New Year, New Focus, New Goals….

Well, our lives got a little out of control for quite awhile.

My DH and I are guardians of his youngest sister who is only a year younger than me and this past 8 weeks have been very tough on her. For me that means daily emails or phone calls with her staff and case worker as we try to get her back in synch, we were able to get her started with a counselor 3 weeks ago and while there has not been an immediate change in attitude or mood swings she has opened up and talked with the counselor.

As this has been going on I have cut my work hours down even more and am very happy about it. It makes for an easier day for my DH if I am home by 10:30 am as he still sometimes gets depressed or feeling guilty about his physical condition and that it means I have to work. I have to try to keep an average of 24 hours a week so our youngest DS has health insurance and that seems very doable right now.

Our family goal this year is to try to keep our focus on the God's blessings in our lives and not on what has gone wrong throughout the day. To help us keep that focus my project tonight is to decorate a jar for us to deposit slips of paper with each of the blessings, praises on it. We haven't decided yet how often we want to check it or if we just have it open so if we are feeling down we can pull out a slip or two to read to remind us of God's love and provision.

My personal goal is to reach 50,000 steps a week and check in at least every other day. Our internet has always been iffy and I wish the SP mobile App was more like FB App so I could check in from my phone.

Fall updates

Well, its been a few months since I have last blogged.... so I am well overdue.

My surgery in May went well, the cyst removed was larger than a softball and I had no complications.

My eldest DS was back from college in time to help my parents, my DH, and I with transportation, Awana and other things as well as find a summer job. He is now back in school and while I miss him and his help he is where God wants him to be.

My DH is now 3 1/2 years without hospitalization or ER visits, he can walk without his cane if he takes a long nap before or after and its not around other people (i.e. shopping, church, schools, etc) He has come a long way and I pray that he stays this steady for awhile.

My youngest DS has enjoyed his first ever season of football, he went from not knowing anything about it and playing second string to playing primary kick return and secondary defense tackle, offense guard. After having this experience with coaches watching and teaching every step of the way he's not sure he wants to return to track and field in the spring, he did shotput and discus. They were coached by kids 2 years older who admitted they weren't sure that they knew what they were doing and spent most of their practice time running. His first time practicing his actual event was the day before the only meet they had. :( not the best way to encourage them to stick with the program,

I still love working with Awana and have struggled this fall getting everything done in a timely matter as my work hours had increased but God provided the time we needed to get caught up and leaders who have stepped up to help without being asked. In Sunday School we are going through Experiencing God. I have enjoyed this study before and finding it just as relevant to where I am at today and the lessons are spot on.

    So glad I chose your blog today. I enjoyed hearing your DH is doing well and your DS was there for help. I too use to be an AWANA leader yrs ago. I loved it too. It is such a great ministry for children to learn Gods Word and His love for us. I am happy you have such a love for it. Have a wonderful Fall. hug sandy

Ramblings

So I am having an outpatient surgery in May and my DH is not very understanding as to why I haven't scheduled his physical yet which can be done after mid-May. Why am I not scheduling a get together with our Awana leaders in May, why am I not signing up for a day hike I normally do every year. I am not normally sick nor have I ever had an type of surgery before so I am trying to schedule our life on the cautious side...
*waited till eldest DS would be home from college to hopefully take care of transportation problems
*also coordinated with my mom so she can take me & my DH to my surgery then home again
*have informed my youngest DS teachers as PT conferences are the next day as well as Awana that I don't know if I can make either one
*coordinated with my church for Awana in case I don't make it
*have coodinated at work to ensure they knew it was coming up, I just was unsure of how long I'd be gone

My DH thinks I am being too cautious and I should keep scheduling as if I can drive the next day, I am torn because I know that following many of his procedures he couldn't drive for 72 hours after being put under and I don't want to schedule things that I may only have to cancel or really depend on someone else to cover. (his physicals take 90 minutes at least) . I have tried to explain but....

There really isn't a point to this blog over to type out where I am struggling in scheduling and my head, maybe visualizing will help. I do need to point out my DH isn't normally so self focused he has has many health issues in the past and this is the first time that I am comfortable and need to put my medical needs first.

How am I doing in reaching my goals?

I am:

averaging 7 hours of sleep a day emoticon

Getting 8 or more glasses of water in emoticon

Having daily quiet time emoticon

Sticking within my calorie range emoticon

Eating 5 or more serving of Freggies emoticon we have started making sure there is at least 3 different colors of Freggies on our plates for 2 meals a day... That's a fun challenge to encourage to try new... This week we have tried mangos & avocados.

Getting 45 minutes of exercise (10 of which is stretching) emoticon not quite there but close

This week has been a low exercise week due to back & knee pain so I apologize for the lack of exercise minutes. I hope that next week will be better after the rest I gave it this week.
