The half marathon keeps getting closer and I am getting more excited! My mom is coming the morning of to take my camera and car keys. I am estimating it will take me around 2 hrs 45 minutes to 3 hrs to finish. If I am running with other ppl though and I am all excited, I might run faster. Scott seems to think I will run faster for some reason lol He thinks I don't give it my all on my long runs and I will when I actually put to the test. He has me reading the born to run book. There is this woman in the book who is an ultra marathon runner. She is so amazing, she's from the US and she's like 5'1 and a science teacher from a junior college. Her secret seemed to be that she just loves running. She didn't do it because she was trying to lose weight or fit into a certain size. She just did it for the joy of running and she was good at it. Distance running seems to be a different animals then most sports. Ppl hit their peaks later, people can do it at any age. I am happy Scott got me to read it, it's really interesting.

Still on my spark roll. I think tomorrow is the last day of the week I will be exercising. I need to save up some energy for this weekend. I think I shall lounge around the next two days! I finally have a break from work, time to relax.

    a few years ago, i attended a lecture from Dr. Dennis Bramble (University of Utah). he has done a lot of research on the connection between human evolution and long-distance running. (there's a big article in _Nature_, Nov. 18, 2004, but there's a summary at this link:

the link doesn't discuss what he showed in his lecture about age and marathons. opposed to other types of running, marathoners are better in their 30s rather than early 20s. and ability of marathoners improves rapidly through the 20s and 30s, but ability declines slowly after the peak. essentially, a 50 or 60-year-old can still have a pace equal to someone in their early twenties. Dr. Bramble is trying to discover why humans maintain this skill for distance running.

if you haven't ever listened to _This American Life_ on the radio, you should check it out. you've got 15 years worth of episodes to explore, but you might want to start with "Running After Antelope" (
-After-Antelope). This story was written by the brother of Dr. Bramble's graduate student. This graduate student is a big part of the inspiration to explore man's relationship to long distance running.

    if u really want to get pumped, u should watch this documentary called "Spirit of the Marathon" it's amazing.

I'm with Scott...when you get there in the camaraderie of the event, your adrenaline will kick in and you are going to fly. ;)

Less than a week to the half marathon!

I have not been blogging lately. In my free time lately I enjoy laying in bed and watching documentaries. Other then that working and exercising. I did my last long run today before the half marathon. Other then that run I am just doing smaller exercises and saving up my energy. I am only gonna burn 2500 calories before Saturday, yikes! I am pretty sure I will burn around 2000-2500 at the half marathon so I need to just save up the energy for that day. I am getting all excited!! Right now there is a chance of rain, so we will see. I have been experimenting with running with coffee in my system and none. My heartrate stays much better with no coffee in my system. I have a better run that way and a lot less out of breath. I took the advice from the Twofitchicks podcast. I get up eat a small banana and then go out and run. The banana is usually perfect for a morning run instead a full breakfast u have to wait 45-60 minutes to digest. I have photos from me standing with Scott last yr at this marathon. I weighed 208 in the pictures so I have lost 34 lbs so far from last yr. The comparison pics from last yr to this yr should be interesting.

Facebook is kinda crazy, everyone is on there. Which is not such a good thing. For some stupid reason I added my uncle. Who is calling my mom now and tells her about my status messages. I wonder if I can pretty much block everything he sees. It just really pisses me off he's telling my mom stuff that is almost trying to turn her against me. Don't make friends with your family, bad idea. I don't put anything bad about her but he acts like since she's not on facebook she is missing out on so much. If I can't call her in a week, she hears stuff about me thru him. Really annoying, family reunions, high school reunions, telephone books, what is the point anymore with facebook. You can find all new reasons to hate friends, classmates and family via facebook.

The body I am working to get back to. I doubt my stomach will ever be flat like this

I went to my 2nd job today and the girl I work with is quitting since she got a fulltime job. Which means I will be working alone with my boss. Which makes me wanna find a new job even more. I packed up books today for 5 hrs standing over a table. My back hurt so bad by the time I left. He's being really shady with the way he's paying me too. UGH what pisses me off is My other boss Brian knew what Rick was like when he tried getting me a job. I am just ready to get 1 job.

My food logging is still going well. Tomorrow makes 1 week I have been in my calories! Also burning calories is going good. I did water aerobics with Ty tonight for 2 hrs. I am exhausted and my eyes are failing me right now. Attempting to stay awake to see Scott when he gets off work. Rain must be coming, my joints are starting to bother me. I really need to run tomorrow morning! Supposedly running improves circulation and that sounds like a good thing for arthritis. Night night guys.

    Water aerobics for 2 hours was fabolous but OMG my whole body hurt last night...I couldnt believe it! i love water, you dont feel the burn until its done!

A day with my husband at last!

It was so nice spending time with Scott finally. I barbecued chicken, asparagus and red potatos while he was in class. Then we ate as soon as he got home and took the pups on a 2 mile walk around this lake. We got to watch the sun go down. It was so nice out there, plus the dogs are out cold now. Thanks Jen for showing me that park!

