I gained .8 - I'm a little disappointed, but I did have a long weekend and some bad choices. I'm back at it with the tracking, so no worries!
Since I signed up for my first 5K race since May of last year, I decided yesterday to try running a 5K and see how it goes. I've really only been doing "timed" runs and not really keeping up with distance. I dropped DD#1 off at work, picked up DD#2 up from a "study session" with friends and went to the park. DD#2 wanted to run on the "hills" and I wanted to run on the greenway (which is the location of the 5K on Saturday). I dropped her off at the gym to change and then she was going to run and then go back in the gym to shoot some baskets. DH was already on the greenway running and DD#3 was riding her bike.
I'm really pleased with my time. I did the 3.1 miles in 38:09. I was hoping for anything under 40 mins.! I ran 20 mins. straight and that was a struggle. DD#2 started texting me that the gym was reserved and she was going to walk to the greenway and DD#3 kept circling me with her bike, so I think they slowed me down a little!
I feel ready for the race on Saturday. I'm still hoping for anything under 40 mins. because I usually get kind of "psyched out" during races. I think I try to keep up with everyone at the beginning and can't get a good pace. My time always seems a little slower than what I'm currently running.
I'm going to do a work-out DVD tonight and then run tomorrow with DD#2. We'll probably have to run on the indoor track because it's supposed to start raining and we probably won't be able to go until after 5:30, so it might get dark on us. It's supposed to rain Thur-Sat afternoon, so the race will probably be wet. I blew this same race off last year because of rain!
Picture of DH with the twin babies! Not a very flattering picture of DH, but the twins look cute!

I ate a lot of crap! I also have to admit that I didn't track. It's not how much I ate, it's what I ate! I did get in some exercise though.
We left for Florida 6:30 am on Friday. We stopped around 10:00 at the Cracker Barrel (family favorite on trips!). I didn't do too bad. I had 2 scrambled eggs and wheat toast. It was Friday (no meat), so I gave my turkey sausage to DH (he's not Catholic).
By the time we got to the hotel and checked in, it was after 2:00. DH saw a park near the hotel that he wanted to check out to run. DD#1 & 3 stayed at the hotel and DH, DD#2 and I went to the park to run. We were in the west coast of Florida that has Gulf beaches, but is mostly rivers, marshes and canals out to the Gulf. The trail was really pretty, but not really conducive to running. It was mostly boardwalk (that was kind of slippery) and trails that had a lot of roots. Anyway, we looked at the map and determined if we looped 3 times, we would get in about 3 miles. Of course DH and DD#2 went ahead of me. The trails weren't marked and everything looked the same, so I ended up getting lost! Instead of working my way back to the boardwalk to loop again, I ended up in a backyard! I figured I had gone the wrong way after I ran about 15 mins. (I was proud that I ran straight for 15 mins.!). I didn't want to keep mindlessly running, so I walked briskly and tried to backtrack. I knew the water would be where the sun was setting and would be on my right, so I wasn't too concerned. I also knew that if I had kept going through the "yard", I would have ended back up on the main road. Anyway, I saw DD#2 and she led me back the right way. DH got lost too and he ended up on the main road. DD#2 said she just guessed at the right path! They continued to "loop", but I stayed mostly on the boardwalk so I wouldn't get lost again. I'm not sure if I got in 3 miles, but I did run/walk for 40 mins.
We got back to the hotel and had to shower and get ready to visit with DH's brother. His daughter and the twin babies were going to meet with us the next day. We didn't have lunch that day, but we stopped by a local seafood restaurant and got takeout for dinner. The choices were pretty limited and I ended up having a fish sandwich (fried!) and coleslaw. I didn't eat any of the french fries and only a couple of the hush puppies (I was so hungry by that time)!
Saturday morning we had breakfast at the hotel. They had some really great choices, so I did pretty good. We met BIL at another park near his house that has a beach and a lot of boardwalks and we did a lot of walking. We apparently brought in the cold weather with us because it was high 70's on Friday and the rest of the weekend was high 50's (maybe 60, but really windy)! and they had freeze warnings Saturday & Sunday night.
