It's hard for me to imagine what life would be like for many of us today without the uncommon sacrifice of a group of men and women who were willing to take some extraordinary risks for the sake of an ideal that they believed was essential. It was not just those men who signed the Declaration of Independence 234 years ago today who took a great risk. There were farmers, artisans, doctors, lawyers, and laborers of all types who were willing to risk their lives, their families and their futures for the sake of freedom.
I am not sure that I will ever be able to fully comprehend the commitment and sacrifice of these brave men and women who have gone before us. However, I am sure that I will be forever grateful to them for their willingness to make the hard choices to establish this strange and unique nation.
As you enjoy today, remember those who have gone before us as well as those who stand in
harms' way today to protect us.
