Man she kicked my butt!

Friday, February 04, 2011

A girl mumbled this when she held a door open for me last night while leaving the gym. All I could think was, Why? Why do you need someone else to kick u around in order for u to get cardio. That is not gonna last. I kicked my own ass last night and I am proud of it! I go to classes to have fun and interact with ppl not to get abused. I ran 2.5 miles last night on the treadmill after zumba and lifting UGH that was miserable. The treadmill and I are not friends, I wanna punch the treadmill in the face.

Tonight is a 90 minute spin challange ride at Gold's! Three spin teachers are leading it so this should be interesting. Two I really like and 1 i really really dislike. I hate when ppl are super nice but their teaching skills are very bad bad bad. Hopefully she wont be teaching much lol

Leaving town last weekend and being forced to not workout for the first 3 days the week was a nice break and reboot to my system. What sucks is I really wanna focus on my half marathon training and my only option is the treadmill. I was listening to Scott talk to his brother on the phone the other day telling him how he is just doing the Illinois Half Marathon this yr. He said "Yeah half's are nice, you really don't even have to train for them". PSH whatever! The Chicago Marathon opened up for registration 4 days ago and I am still really humming and hawing over it. So much in the past yr I have waited and waited to sign up for and then POOF too late all full! I just hate signing up for a marathon that costs 145 dollars (YES FREAKING WENT UP 20 DOLLARS SINCE LAST YR!!!ughhhh) in february when running 2.5 miles on a treadmill is awful. I did run 3 miles last week tho with Kate outside and I could have gone another 3 easily cuz it was just soooo nice to be outside. At the end of fall last yr I was running 20 miles a week. Really enjoying the hell out of my 5-6 mile runs. Avoiding running like the plague all winter cuz its treadmill or nothing at all is leaving me so clueless. I can't wait for spring. Everything feels so out of whack. Learning to finally embrace it and figuring out alternatives. But still working out at the gym 5-6 days a week does not give u any feelings close to what u find outside.

I'm getting cabin fever really bad. I go for hikes outside but it's not fun in this snow.

I know trying to work out this time of year is so challenging. the weather is unpredictable and it just throws everything off. Least you got in a workout over the weekend. I SO WISH I could have done 6 miles with you! That is my next big goal and this stupid toe injury is holding me back. I was reading about someone saying they trained for a marathon by doing pool running. Maybe that might be a change up from the treadmill. Well if you do the Chicago Marathon I think I will try my hardest to come cheer you on! It would be so amazing to see you accomplish something like that! You have come so far! I know you could do it! Keep up the awesome job! Ya you know how to kick your own butt everyday! You've got it down! :-)
You guys have such interesting classes at Golds. That spin challenge sounds fun.

    I'm so withya! I can't wait for spring! :(

ANd I agree; kicking your own butt is much more rewarding than having someone else do it for you. ;)

I concur! Nothing like running outside. I swear by Yak Trax. LOVE mine. They really can bite the snow and ice, I am always amazed. Last Sunday I was able to map out just under 11 miles that I think will end up being my long running route. Two hours of heaven! If only the sun were shining... Anyway, I think the Trax were only like $20 or something. Really affordable, and they probably still have them at Dick's.

Can't even imagine feeling like I don't need to train for a HM. I hope it is valid confidence and not being cocky. Wouldn't want him to have an injury so early in the year!

Have fun at Spinning tonight! Happy Friday!

Oh yeah, kicking your own butt is the best!!

Yeah I've stopped running bigger races because the fees have gotten so ridiculous these last few years. Yet the small races in my town and nearby are just as cheap as ever AND I get to see all my favorite running buddies without paying for airfair or hotel.

I agree with everything you said about the treadmill vs being outside. I want to punch the treadmill too! Nothing compares to being outside and running. 145 for a race is ridiculous, but does it count as a tax deduction for a charitable contribution? :-) Gotta find the positive in all!

I am back from Southern IL and this Snow Storm

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

I had a nice weekend away and almost saw signs of spring actually but then that was crushed with our midwest snowathon. Last saturday I got to run 3 miles with my friend Kate, sooooo nice! We had a really nice time visiting my old boss and we marbled fabric for 5 hrs and drank wine Saturday night. The more I drank the better I got lol Pics from my trip.
Kate and I after our 3 mile run with our vibrams on, it was 54 that day!

