Perspective

Sunday, April 15, 2012

I was looking for something to watch on Netflix the other day, and I found "Rory O'Shea Was Here". This movie is about two young men, one with cerebral palsy, and one with muscular dystrophy, who become friends and fight to live beyond their physical limitations. It was inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time.

We need to question ourselves when we say "I can't" or "I'm not strong enough". Is that really true? Maybe, maybe not. The mind is a powerful thing. If we can change our mindset, we can open ourselves to new possibilities.

In the last year I've had the pleasure of being taught this lesson in real life. I've become friends with a guy who lost an arm in 1998. After losing his arm, he took up mountain biking and has raced 24 hour mountain bike races and, how I met him, started racing cyclocross last year. It's not that he races, it's that he his quite good. Perspective.

Couldn't agree with you more. Sometimes the biggest hurdle is our own mental state of mind.

Yes, agree. It puts your own life into a different perspective when you see what others can achieve despite the odds not necessarily being in their favor. We can achieve anything that our mind believes we can.

I met elderly people with no legs whom use all their upper body power to pull themselfs from wheelchair over to their toilet many times daily.. I think many people don't realise how pitiful they sound.. My clients one goal is to keep being independant as they are now in own home, they don't think self pity and are just doing life they refuse to give up they appreciate what they have lost and are preserving what they still have....
