blog about how I couldn't get motivated to work out.
I hadn't really been making healthy meals, either.
It's been 1 month...no change.
So why did that happen? I think the reason is "lack of planning" or "letting life get ahead of you and not being able to catch up!"
Over the past month it's been a blur of things happening too fast!
---December 21st we bought plane tickets to PR!
---Last minute Christmas shopping!
---Christmas Eve at church!
---Christmas Day!
---Pack for the trip/Make sure everything's taken care of at home!
---New Years Eve...get on plane...celebrate in PR!
---Crazy family trip in PR--11 days!
---Back from trip to unpack/clean house/catch up at work!
---Everyone's sick/Drs visits/recovery time at home!
---Catch up cleaning at home after everyone was too sick to do anything!
---Prepare plans for the voice lessons I'm starting to teach!
---I'm having a hard time keeping up with myself!
Sitting down to plan meals? Going to bed early so I can wake up early to work out? HA!
The advice people always give you is "Just Do It." "It's Up to You."
In my experience, yes, that's true. But it really helps if I have a Big Goal. If I have a play coming up, or a 5k, or I'm doing the "Unprocessed Challenge", it helps to have a REASON to do this.
Yeah, being healthy is THE best reason, but those Big Goals really motivate me, too.
So, I think that's it. I just have to find something, make it "The Goal" and get back here to report the success!!
...even if I stumble on the way there!
