Holiday Season

Well, it's holiday season once again which means I typically have to wear my fat pants until January. Looking for any tips you have to keep the weight low. I'm going to calorie count and hit the gym as much as possible. No increase would be an improvement on the season ;)

    Don't deny..moderate...stretch out those yummies. But don't beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Dust yourself off, jog to catch up and hop back on.

    oh the holiday season. I too believe not gaining is the goal...but if you focus on losing, maybe it will come out even, at least thats my theory lol. calorie counting and going to the gym are of course excellent ways to keep it low during the season. I'm not going to deprive myself on specific days, e.g. thanksgiving, christmas, and new years themselves, but every other day I think its important to stay on track. It's so easy to slip up one day and say the heck with it, and let it go for the whole season. But if you know you can indulge ( a little) on the actual holidays you can look forward to that and save it for then. Also, SP has some guides about which holiday foods are really bad, say eggnog, if you can go the holiday season cutting back, or cutting out, some of the truly calorie-laden treats that might help. At parties, etc. pick one or two treats that you really want to try, rather than everything that may be there. i think its safe to say a lot of people are in the same boat as you, good luck!

Work Backwards

I lost 50lbs to reach my goal weight of 148. I reached that goal in 2009. I am now back up to 159. I was at 167 over a week ago.

I have a lot of fears of moving backwards. I've worked so hard to get here. I hope to tell my future self to NOT GIVE UP!

Now my goal is to get back down to my original weight and hopefully stay under 150!

So, I've been eating a lot lately. I started a new job and thus have gained ten pounds since it's in an office.

I work right next to my gym, do I go there? No.

Goal--->Go to gym next door, stop eating so much candy and fast food.

  Go to the gym before work if possible. a good workout early in the morning will reduce the food cravings. If you exercise and do strength training, you will have a higher metabolism and more muscles. This will allow you to eat more (healthy foods) not candy bars without gaining weight.

Bittersweet

You know those looks you get when you're overweight and someone feels bad for you. When they feel bad that you can't shop in the same places as them. That you probably shouldn't eat that donut because they OBVIOUSLY know more than you because they're thin.

I find myself giving those looks now. It hurts my heart. But I've realized something. We AREN'T meant to be excessively overweight. We just aren't. We should eat and enjoy food but we do have the power to take care of our bodies and make good choices. Those looks aren't as condescending as I use to assume they were. They're more like heartfelt sadness for someone because you know how happy they could be if they would just take the initiative.

It's a cruel world we live in. If you're overweight after all you've done then you DO have an excuse. If you're not making effort...then you don't.

Well over a year ago I started on Spark People. I realized that "diets" wouldn't get me anywhere and I needed to do something about my life, weight wise that is.

So I set out to cut the calories.

I lost 20 pounds.

Gained it back.

Then I graduated college and lost it again. Then I lost more.

Now I am more than halfway past my goal. From 203lbs in 2/2008 to 172lbs in 4/2009.

It has taken a very long time. However, recently I am truly seeing the benefits of being healthy and beautiful. The attention (positive and negative) from men and co-workers towards my beauty, and the overwhelming knowledge that I will NEVER be that person I once was.

I hope if you're reading this that you know that food is your friend. It is something good. As long as you use it for hunger and nothing more than you can be happy. Exercise and embrace life! It's worth the moments you might miss if you're stuck in a body that isn't yours.