SIL had a really nice lunch spread with deli meat, salads, fruit, etc. After lunch the girls and I walked to a craft festival taking place in their little town square. It was a 1 mile walk round trip, so more walking! We spent most of the day holding babies!
Since we had a late lunch, the girls were hungry when we left BIL's house (it was after 8), so we stopped at Wendy's. I wasn't really hungry, but I had a Frosty milkshake!
We met a friend of mine that lives in the area for an early lunch on Sunday, so we didn't eat breakfast. I had a salad, so that was good! We headed out to BIL's house again for more visiting and holding babies! It was still cold, but the wind had died down, so BIL brought out the canoe (he lives on a canal) and we all took turns canoeing. SIL had another lunch spread, so I ate around 3:00. We left late and again the girls were hungry. DH picked them up a pizza, but I didn't eat any. I had a cheese stick and yogurt later after I ran (and some of DH's microwave popcorn).
DD#2 and I didn't run with DH on the "dreadmill" Sunday morning, so we decided to run Sunday evening. I haven't run on a treadmill in years, so I had a little trouble with all the settings. DH & DD#2 found it really boring, but I guess I was fiddling with the buttons, etc. and it didn't seem too bad. I ran/walked about 31 mins. (some people were standing at the door so we figured they wanted to use the treadmills) and I got in over 2 miles. I know I can run faster than a 15 min. mile, so I'm not sure how much was considered "walking" and how much was "running". Anyway, at least it was 30+ of exercise.
We left for home early yesterday morning. We stopped at Cracker Barrel again yesterday for a late breakfast. I was really hungry since I didn't really eat dinner and it was already after 10, so my choices weren't that great (can you say Mama's Pancake breakfast!). It was after 2 again when we got home. After carrying in all the luggage and starting a load of laundry, I fell asleep on the couch for 2hours! I was able to scrape together some stuff for a salad last night, but ate some Girl Scout cookies!
I had cereal this morning and didn't have anything to pack for lunch, so I'll go to Subway. DH is off today, so he'll go to the grocery store and load back up on "good stuff"!
I did sign up for the 5K on Saturday! DD#2 is going to do it with me. I'm in no way ready to run the entire time, but I should finish ok. We're going to run again tonight, I'll do my workout tape tomorrow and run on Thursday. I'll probably do a quick mile run on Friday and be ready to go Saturday morning. It's supposed to rain, so we'll see how it goes.
I'll find out tomorrow how my long weekend effects the scale!

This morning was my "official" weigh day. I'm really pleased that I lost 2.6 lbs. for a total of 5.4 lbs. in 4 weeks. I exceeded my first month goal of 4 lbs. I'm shooting for 7.6 more by the end of April. That will put me 2 lbs. below my WW goal and some "wiggle" room. I'm back on track and will be back to "maintenance" in no time.
I really wasn't concerned after my dad's birthday dinner on Sunday, because as I mentioned before, I had plenty of activity and weekly points. My plan was to run on Monday, but DD#2 ended up going to a friend's house and working on a biology project and DD#1 wasn't feeling well. I fell asleep on the couch with just enough time to pick up DD#3's Girl Scout cookies and DD#2 from friend's house. So now I have over 70 boxes of cookies at my house!
DD#2 and I went to the indoor gym last night to run. I ran a mile straight, but it was really, really hard! I thought it would be easy since I was on the indoor track! I finished up with about 20 mins. of running and 8 mins. of walking. I finished up quickly because I had to take DD#2 to a orientation meeting for a Spring basketball league she's playing in. She was already in the gym shooting baskets when I finished and wanted to shoot a little more, so I rebounded for her for another 10 mins. We had to hurry home and change and get to the meeting. By the time it was over, it was 7:30 and we hadn't eaten yet. DD#2 wanted to go by Publix and pick up a King Cake for Fat Tuesday. I picked up some chicken for her and DD#3 and a pre-made salad for me. I didn't eat any of the King Cake!
I usually try to do something extra for Lent instead of "giving something up", but it kind of slipped up on me, so I'm not sure yet what I'll do. Our church has a lot of activities going on during Lent, so I really need to make time to participate in some of these.
