Souping it up, Smoothing it down.

Trying to incorporate more fruits and veggies is always a challenge. Not because I don't like them, I do. It's just the washing and the cutting and the peeling and being consistent about making the time to have good stuff ready to eat. My Sparkfriend, STLRZGRRL is on a smoothie a day kick and she's got me motivated to have a smoothie a day too. An easy way to get a lot fiber and color in a delicious way. I'm replacing one meal a day with a healthy smoothie.

Another Sparkfriend, CEELEE53 takes a day and makes batches of different soups in advance and freezes them to pull out later. Another great way to pack a punch of nutrients. So, today, I made two soups A chicken, veggie with orzo soup and potato leek. Yes, it took a while but, well worth it.

I also washed a bunch of Romain and other salad fixings also, fruits to snack on. My fridge stocked with the good stuff and I plan to keep this up.

As a side note, I finally updated my ticker today. I gained ten pounds over this past winter and thought I'd lose it right after it warmed up ( happens almost every year). The good news is, I am already down TWO POUNDS from my ten pound gain!

Souping it up and smoothing it on down....never let good advise go to waste!

    I eat 4 fruits a day, but I have only eaten tomatoes for a veggie for too long. You're inspiring me to stop acting like a spoiled child. emoticon

    Great soups. I love soup. I eat 3 meals a week of soups.
Congrats on loosing the 2 lbs. It helps on your journey & keeps you motivated.

The Larger Cosmos Is At Work Here

The larger Cosmos is at work here. We need to keep our inner cosmos on track to appreciate that. In other words, keep it all in perspective. Sometimes it's hard work to look for the positives when a rain of negatives is pelting our protective self.

Now is not the time to hunker down and cover our collective heads. It's not the time to eat a donut. Go out, take a walk in a beautiful place. Dig in the dirt and make something grow. Watch children play. Do something wondrous in the here and now. Feed your soul instead of your appetite.

    I've been reading The Art of Happiness by The Dalai Lama - "Whenever possible be kind. It's always possible." How CAN he hit the nail on the head every time - so succintly? "Compassion and happiness go hand-in-hand." That was a paraphase - I know he's says it better, but whatever he said, it's right.

    We had hail that knocked over my irises, but after I put some supports around them for them to lean on, they're back up and beautiful. A lesson for all of us. We need a little help sometimes.

    Don't forget to feed the PLANTS while you're at it...

My little bitty tomato seedlings nearly got washed OUT in the big rains Sunday night. I left the poor things out in all of it...

But... as a little reminder from the cosmos... the sun came back out... and after yesterday's sunshine dousing... they seem no worse for their wear...

We can all take a lesson, eh?

A Key West Tale

I am not a spooky person by nature but, I have been presented from time to time with experiences beyond my own reasonable explanation. Staying in Key West, it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume that sooner or later, I would encounter something otherworldly among the historic clapboard buildings and cobbled streets. I had such an encounter at Heron House Court, a lovely Bed and Breakfast establishment on a sleepy street near the Seaport.

Late one night, after a day of biking and touring this fascinating city, I sat in bed, absorbed in a good book. My husband had drifted off, I assume, since he was curled up with a pillow facing the wall. Without warning, I felt the mattress move as though somebody was jumping up and down on the bed...... I turned to my dear hubby to tell him to knock it off, thinking he was really awake and trying to get my nose out of the book. He had not moved and was in fact, snoring and sound asleep to my left. Whoever or whatever had been moving on the bed was at my feet. This led me to presume that someone other than my husband was trying to get my attention. Did we have company? Chills!

I think I could have dismissed this incident, if not for the fact that it happened more than once. Oh, and the light blinked on and off in the bathroom a couple of time as well. Each incident, I had a distinct feeling that something was benignly, messing with me. I wasn't EXACTLY scared but, it was strange to say the least.

Our friends, staying in another room had the the bathroom door slam on it's own accord a couple of times and an peculiar feeling of an extra occupant. Perhaps, waiting impatiently to use the facilities?

We asked our host, Roman if he had heard rumors of any ghostly phenomena and he relayed that a past housekeeper had some unsettling encounters. She didn't remain working there long.

We did try to capture on film what may have been spooking us during our stay at Heron House Court. The photos below are the best we could produce.

Slowing Down To Zero

My speedometer is stuck on zero. Oh, I have a good enough excuse....having a bad episode with my asthma which, is pretty unusual. For the last two weeks I have felt like crap.

At first, I still pushed myself to exercise but finally, I slowed down to zero. Actually took off off work for four days....don't remember the last time I allowed myself to do that. The good news is that I haven't had much of an appetite either so, I am not gaining. Just stuck with that same 9-10 winter pounds that I gain and lose each year. The ones I refused to add to my tracker, thinking I'd get them off as soon as the weather broke.

I did a little bit of cardio yesterday and today so, hopefully I will get back into the swing of things soon. It's too nice to be inside stuck on the couch.

Zozo's Challenge

My new friend, ZoZo has challenged me to get back with the program. Step up my routine once again and lose these holiday add ons. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.........this is how I did this week.
