Running in the soup

Monday, July 19, 2010

This mornings run was a challenge for both my wife and I. With morning temps at about 80 degrees and a humidity that is about the same percent as the temps it was a struggle to get the run done this morning. I am sure that some of the folks who saw us out this morning were probably wondering about our sanity.

The best thing that I have learned to do to endure days like today is to take some water with me. While it's a pain to carry that little bottle as I run, it's benefits far outweigh the minor annoyance that it is.

If you live where the heat and humidity are approaching rainforest like conditions, be sure to drink plenty of fluids and take care of yourself.

Have an amazing day!

I have a camelback and I love it! Carries my water for me and keeps it cool for a while too. Just a thought.

South Mississippi the humidity is always greater than 80. I tell folks it is hot enough to make you want to live right!
Drink lots water and drinks with electrolytes! emoticon

I pulled the safety card on our camping trip this weekend because of the heat. We camped Friday night but Saturday night retired to the AC. Be safe!

Getting ready for a party

Sunday, July 18, 2010

Our youngest daughter is really excited about going to her best friend's birthday party (a sleep-over to boot). We're excited for her. She's packed and unpacked several times and is trying to pass the time by watching her favorite tv show since she can't get outside to ride her bike.

Should be a fun night for her and her friends. I'm just thankful that this gathering is not taking place at our house ; )

They take a lot to get ready for, but they are something that your children love.

Hope she had fun.

Gotta love the heat

Friday, July 16, 2010

As much as i wanted to sleep in this morning on a day off from work, i also wanted to get a nice run in this morning. So i actually woke up before the alarm went off got some water to take with me and started off on this week's long run. While i didn't go as far as i had hoped, i was not as overwhelmed with fatigue due to the good night's sleep and leaving a little earlier before the morning heated up.

Hope you made it out early this morning if you exercise outdoors. Our little heatwave here in mid-Mo won't seem to leave us alone.

I'm with you Coop! I don't run, but I get up every morning at 4:40 and walk 3 miles in an hour. I use that as me and God time also.

Take care of yourself

Thursday, July 15, 2010

It was another oppressive morning here in mid-Mo.

I was thankful to be able to get out early before the dangerous heat & humidity became a reality.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids as you go through your day.

You must have been out before the sun was up because it was muggy from the get go this morning.

Thanks for the breeze

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Yes, our version of a heat wave has hit mid-Mo. Temps in the mid 90's with the heat index roaming around 105. However, it is not the afternoons that are tought, it's the fact that it's already 80 degrees when i head out the door to run at about 6 a.m.

It was brutal this morning. Carried water with me, which i don't usually do during the week on my shorter runs. However, I was glad that i did.

During the run, i kept finding a breeze at different points to refresh my body for a few seconds and encourage my spirit.

It's amazing what can encourage us on our journey. Hopefully, your day is going well and it's a little cooler in your part of the world.

I live a block away from a high school stadium and that is where I do my power walks. I take a liter of water with me and drink about a cup after every mile and the last one on the way home.
You're right, even that early in the morning it's rough in the summer, but I have noticed that without fail, God ALWAYS BLESSES me with a refreshing breeze during the last mile. Thank you Lord!!!