I am finally down a lb for the month. It has been a really rough month. Did the workshop, found out it was not for me, lost the possible swim class, lost my job, gained a job. My emotions are going crazy. Oh I gotta tell you guys something funny. I was asking Scott what he does when he gets stressed out. Does he ever emotionally just start cramming food in his mouth? He told me he reads a scifi books, because that gives him an escape into an unreal world. I cram cake in my face and he reads scifi. Very interesting! At least I know now that when he reads scifi books something is wrong. You guys should ask your men and see what they say lol It's funny how everyone copes.

I think I have an ultimate goal now. I want to confidently run outside with human being in a sports bra. Just like wearing a bikini, anyone can do it. Doing it and making other human being think"ouch keep your clothes on" is another story. So yeah that is my ultimate goal. Run in a sports bra and I have the confidence to know ppl arent cringing lol That will be when I wear a bikini as well. Oh I finally measured today. My hips stayed the same, lost 1 inch off my waist and .5 inch off my neck! I havent lost any neck in awhile lol

I have made a deal with myself to stay in my calories until April 31st. That is the night I have to carbload for the half marathon. I can do it!!!

Finally feeling back on track!

Today will be my 4th day in my calories! I am doing it I am finally back on the wagon! My weight is showing for it too! I got back down to 175 today, yay! It sucks that you can fall off anytime but I am done falling off. I am ready to stay up there! I rode my bike to work today and yesterday. Burns about 300 calories total to ride back and forth and only adds about 10 minutes to my driving time. Plus I get cool chain tattoos! Today I did my last longest run which was 4.5 miles. Sometime this week I need to do another 4 mile and then its very short runs from there.

It's been a lonely weekend. Scott has been going to work when I get off and gets home when I am ready for bed. Tomorrow neither of us work so I will be able to see him in between his classes and have dinner together. Eating dinner with him helps so much to stay on track. Then we actually have a real dinner with 2 sides veggies and a main dish. When I am home alone I eat stupid crap for dinner like a can of soup and a bagel lol Which drives my sodium up like no other!

I got back from pilates tonight and I had a missed call on my phone from my dad. Turned out they came in town for an antique show and ended up eating out and tried seeing if i wanted to come. They hit a bunch of antique shops but couldnt come to my work to say hi? Oh well I needed to go to pilates anyway. My parents only travel for two things antiques and food. If they come into town they don't come to my house, they meet me at a restraunt. Food=love apparently.

Have you guys seen the book "Stuff White People Like?" It is so funny! There was a section about Marathons. "If you find yourself in a situation where a white person is talking about their marathon you must be impressed or you will loose favor with you immediately. Running for a certain length of time on a specific day is a very important thing to a white person and should not be demeaned" Scarves is funny too " White peoples body temperature do not operate on logical or consistent principles and because of this white people are often forced to wear clothing combination that may seem strange or illogical. One popular example is the performance vest, which solves the age old problem of cold chest/hot arms." I got 3 books from work yesterday lol I hope Brian keeps giving me a discount even tho he's letting me go. Such a bummer, I really like working there. A woman commended me today on knowing where everything was. 2 weeks left emoticon

I really really really hate this economy. I feel like I have been looking for a permanent job for almost a yr now. All I find is a lot of part time jobs that don't last long. All the fulltime jobs have tons of ppl applying for them all as qualified as you. I continue to keep looking. My boss was saying that when he went to Paris all these ppl had their own little shops selling stuff they enjoyed. They all have free healthcare in their country. Here ppl stay in jobs they hate til they die for the benefits. Pretty sad. I can't even find the job of the future I will dread walking into and decay at.

    Hang in there, something will turn up. I'm sorry he's letting you go already, that's actually pretty insane because 2 weeks ago you were working lots! Strange. Anyway the economy here is better than elsewhere so you will find something.

I'm so proud of you for getting back on your food! It's very easy to slip esp. when you are eating alone. I also eat better when I'm cooking for everyone. Keep planning ahead and you will keep seeing results. :)

    good job on the streak! i know what u mean about eating more balanced when ur husband is there. yesterday my bf worked the entire day and alllll i did was snack snack snack... no real meals! then i felt starving and unsatisfied later that night. ugh. hope u have a great week!

    I hear you about the job situation. I think it is worse in our area - the rust belt. We experience down turns first and are last to recover.

I made my calories too but need to get in more exercise.

I hated when Benny and worked opposite shifts. I don't eat right when I am alone either. I never want to fix a healthy meal for just me.

My dad always wanted to meed in town at Applebees. It must be a parent thing.

    Brilliant so nice to see you're getting back on track, I knew it would only be a blip on your incredible weight loss journey...
Just a thought did you try saying to your parents "why didn't you pop into my work" they might of thought it was unacceptable to do so, having said that talking to my mum is like talking to a brick wall.
Keep plugging away where jobs are concerned, I know it's hard but each different job you have gives you more experience at different situations and I'm sure will lead to the perfect job for you. Will the new bill being bought in my Obama on healthcare benefit you at all?? emoticon
