Staying the course

Monday, June 28, 2010

I am not sure how it is for everyone else, but there are times when I find myself getting distracted by things that lead me off course from what matters most. It is far too easy for me to chase after rabbits that will lead nowhere, but simply waste a lot of time.

Yesterday, I had a conversation with an old friend who is facing a difficult chapter in his life. A little over two weeks ago, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. As we spoke on the phone I was overwhelmed and encouraged by his attitude and his confidence that he was going to beat this disease.

After we spoke, I spent some time thinking about the life that I have been given. My hope and prayer is that I will remain focused upon the most important roles that I have been given in life; Christ-follower, Husband and Dad.

Regardless of what happens in life it is important that I never forget what truly matters. Hopefully, my meandering thoughts will encourage someone or help them to make sure their energy and focus is upon what truly matters most.

It's amazing how a tragedy can change your focus in a hurry. We are a people who are dependent on Jesus.

Better than I deserve..

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Today was my final Sunday as the interim pastor for North Park Baptist Church in Moberly, MO. My job allows me to serve as an interim pastor for churches for up to six months. In my nine plus years with the state convention I have been involved in about a dozen churches as interim pastor. Without hesitation I can honestly say that this has been my most enjoyable experience yet.

This church is filled with both older and younger leaders who are seeking a vision to minister to their community. An example of this attitude is demonstrated by several of the students who are starting a ministry to hispanic people who are moving into their community. This follows a mission trip where about 25 students and adults were able to minister in an orphanage in Venezula.

As I said my good-byes to folks at the close of the final service, I was encouraged by the number of people who offered me such kind and thankful comments regarding my service at this church. Several Sunday School classes even signed cards of gratitude for me to take home. In fact, one of the cards contained a check which was from a love offering taken up for both me and my family.

My prayer is that this church will find the pastor that the Father desires and will continue to share their love for Christ both in their community and to the ends of the earth.

I hope that your next congregation is as good as this. May your footsteps be kept in his way!

Some nice clouds

Saturday, June 26, 2010

I am sure that some of you are getting tired of my blogging about my runs, but I did have a nice run this morning. It was sticky and humid, but cloudy. So without the sun beating down on my weary body, I was able to actually make some progress this morning.

As I have said before, it is the silence and solitude that I truly enjoy during these times. It was a sweet time of communion and prayer with my Maker as we took our morning paces together. I hope your Saturday started off at least as well as mine.

Blessings upon you.

Looks like a beautiful sight. I so understand needing that time together in the morning to have a talk with God. It is what helps to get through the day.

I never tirer of hearing about your runs. It is because I know that is your time with our Father. I don't run but my time is early early mornings with my Father The quite and peace is so worth it. When I get my patio area finished I will be spending it outside as well. And I can find the beauty in the yard with no problem.

Nicer than last week

Friday, June 25, 2010

This morning's long run was a better experience than last week's. Got out early to try and beat the heat and humidity. I am so thankful for a couple of stops on my run where i can refill my water bottle to help me keep going.

So how are you dealing with the summer heat as it relates to your exercise?

Let's see summer "Heat" in San Francisco... 54 this morning and misty fog. so I put a t-shirt on with a long sleeve t-shirt over that and the athletic t-shirt over that, wool hat, fleece gloves, shorts. Socks and shoes and that deals with the "heat" . Out the door at 4:10 AM. Life is good, woohoo!! emoticon