With my old boss Barb

Kate's cute pugs

Some of our marbling

As soon as I got back from Carbondale ppl started freaking out about this snow storm coming. We ended up getting 13 inches of snow but also got high winds, sleet and thundersnow! I didn't work yesterday but I did work today. Our whole state was under a State of Emergency along with indiana and missouri. I picked my boss up today at an intersection to get her to work. After being in the house so much yesterday I was up for doing anything today lol

Downtown Bloomington at 9 am, total ghost town

At work this morning, only coworkers and neighbors showed up for coffee lol

Everyone was just walking on the roads

Ralph ran out the door and discovered he couldn't get around my car lol
Some tulips Scott bought me, it's spring somewhere in some glass building lol

Oh I also came home to a new laptop on Sunday. Scott has been so fed up with my laptop that he bought me a new one when I was on my trip. So I am using that now. Early 7 yr anniversary gift. Anyway only cardio i have gotten this week was shoveling Scott's truck out. I am dieing to return to the gym.Tomorrow I will be back in action and ugh i will feel so much better and my eating will be better. Today's eating good but its been bad not just bad but awful. I filled my house with good foods knowing this storm was coming. But instead I dug thru my cabinets and eat chips and worst crap I could find. My squirrel brain was stocking up for the miserable horrible winter we have had. I hope everyone is doing well and has power! Supposed to be -9 tonight =(

We got the ice in that storm - a silver thaw ice storm. I've been eating terrible and can's seem to stop.

I love the marbled fabric. How do you do that?
I'm glad you were safe and got home before that awful storm hit. We were supposed to get a lot here in North Central PA, but only got the ice and our winds were only around 30-35 mph.
Stay safe and warm!!!

Your vibrams are so cute :) Are they comfy? I know they're super popular.

All this snow has made me overeat! I was so stir crazy today and I just kept eating, ugh. I tracked it of course, but I def. over ate too much! :/ Ah well, it's about consistency not perfection, right???

Stay warm!! It's supposed to be freezing(literally) tonight! Damn IL!

Running away for the weekend!

Friday, January 28, 2011

I am off to Carbondale! I made Scott some man bread last night, aka beer bread. It was raw in the middle when the timer went off lol Scott had to keep cooking it last night in the oven. All the nasty beer I used burned off. I was kinda worried, I used a Steel Reserve EW! lol This morning I got up bright and early and started a loaf of Italian Herb French bread for my parents. I got a bunch of stuff I am gonna give my mom when I see her when she drives me to the train. She was getting stressed when I asked her to take me. She is no good at deadlines lol I was like, I gotta work til 2 and then drive 45 minutes to my mom. Don't stress I will just be there, ok? I enjoy growing up and seeing my parents from a different planet now. My mom liked my profile photo so much that she asked for a copy to be sent to Walgreens. Probably embarrassing the living crap out of me on a daily basis.

Ok I am off for a girly weekend with Kate, Amanda and Barb! Oh and I have a new weightloss Memior to read on the train. Cherry on the cake! And and and it's gonna be 46 in Carbondale and no snow?!?!?! I am gonna RUN OUTSIDE!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses up crappy booze by throwing it into food!! We've used cheap (OLD) beer in stews and cheap champagne if EXCELLENT in risotto. I hate being wasteful, so why not??

Day 3: Back to Calorie Counting again

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Yesterday went pretty well until I got back from grocery shopping at 9 pm. Then I kinda wanted to try everything I got that was new. I think I ended my day probably around 2200 calories. I need to make a chart for my fridge of food combinations. Like this, this and this make up a 400 calorie breakfast. This, this and this make up a 400 calorie lunch. These together make a 200 calorie snack. So ya things went well til late evening and I wasnt even hungry. I just wanted to eat because Scott was sitting next to me eating a whole damn bag of chips while we watched Ponyo. The chips are not a weakness to me. I hate winter, even my stick thin husband eats a lot in the winter.

So today I am tracking again to get my head back in a good place. I leave for Carbondale this weekend to see friends I havent seen in awhile. I probably wont be getting on a computer much while I am there for such a short period. Hopefully Scott feeds the munchkins. Then next week when I get back I am gonna do every other day not tracked. I am not giving up on this. There is room for improvement yet. I was reading an article yesterday about maintaining a good body weight through the winter. They said to write down your food in detail but just a few days a week. So that you know where your at.

I think the idea of having combinations in mind for calories without officially counting is a great step-down idea. I bet it gives peace of mind about counting in your head, but not officially on paper and planning in general is always a good idea. I hope you have a nice time away from home. And don't even get me started on winter...I cry a lot, overeat a lot, and just get lazy because it's always SO COLD so I don't wanna get out of my pjs or the warm bed in the morning. In fact I have a picture of a SUN in my office window for days like today when its nonexistent and one of those imitation-of-real-sunlight type office lamps. Oh man I'm a whole lotta wintertime interventions over here hahaha.

Let me know how it goes, tracking every second day. I'd imagine it keeps you aware of what you're doing without the obsessiveness that daily tracking can lead to. Enjoy your weekend away!
