Photo Blog Day 2: Picture with the person closest to you

Wednesday, February 09, 2011

I would say this would have to be my mom. 55 lbs into my weightloss I felt so skinny that day HA! lol I always hated being in photos next to her. I always looked huge compared when she would tell me how huge she felt.

I gotta write about something else that has been haunting me for a few days. Saturday I was working and we sell chocolate croissants and you offer them to everyone when they are at the cash register about to pay. Well I offered them to this woman who was on the large side. At the last second she threw one in with her groceries. Then she said no never mind and put it back. I said "Sometimes you have to have some self control" AHHHHHH WHY DID I SAY THAT???? Yes you should have some self control cuz obviously you don't look like u have much. She shot me an ashamed glance. She probably thought I was the biggest jerk ever judging how her self control is. Honestly tho I was speaking for myself standing in front of chocolate croissants for 5 hrs. But in the process I think I hurt her feelings =(

She probably didn't even know the effort you put into looking the way you do. I really like the way your mom looks.

Oh girl, don't be so hard on yourself. No one can make us feel any one way. Situations arise that bring it out in us. We carry our own shame. I know though... we feel horrible when we accidentally say something hurtful. I am sure she got over it. BTW- I saw the said chocolate croissants while I was checking out tonight. I can not imagine having to stand there and talk about them all day without caving! Go you! :)

I can imagine how hard that is for you, especially for people who do not know you used to be there too. Sad. I know you didn't mean to hurt her feelings.

It happens...but maybe it's a good reminder for us all that sometimes people say things that they don't intend to hurt our feelings...here you were completely speaking to yourself, but she took it as you saying something to her because she'd have no idea that you had gone through your own journey...I wouldn't beat yourself up about it!

Don't let the comment get you down. I'd suggest that if you see her again, stopping to explain what you really meant and telling her about your journey :)

don't beat yourself up about that; sometimes we say stuff and kick ourselves for sticking our foot in our mouths. I don't know how you work with chocolate croissants all day and don't eat them all! now THAT is self control! :D

It's always tough when you feel bad for saying what you think. But the best thing to do is to forgive yourself and move on. You didn't mean her any harm, why keep harming yourself by feeling guilt?

Oops!! Hate when that happens! Yep, we've all done that... it's a lesson if nothing else. Even though you had no ill intentions, you will remember this and it will most likely be helpful to you in the future.
Kinda makes you wish you could turn back time... :)

You feel bad because you know SHE felt bad. Yeah it stinks but she's got her own journey in front of her. If you had said the same thing to me or someone else, they may have laughed. You didn't mean any harm so don't beat yourself up about it!

It does happen, but just remember why you said that. It wasn't to offend, it was to remark on your feelings. We have both been on the other side of that comment so we know how it feels, I hope you are able to try not feeling guilty about it.

When I go missing it's not usually a good sign

Tuesday, February 08, 2011

I have not written in 3 days and probably by most blogs that is really not a big deal. But i feel like when I stop writing blogs I am usually ashamed to be here. I tried taking some time off exercise last week. With the storm it was pretty easy to bypass the gym. But as usual if I don't workout i seem to eat more then usual and my weight just skyrockets. So here I am back again trying to stay in my calories. I read another blog where someone said with the new yr you think of all the new starts you can make and then it comes you get far into January and nothing changes. Now we are over a week into Feb and UGH. I am just rambling. I am gonna have another good day today like I did yesterday.

I am trying to pick out new vibrams to get. I was waiting until all the new designs came out but it seems like they are making more shoes for kicking stuff and hiking so the new designs don't help me in the running department. So I am going back and buying another pair of the shoes I already have. The colors suck though =( I think I am gonna get a mens pair cuz their colors are slightly better. Scott got a 25% coupon for a website we bought vibrams from in the past. So 65 dollars KSO's!

On a positive note Scott and I celebrate 7 yrs of being together today and I finished this AMAZING book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. I have never cried listening to an audio book but this will make you cry. I hope someone has read it. I need a person to talk about it with lol

Hey Girl! I finally got the Henrietta Lacks audiobook from the library. You were right! It is amazing! I am only two chapters in and am mesmerized. It is not the sort of book I would normally read, but I suspect that it is going to be a life-changing read. Thanks for recommending it!

Happy Anniversary!! Sounds like an excellent book - anything that causes such an emotional response must be powerful. Anyway sorry you've been having a rough time but I think that's exactly when you need to come here and lean on your Spark friends the most. We all have our times when we can be the cheerleader and other times we NEED a cheerleader. Winter's tough, especially if you deal with seasonal issues and live in a place that's especially cold/dark. It's okay to admit that it's rough on you - admitting that is often the best first step to getting over it.

