My Day 01.4.14

Saturday, January 04, 2014

Today, I got up to my sister calling. We are both trying to lose our weight and keep our kids healthy. We decided to go grocery shopping together and grab some lunch. Cracker Barrel was our restaurant of choice...I got the grilled cheese off of the kids menu with a side of broccoli and a sweet tea. She got chicken and rice and a sweet tea. I think we did pretty good.
Then off to Walmart...I now know why I started shopping Food Lion. What I would have normally spent $170-$175 on, I spent $250. Food Lion for sure next week!
We got some good stuff though...I got some lowfat yogurt for myself and my kiddos to snack on instead of chips and check this out...NO SODA! How awesome is that?!?! I got a case of water. Also got lots and lots of chicken and some stuff to make some yummy salads this week.
Tomorrow starts my challenge with my Done Girls so I want to see how I will do!

My goals for the upcoming year :)

Monday, December 30, 2013

I don't do resolutions...Every time I have, they turn in to something that I hate doing so I fail. So, I am doing goals...Goal is such a positive word and it makes me want to accomplish what I need to do to get to that word!
So here goes:
1. Drink more and more water until I reach my goal of 8 glasses a day and cut out most soda.

2. Walk at least 4-5 miles a week at first, and then walk more gradually as I go on.

3. Get rid of 25lbs by June. I'm starting small. Then another 25 by next December.

4. Pay off some of my debt and make smarter financial choices...This will lead up to me getting my good credit back and one day owning my own home.

5. Read daily to my kiddos...I used to do this a few years ago and as a result I have an 8 year old who started reading at 2 and a 6 year old who everyone refers to as "Baby Sheldon" (Big Bang Theory). I want my 5 year old, 2 year old, and 4 month old to love reading as much as I do also!

6. I will get out of the bed at a decent hour with a smile on my face, get dressed, and fix myself up daily. I have gotten out of the habit of this and I notice that I feel good about myself when I feel like I look good.

7. I will paint my nails...because its something I love to do for myself and have gotten out of the habit of that due to always cleaning.

8. I will clean my home with a smile on my face...It's my way of showing my honey that I am appreciative of him going to work and providing for our family.

9. I will start gardening again...because I love to do it.

I think I will stop here...I really want to go back to school but our future is uncertain here in my hometown since Shawn may be getting a promotion and we may be moving back to the beach :)

These all sound great, but I think my favorite is #7. Painting your nails!

It's a silly, unnecessary thing, and it's easy to forget about... but it's such a fun and easy change! I never used to, but once I got into the habit I found it was a great pick-me-up. Whenever I get out of the habit, I find all other habits are close behind.

These are absolutely GREAT goals!!! And do you know why? Because they are reasonable & attainable!!! Putting dates on your goals is a SUPERB way of ensuring that you meet them. Now, you just have to set reminders (which you can do here on SPARK or maybe on your phone or if you're old school like me, you can do on an old-fashioned calendar! :)) so you can "check in" with yourself.

Put the steps in place to ensure success. You have to have building blocks. Baby-steps I like to call them. You don't just wake up one day & walk 10 miles. You build up to walking 10 miles.

And reading to your kids is SO amazingly important. Raising readers is one way of not only ensuring academic success but also raising kids who LOVE learning! Congrats for making your kids feel so loved & important in this VERY special way!

Gardening will be another awesome thing on SO many levels. Your kids will learn something extremely productive. You can lower your grocery bills. You can go from garden to table which means you'll be eating SUPER fresh food!!! I applaud this choice of yours & since you enjoy it...ALL the better!!!

GREAT job!!!

Christmas :)

Thursday, December 26, 2013

On 12/23, I was supposed to get up and make a gingerbread house, bake gingerbread cookies with my kids, and clean the house. I ended up on the couch the entire day in pain with food poisoning (my sister keeps saying virus, I say food poisoning since Shawn and I were the only 2 that got sick in our household of 7). It was nasty!
On Christmas Eve, I felt a little bit better but still had the nasty stomach cramps. Shawn got worse. I packed up the kids and went to my sisters for our annual Christmas Eve dinner and opening presents up with the grandparents/aunts/uncles/and cousins.
I had fun. Then I got the kids home, we opened up the pj's for Christmas and I got them to bed.
I cleaned as much as I could and ran out to my grandmas after the kids went to sleep to get their bikes from Santa.
When I got back, Shawn and I decided to go ahead and open our gifts to each other...The kids and I got Shawn a new XBox (we had to sell his earlier this year due to financial struggle when I was pregnant), a shop vac, Fast and Furious 6, Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, a clippers set (for his beard and moustache, and a nice sweater.
Shawn got me my dream vacuum...my Hoover Floormate! Yes!!! I also got a Taylor Swift perfume set, and new makeup and nail polish from my kids.
My ex (my older 3's dad) made the 2 hour trip and was at my house on Christmas Day at 8am to watch the kids open up their gifts. He also brought other gifts too. After, the older 3 went with their dad home for a couple days. They will be home tomorrow.
After they left, I then took the 2 younger boys and went to my great grandparents homestead to have Christmas with all of my great aunts and uncles and cousins of my dads side. Shawn was still down for the count with food poisoning!
I did get to skype with my mom since she is in Tennessee and I am in Virginia.
I had a great Christmas!

I am looking forward to the new year and what it will bring!