I have to take DD#1 to work and pick up DD#2 from weight training. DD#3 has youth group at church, so I'll try to get my ashes when she goes. I'll also try to squeeze in a workout with my DVD.
We're leaving Friday morning for Florida to visit DH's niece that had twins in December. I haven't even thought about packing! DD#3 has a cookie booth tomorrow (yes more cookies!). DH is off tomorrow until Tuesday!!!, so he said he'll work the booth and I can pack and get the girls ready for the trip.
I'm going to take a bunch of bottled water and healthy snacks for the trip. Our room has a mini fridge, so I can keep stuff in there. DH said they have stores in Florida (hah!), but I know I'll do better if I already have it on hand. The hotel also has a full gym and it should be plenty warm to run outside too!
I feel kind of guilty because I still haven't signed up for the 5K on 2/23. Today is the last day for the $10 discount. You would think that would motivate me, but I guess I'm a little disappointed in my progress. I don't think I would be able to run the whole thing (which I usually don't do with 5K's anyway!), but I'm struggling with just a mile. I know I can finish it and probably with a pretty good time (under 40 mins.) with walking/jogging. I don't really have an excuse because we don't have anything planned that Saturday?! That's it, I'm signing up now! That will be my first "extra" for Lent. It's for a good cause and it's good for me!

Today is my Dad's 86th birthday! We went to an Italian restaurant last night to celebrate. My Dad is very fit and in shape, but boy can the man eat! He and my Mom both are very slim and have never struggled with their weight. My 2 sisters and I all have struggled with it at different times in our lives. I attribute most of the reason that they've managed to stay slim is lifestyle. Neither one had "desk jobs". My Dad worked in a warehouse and my Mom worked retail and of course they didn't have the fast food and excessive processed food we have now.
Anyway, I mentioned before that I planned for this outing. I had all of my WW "activity & weekly points" saved up and I used minimal points yesterday before dinner.
As usual, we over ordered! The dinner was served in big plates and was passed around the tables. We had a couple of really good salads, so I ate plenty of the salad, one piece of bread and tried to minimize my portions on the pasta dishes. I had a "sampling" of a couple of the dishes and a bite of one of the desserts. Overall I didn't do too bad. However, I'm feeling the effects today. I think the food was really too "rich for my taste". I felt kind of yucky last night and still feel kind of yucky. I drank plenty of water with dinner and am already on my second bottle at work! I'm trying to "flush" out the extra garlic & sodium.
Anyway, I peeked at the scale this morning and although it didn't show a gain from last Wednesday, it was up over a pound from the weight on Sunday morning. Sunday morning, I had already lost 2 lbs. from Wednesday! I certainly know that the scale fluctuates and that's one of the reasons not to weigh everyday. However, it was a good gauge for me. One night of excessive calories is not going to derail me! We'll see what Wednesday shows as far as the scale is concerned.
I did pretty good with exercise. I took Friday as a rest day, ran on Saturday and did a 30 min. DVD workout Sunday morning.
DH said he wanted to run after work on Saturday (he got off at 6). I told him I would wait and run with him. I thought I had a free morning on Saturday, but DD#1 freaked out because she was not able to get online to buy Fall Out Boy tickets on Saturday morning. I had to rush her to the Ticketmaster counter at Publix. Come to find out, they weren't selling the tickets "retail", only online. All her friends (and boyfriend) were able to get tickets and she was having a "melt down" in the car on the way back home feverishly trying to buy tickets on her phone (ah 17 year old girls!) She was trying to buy a ticket for herself and DD#2, so I told her since everyone else was able to get a ticket, she should try buying "one at a time". Of course she thought my idea was stupid and I didn't know what I was talking about, but she tried it and guess what?! She got a ticket and then was able to go back online and buy DD#2's! Catastrophe averted, but that wasted a lot of my morning .
Anyway after dropping her off work later, DD#3 off at a friends and DD#2 at the gym for her last bball game, I was glad I had decided to run later, because I had no time at that point! DD#2 lost their last game by 2 points! She played really well so she wasn't too disappointed. She's really turned into a very aggressive player and I've had several parents comment how much she's improved (this is the 3rd year playing with some girls). By the time we got home from the game, DH was home and we went to run.