Happy Seventh anniversary!!! That is so awesome you guys have been together that long! :-)
I'm sorry you don't feel like blogging or you've gone missing. Don't be ashamed! We all struggle. I'm struggling so bad right now. These classes have me stressed to the max. My only saving grace has been learning how to mend and repair books! It is so relaxing and meditative :-). I hope I can find a workout rhythm soon. Barb was telling me today about how when you would be recasing you would be talking away and then you'd put it together and it would look amazing :-)! She said she was always so impressed by that! We struggled a little with a recase I did today...silly endsheets! You have such a talent for repairing books...its too bad you don't have a chance to use it more!
Yay to new vibrams!!! That is an awesome steal! Have fun!
Glad to hear you finished that book! I will have to check that out when I have some free time :-).

Coasting

Saturday, February 05, 2011

I was so excited about that challange ride all day yesterday. Came home from work and took a nap and planned on being there early. I was out to leave at 5:10 to be there at 5:30 and then discovered it started at 5 UGHHHHHH! I was so angry with myself. I could have had fun burning 900 calories at something I signed up for 2 weeks ago and I missed it! I would have showed up late but there was about 6 ppl on a waitlist so I am sure it was full. This week was already sparse on cardio now it's super sparse. It's ok tho move on Julie there will be more challange rides!

Right now I am waiting to see if I need to go into work and replace this girl that's sick. I would normally not wanna go. But with all this snow I am really short on hrs this week and could really use her hrs. Plus my friend is getting married this yr in Washington and I need money to be there. Marathon is this yr. Need shoes. Need money lol Can't be shorted on hrs. Ok i am going in, he called. yay 5 hrs of work!

Man she kicked my butt!

Friday, February 04, 2011

A girl mumbled this when she held a door open for me last night while leaving the gym. All I could think was, Why? Why do you need someone else to kick u around in order for u to get cardio. That is not gonna last. I kicked my own ass last night and I am proud of it! I go to classes to have fun and interact with ppl not to get abused. I ran 2.5 miles last night on the treadmill after zumba and lifting UGH that was miserable. The treadmill and I are not friends, I wanna punch the treadmill in the face.

Tonight is a 90 minute spin challange ride at Gold's! Three spin teachers are leading it so this should be interesting. Two I really like and 1 i really really dislike. I hate when ppl are super nice but their teaching skills are very bad bad bad. Hopefully she wont be teaching much lol

Leaving town last weekend and being forced to not workout for the first 3 days the week was a nice break and reboot to my system. What sucks is I really wanna focus on my half marathon training and my only option is the treadmill. I was listening to Scott talk to his brother on the phone the other day telling him how he is just doing the Illinois Half Marathon this yr. He said "Yeah half's are nice, you really don't even have to train for them". PSH whatever! The Chicago Marathon opened up for registration 4 days ago and I am still really humming and hawing over it. So much in the past yr I have waited and waited to sign up for and then POOF too late all full! I just hate signing up for a marathon that costs 145 dollars (YES FREAKING WENT UP 20 DOLLARS SINCE LAST YR!!!ughhhh) in february when running 2.5 miles on a treadmill is awful. I did run 3 miles last week tho with Kate outside and I could have gone another 3 easily cuz it was just soooo nice to be outside. At the end of fall last yr I was running 20 miles a week. Really enjoying the hell out of my 5-6 mile runs. Avoiding running like the plague all winter cuz its treadmill or nothing at all is leaving me so clueless. I can't wait for spring. Everything feels so out of whack. Learning to finally embrace it and figuring out alternatives. But still working out at the gym 5-6 days a week does not give u any feelings close to what u find outside.

I know trying to work out this time of year is so challenging. the weather is unpredictable and it just throws everything off. Least you got in a workout over the weekend. I SO WISH I could have done 6 miles with you! That is my next big goal and this stupid toe injury is holding me back. I was reading about someone saying they trained for a marathon by doing pool running. Maybe that might be a change up from the treadmill. Well if you do the Chicago Marathon I think I will try my hardest to come cheer you on! It would be so amazing to see you accomplish something like that! You have come so far! I know you could do it! Keep up the awesome job! Ya you know how to kick your own butt everyday! You've got it down! :-)
You guys have such interesting classes at Golds. That spin challenge sounds fun.

I concur! Nothing like running outside. I swear by Yak Trax. LOVE mine. They really can bite the snow and ice, I am always amazed. Last Sunday I was able to map out just under 11 miles that I think will end up being my long running route. Two hours of heaven! If only the sun were shining... Anyway, I think the Trax were only like $20 or something. Really affordable, and they probably still have them at Dick's.

Can't even imagine feeling like I don't need to train for a HM. I hope it is valid confidence and not being cocky. Wouldn't want him to have an injury so early in the year!

Have fun at Spinning tonight! Happy Friday!

Oh yeah, kicking your own butt is the best!!

Yeah I've stopped running bigger races because the fees have gotten so ridiculous these last few years. Yet the small races in my town and nearby are just as cheap as ever AND I get to see all my favorite running buddies without paying for airfair or hotel.

I agree with everything you said about the treadmill vs being outside. I want to punch the treadmill too! Nothing compares to being outside and running. 145 for a race is ridiculous, but does it count as a tax deduction for a charitable contribution? :-) Gotta find the positive in all!
