Taking a Day OffSunday, November 15, 2009
One of the most difficult things for me to do during my fitness journey has been to take a day off from impact cardio at least once a week. Since I enjoy running, it is easy for me to not take the necessary time off to allow my body to recover. Since I have begun taking that day off each week I have begun to see my body respond positively to the day of rest. ![]()

Good for you! I, unfortunately, don't have trouble taking days off....in fact, I tend to take too many of them....HAHA, but I know for you avid runners, it's a hard thing to do. Good for you getting your wife involved!!!

Rest is definitely important, regardless of how fit a person may be. Your body will appreciate the time off as you prepare for the new week. Have a great one. Report Inappropriate Comment |

i guess i don't always consider excercise work, so for me i do not feel like i need a day off. i have tried to take time out to enjoy the simple things lately. Sometimes i get so cought up in "stuff" i don't enjoy the people in my life and give then the time they deserve. Report Inappropriate Comment |

A friend at work has helped me with a running program that will begin to prepare my body for a marathon in the spring. The focus of the week is the long run, which for me is on Saturday. Today I was supposed to go 13 miles, but as I was running I decided to push myself a little further.
When I picked up running again about 6 years ago, I did not honestly believe that I would ever be able to handle a distance like this. The exciting thing was that after I was done running, I truly felt like I could have gone farther.
What is something that you can do now, that you couldn't do before you started your exercise regimen?

I started running in July. I could barely do quarter miles. Now I'm up to 3 1/2 miles and entered to do a 5K next Saturday!