It was already dark and we had about 30 mins. before the indoor track was closing, so we decided to run on the outdoor track with lights. I thought I would change it up a little and see if I could run a mile straight. I couldn't quite get a mile in, but I ran 10 mins. straight, then did about 5 reps of the 1 min walk/4 min run (I'm not sure about the exact number because I kind of lost count), but I got in about 35 mins.
I'm a little disappointed I couldn't run a mile! I've been using that 1 min. walk as a "life line". Anyway, DD#2 wants to run tonight. She's done with basketball at school and her spring instructional league doesn't start for a couple of weeks, so she wants to make sure she stays in shape. Works for me because it's more motivation. I'm going to shoot for the mile straight again tonight. We have to run indoors because it's supposed to rain until Thursday!
So I'll have another busy week. DH works nights through Thursday and we leave Friday morning to go to visit his niece (with twins) in Florida. I should be able to run twice before then and get in a DVD workout.
We'll see how the scale reacts on Wednesday!

it was hard and I'm sore! I got my Coach Nicole's Total Body Sculpting DVD yesterday. It was good timing because it was my cross-training day. I ran on Tuesday and again on Wednesday because it was such a nice day. DD#2 was really tired after her "whooping" on Tuesday and still sore from volleyball weight training, so she didn't want to run with me. I dropped DD#1 off at work and went to one of the greenway trails. We had a touch of "spring fever" and the park was packed. I had a really good run (1 min. walk/4 min. jog, 7x).
I don't want to jinx it, but I feel like I'm getting my "groove" back. I have through Tuesday with this rep. and then next Wednesday I start my 4th week of the 5 week plan (I did sort of repeat a week). The 4th week is to jog 35 straight minutes. I have 2 weeks before the 5K I'm running on 2/23, so this is pretty good timing.
So back to the DVD. I did the warm up, 19 min. dumbell routine & the cool down. The routine incorporated weights & arm & leg moves. I thought it would be pretty easy, but there were a lot of different moves, lots of lunges and I forgot how uncoordinated I am. I was able to keep up with the "intensity", but it was hard to keep up with moves. I really liked it though and I found her instructions easy and pleasant (not annoying like the other lady in the DVD I was doing). I'm looking forward to doing the other 2 routines.
After I finished up the DVD, I started to eat my dinner (a yummy stir fry) and DD#2 called. Her bball practice got cut short because the baseball team needed to use the gym because it was raining, so they got booted out (boys' sports always trumps girls', especially Freshman girls!). Anyway, since she only got about 30 mins. of practice, she wanted to go to the park's gym and run. Since I had to pick her up anyway, I decided I'd just walk at the track while she ran. She finished up her 2 miles quickly and the courts were empty, so we did about 30 mins. of shooting! So score for more exercise!
I'm enjoying entering my "activity points" in my Weight Watcher tracker. With WW, you can program it to use "activity points" before extra "weekly points". I never like to use the weekly points (although they are incorporated into the Plan), but feel I earned the "activity points". I have plenty earned for this weekend.
I hope to run either Saturday or Sunday and also do some of the DVD. DD#2 has her last game on Saturday and Sunday we're having a birthday dinner for my Dad. He'll be 86 years old on Monday. He is so active & healthy, we're truly blessed (although he is cranky!). We're going to an Italian restaurant that has "family style" dining, so good thing I have those extra points!
I also get to pick up Girl Scout cookies on Saturday. I "donated" my boxes to the military, but DH & the girls all bought some, so they'll be around the house. I also have to work 3 cookie booths the next couple of weeks with DD#3, but again, I feel like I have control.
I peeked at the scale and it looks like I've lost another lb.! I feel good about my progress and ready to "face" an upcoming party, Valentines Day candy, Girl Scout cookies and a long weekend trip next Friday to visit DH's niece in Florida that had twins back in December.
There will always be challenges, but hey, I've gota plan and I'm in control!
