Conversing with an old friend

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Spoke with one of my former students today who is moving back to Missouri. He had been serving with a ministry called Youth Works in Minnesota, but is not coming back to Missouri so he can go to seminary and prepare for missionary service.

It's always encouraging to see what God is doing in the life of someone whom you've invested your life into in the past. It reminded me of just how important the relationships that God brings into our lives truly are.

Be a blessing to someone today.

An investment in youth is always paid back in full. It may take some time to see it but you are doing God's work!

The fields are full and ready for harvest. I'm glad you could bring the people with you to help harvest.

Running between the Storms

Friday, July 30, 2010

I was fortunate to get a nice run in this morning between thunderstorms. It would be nice if it would stop raining so much, but I am sure there are places where people would love to have this kind of weather.

One of the cool things on my run was that I was able to see the impending storm as it began to move towards us after I had finished my run, and was cooling down with a walk. Of course, most people would not find this as fascinating as I do, since I've been a storm junkie since my childhood.

Hope your Friday has been terrific!!!

He rejoices over you

Thursday, July 29, 2010

It seems to me that many of us who claim to be followers of Christ have a more limited understanding of God's love for us that the one that is painted in Scripture. As I was reading in Isaiah today, I came across a vers that said, "And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so your God will rejoice over you" (Isaiah 62:5b).

As a minister I have been fortunate to officiate several weddings in my lifetime. One of the things that always sticks with me is the look on the groom's face when he sees his bride coming down the aisle. There are times that I see these young men express a joy that is impossible to descibe.

How much more rejoicing is shown by the lover of our souls, when He sees us coming to meet Him? May the Father grant you at least a sense of just how much He loves you today.

Blessings.

Excited for Olivia

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Our youngest daughter celebrated her eighth birthday yesterday. While that in and of itself is a great enough reason to celebrate, it also marked another milestone that brought a great smile to her face. In our state, children are to remain in booster seats until they either reach a certain height or weight, or a certain age. Since she is not blessed with the "tall gene" of her older sister, she has had to wait for that magic age of eight.

She was all smiles as she situated herself in the back seat and put on her seat belt. She wanted to destroy the booster seat, but we chose to simply set it in a corner in the garage and wait and see if it might be of use to someone else someday.

I remember that day as well. It was much better the second time around.

My youngest had gotten out of the booster seat and we had passed it on. She had been out of it for almost a year when they updated the law and we had to get one again.

She was really mad that 4 months.

Pass my congrats on to your daughter.

My boy turned 12 this spring. That's the magic age in Illinois to sit in the front seat. It's fun to watch he and his mother yelling "SHOTGUN" when I'm driving the family somewhere! :)
