Change Does A Body Good!

Monday, October 15, 2012

I have changed a lot of things over the years....I no longer drink pop, stay away from commercially baked products and prepared foods, use whole grains, eat more veggies and fruits, rarely eat fast food and get regular exercise.

The result is that I am healthier than I've been in years. I rarely get sick, don't have high blood pressure, cholesterol numbers have improved considerably, my allergies and asthma are minor issues. I have my aches and pains from old injuries but, even that is reduced due to these positive lifestyle changes. My body does not want to let go of the extra pounds but, I can live with that.

Change has done my body GOOD!

I've been using Spark since May of 2007. After tracking my calories for 11 days, I've lost 2 1/2 of the 3 1/2 pounds I gained while I wasn't tracking. It takes a little time, but it seems to be the only way I can keep the weight off. I follow my own guidelines of no fast food, no sweets, no pop without too many temptations, but knowing when I'm full is difficult for me. I like to eat when I'm bored, to celebrate, etc. Tracking helps me know that I've had enough. I'm starting to accept that taking the time to track may have to be a part of life for me.

Your blog was what I needed to read this morning. I have changed in a similar manner and do feel good even though I haven't lost any weight for the last year. At my age, being healthy is probably a better goal. Thanks for reminding me of how far I've come.

What the Republicans are saying.

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

It's all about the economy and blaming President Obama for the mess that the Bush administration created and the house Republicans worsened by their obfuscation of the facts and obstruction of anything the President tried to accomplish. They have created fear and division in their quest to make President Obama seem like an alien presence, hell bent on stealing America from "Real Americans".

As a REAL AMERICAN, I resent that the Republicans have wasted so much time and energy demonizing the President, questioning his birthright, his faith, his political principles and his motives for every step he has taken. Instead of working for the collective us, the Republicans have worked against the collective us. They have fed the rightwing monster and teabag traitors who promote such divisive political drama.

After the tragedy of 9/11 there was a unity of purpose in our country that is sadly lacking, today. The election of President Obama in 2004 presented a new chance to lift us and yes, give us hope. This centrist President has made much more progress than he's given credit for, despite the politics of obstruction from the Republicans. From equal rights to equal pay, from health care to welfare, from a recovering economy to regaining our prosperity AND the demise of Bin Laden......We ARE better off today than we were four years ago.

I DREAD thinking where we'd be with McCain and Palin and I do NOT believe that Romney and Ryan will lift ALL of us into prosperity. They offer no specifics and no answers. I think they take care of their own. They have not made their case for unity and prosperity for all.

I want a President that will lead all of us. I want that unity of purpose to see all of us empowered to achieve our goals. I don't want to be trickled on.....I want float on an ocean of possibility. We are a great country and we can be even better not by stepping on one another but, by working together.

I will be voting to re-elect President Obama. He is the best hope for ALL OF US.

Living in Illinois, I have watched President Obama's earliest forays into politics. He impressed me from the start with his common sense and moderate, reasoned take on solving the problems that we face.

I am not disappointed with his performance. It's not hard to see that he looks at the big picture and will serve again in our best interests.

He has my vote and my confidence.

Thank you for reminding me that people I only know through our mutual efforts to lose weight would be people I would like for others reasons as well. Although I'm serving a Democratic precinct committee person, you are much better at expressing why people should vote for President Obama. Keep on talking to everyone about it. He's going to need all of our help to stay in office.

Oh, so true! 9/11 tragedy that drew us all together was totally wasted on the Bush administration! Instead of building us up, the Republican machine ground us down into fear and trepidation. Hence we, and the Congress, were ripe fodder for a totally unrelated Iraq war! What was God thinking when he let that Machiavellian Cheney loose on the country!!! (I don't really believe that God is into manipulation of our affairs.) Bush was just a puppet who prayed AFTER the horrible decisions. More like thanking God for the great minds around him when he was clueless. Have enough people learned their lesson from this so that we don't elect a president who is hot to trot into Iran and spend billions of our taxes on a devastating war? (Nuclear war?)

I agree with you. All their bluster about "real Americans."

Teachers are real Americans, too.
Firemen and police officers are real Americans.

Remember Romeny: "We don't need more fireman, more policeman, more teachers...Itís time for us to cut back on government and help the American people."

What he means is it's time to cut back on helping people and give tax breaks to the wealthy.

That's the thing right there...Romney doesn't think. He can't think for himself. he just mouths what his handlers (Rove and others) spoon feed him.

Thanks for making this post. Sometimes it's just refreshing to read a like minded person's view points. I don't like everything Obama has done, but in no way is Romney our future and after his comments following the bombing in Libya, I can hardly believe what kind of a human being he is! Take care!

It's a beautiful day.....

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

so much like that day, 11 years ago. Cloudless skies and sunshine. When the horror started the skies did not change. We stared in disbelief and shock, willing the day to return to the peaceful serenity of just a few hours past. All day and into the afternoon, the sky remained a crystal blue as though in defiance of the heartless attack on humanity that occurred on that beautiful day.

We honor and remember the brave souls of 9/11, every day...but especially on a beautiful day like today.

Peace to all who seek it. The rest can go to hell.

I don't know that I was really trying to be funny but, I'm such a smarta$$.....guess in a way, it is funny. It's certainly my mantra.

On a more serious note..... I really do feel that if we let the Republicans get back in office, their arrogance will lead to more war and tragedy....like 9/11.

Peace back at ya!

Wealth

Tuesday, September 04, 2012

The very wealthy accumulate wealth.

The middle class creates it.

The poor will spend it if they have it.

From the bottom up, everyone is lifted, everyone benefits. Trickle down doesn't get to the bottom and doesn't spread evenly along the middle. It keeps the rich on top, resting on the rest of us.

At Peace

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Our kids have friends that come and go,
some that we will hardly know.
And once in a great while,
one will charm you with a smile.
They leave their mark,
on your heart....even after they are gone.

Rest in peace, young friend.

What a difficult time for your son. My daughter who is 26 has lost friends, yet as old as I am, none of my close friends have died. I will say a prayer for him and for his friend's family. Take care--
