A Dangerous Prayer

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

"God bring me closer to You..., whatever it takes" - Francis Chan in Crazy Love

Lately, I've been reading ana amazing book that has helped me to take a fresh look at my faith and how I seek to live out the teachings of Jesus. As I read these words today, I began to examine my own life and then wonder just how willing I was to pray this prayer and allow the ramifications of it to be a reality in my life.

Like many people I enjoy the life I've been given. I like the freedom and security that I have as I work and live in this great place called America. Still, I can't help but wonder, if my desire for safety and security has impeded my relationship with my Savior and hindered by own spiritual growth and maturity.

Am I willing to allow God to do whatever He wants in my life in order to draw me closer to Himself and to make me more like His Son. I do not think that I am there yet, but I know I want to be. So I guess my prayer for today is, "Lord, help me to trust you completely, so that You can do whatever You want with this life that You've given to me."

Will you join me in praying that prayer?

When we focus on this world and make it our home; we cannot pray that prayer.

When we don't have an understanding of the glory that lies ahead; we cannot pray that prayer.

When we are afraid of dying; we cannot pray that prayer.

When we don't understand the Kingdom of God; we cannot pray that prayer.

Denying "self" activates so much LIFE. And for the Christ follower, there is no fear in death. We crucify our desires DAILY. We say "yes" to Him and "no" to our will, flesh, desires. Here's the thing..... He ALWAYS blesses!!! There is ALWAYS a reward. He's not a cruel God. He is a GOOD God.

Doubt is dangerous, God is powerful and will answer your prayers with love and understanding.

This is a great prayer!! It's only a dangerous prayer if God is considered dangerous and not trustworthy.

But if we knew God as He really is... He's kind and gentle in heart. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. He desires to gather us as a hen gathers her chicks in order to protect them. He sacrificed the most important thing to Him--His Son--in order to bring us out of the Kingdom of darkness in order to bring us into the Kingdom of light. I could go on!...

If we can get past distrusting God and trust His love and wisdom, perfect love drives out fear and then we are free to come closer to Him. See?! That's what it takes! We'll stop running to other things and turn to HIM. He is a REWARDER (not a punisher) of those who diligently seek Him!!! (Heb. 11:6)

Be strong and go forward with confidence!!!!!!

That is a dangerous prayer and one that I've never prayed whole-heartedly, which I think is kind of sad for my life. I guess I'm scared of what that life will look like... Maybe that's where my motivation went too.

Your blog reminded me of the last part of 1 Timothy 6:17 where Timothy was instructed not to trust in earthly riches but to put his trust in the living God who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
I will join you in this prayer and I commend you for this prayer!

Running in the soup

Monday, July 19, 2010

This mornings run was a challenge for both my wife and I. With morning temps at about 80 degrees and a humidity that is about the same percent as the temps it was a struggle to get the run done this morning. I am sure that some of the folks who saw us out this morning were probably wondering about our sanity.

The best thing that I have learned to do to endure days like today is to take some water with me. While it's a pain to carry that little bottle as I run, it's benefits far outweigh the minor annoyance that it is.

If you live where the heat and humidity are approaching rainforest like conditions, be sure to drink plenty of fluids and take care of yourself.

Have an amazing day!

I have a camelback and I love it! Carries my water for me and keeps it cool for a while too. Just a thought.

I pulled the safety card on our camping trip this weekend because of the heat. We camped Friday night but Saturday night retired to the AC. Be safe!

Getting ready for a party

Sunday, July 18, 2010

Our youngest daughter is really excited about going to her best friend's birthday party (a sleep-over to boot). We're excited for her. She's packed and unpacked several times and is trying to pass the time by watching her favorite tv show since she can't get outside to ride her bike.

Should be a fun night for her and her friends. I'm just thankful that this gathering is not taking place at our house ; )

They take a lot to get ready for, but they are something that your children love.

Hope she had fun.

Gotta love the heat

Friday, July 16, 2010

As much as i wanted to sleep in this morning on a day off from work, i also wanted to get a nice run in this morning. So i actually woke up before the alarm went off got some water to take with me and started off on this week's long run. While i didn't go as far as i had hoped, i was not as overwhelmed with fatigue due to the good night's sleep and leaving a little earlier before the morning heated up.

Hope you made it out early this morning if you exercise outdoors. Our little heatwave here in mid-Mo won't seem to leave us alone.

Take care of yourself

Thursday, July 15, 2010

It was another oppressive morning here in mid-Mo.

I was thankful to be able to get out early before the dangerous heat & humidity became a reality.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids as you go through your day.
