I did ok after my first week "back to routine". I kept up with the exercise and was pleased with that progress. My eating was better, but I need to get back to a plan & tracking. I really haven't gone to the grocery store yet to stock up, so I've just been eating what's on hand (we always have fresh fruits & veggies, whole wheat, etc.) and I've managed to eat pretty healthy (if I can just stay away from the salty Scrabble Cheeseitz).

DD#2 didn't have practice on Monday so we went to the gym as soon as I got home from work. I thought my walk/run routine would be easier since I was back on a flat track, but it was still hard! I finished that up and then rebounded for DD#2 for about 20 mins. I did a resistance band workout last night. I tried to play the upper & lower body videos from Spark, but they kept "loading" so it was annoying. I ended up just doing what I could remember from those and part of the "seated" routine. I did about 20 mins., so I guess that's ok. I really need to find something consistent that I like with this, or I'll probably quit like I did with the dumbbell workouts!

My sister called me last night. She and my oldest sister were going to join the fitness classes that the county has at their different rec. centers. They live about 15 miles north of me, so they were going to go to one closer to their houses. My oldest sister decided not to join (her husband is cheap!), but DS#2 went ahead and signed up. I think she was trying to convince me to, but we just can't afford it right now and I really can't commit to go to a particular class with her (distance and my wonky schedule). I really would like to do a strength training, core class, but I guess I'll just have to stick to what I'm doing for now.

On a positive note, I did loose 2 lbs.! I figured I'd do pretty good the first week just getting back to routine and stop the crappy eating.

Tonight is a "rest" day on my running program, but I might do a resistance band workout. I have to get dinner started and DD#1 to work and then take DD#2 to Bball practice @ 7, so I will be pretty busy. DH is off from his "regular" job the next 3 days, but he started a side job today, so he's not sure what time he'll be home at night.

Tomorrow starts the first day of Week 2 of the running program. I'll have to do 1 min. walk & 4 min. run (6 times). I think I'm ready to advance to this. It's about the same time, just a little more running! DD#2 has am practice on Thursday and the team dinner @ 6, so she'll probably want to run right after school. If not, I'll just go myself right after work. If she doesn't go, I'll go to one of the "greenway" trails if it's not raining. I haven't been to one of those in a while since DD#2 likes to run at the indoor track. I'll have to get back to take DD#2 to the dinner and pick up DD#3 from play rehearsal.

DD#2 has a game on Friday night, so that will probably be a rest day.

I'm looking forward to playoff football this weekend. I did a lot of "running" around last weekend and missed parts of the games, but I told my girls not to bother me (especially from noon - 4:30 on Sunday - that's when my beloved Falcons play!). DD#2 doesn't have a game on Saturday, but they might have practice. I'll try to get a run in and my cleaning done before the game @ 4:30. DD#1 is making some kinds of plans with BF and my niece and her husband (niece is 27, but really close to DD#1 who is 17). I told them whatever they plan, if I have to do any driving, they'll have to work it around football! DD#3 has 4.5 hour play rehearsal on Saturday (the play is at the end of the month), but she'll be done @ 2:30.

It will be a busy rest of the week and weekend, but I'm determined to stick to it!

  


100% Back to Routine

The girls went back to school this morning after winter break! I kind of think they were glad to get back (they spent 12 days with me!). Of course we had some running around - DD#1 & 2's bus was late, DD#2 couldn't find her phone and had to leave without it (horrors!) and DD#3 couldn't find her jacket! I had to get up earlier and I'm a little tired now, but it's good to get back. I had my healthy breakfast and packed my lunch!

I did pretty good with the exercise over the weekend. I went to the varsity basketball game with DD#2. Her former Freshman team mate (the girl who is 6'5") scored 33 points! I read on the website that she scored 35 pts. on Saturday! If only she could play on the Freshman team too!

Anyway, I woke up Saturday morning and did the 7 min. upper body and 5 min. lower body resistance band workout. It was a pretty good workout! DD#2 had a game and DD#1 went with me so we could pick up her boyfriend after the game. They lost the game, but did pretty good. The team they played was undefeated and had been winning by at least 30 points! DD#2 lost 34-22. They were beating them the first half, but I guess the team woke up and got "mad"! They were very aggressive. One girl actually tried to jump over DD#2 and knocked her down. She was bruised and sore after that game! She was also a little disappointed. She's been working so hard on her own during the holidays and did really well the couple of practices before the game. The coach still started the "other" girl who did nothing over the holidays (her own admittance) and was slow and clearly out of shape during the game. DD#2 still played a lot, but it's not the same as "starting". I told DD#2 (I heard a NFL football player say this over the weekend) that "a champion works hard when no one is watching" and all her hard work will pay off, so not to be disappointed. Plus it's really kept her in shape and now she's skinny!

So, she still wanted to run yesterday. She had 2 friends with her and DH took them. I went to the hilly outside trail with DD#3 and my sister (and 3 dogs). I told my sister I was going to run and I did my 1 min walk/3 min. run (7 x). It was really, really, hard on the hills. I actually did it about 8 or 9 times. I ended up looking for my sister and DD#3 on the trail and ran/walked for over 45 mins.!

DD#2 doesn't have practice tonight. Her coach is a Notre Dame fan and wants to watch the game (come on coach they need the practice!). Anyway, I'll run/walk again tonight and do my resistance band tomorrow & Wednesday and that will be my first "week" of the new year.

I did ok with eating, but I'm clearly not back on plan! We'll see how it looks on Wednesday.

  


Routine is Good!

I peaked at the scale this morning and I'm down a pound from Wednesday. Now this isn't "official" and I know all about weight fluctuation, but it was good to see the number down. I'm about 90% back to routine now after the holidays. The girls go back to school on Monday, so that will put me back 100%. I've had 3 days of healthy breakfast/lunch and ok dinners, so that's helped.

I'm also a little sore today. I'm not sure if it's from the bowling, the resistance band workout, or a combination of both?! We went bowling after I got off work Wednesday (DH, DD#2 & friend and DD#3 & friend). I haven't bowled in a couple of years. It was a lot of fun and of course I beat everyone! Unfortunately we were there at dinner time, so we had pizza! I only had 2 small pieces and drank a lot of water. I came home after that and ate some fruit, so not too bad.

While cleaning over the weekend, I found the resistance band I had bought DD#1 (she hardly used it). Of course she lost the "workout guide", so I printed a workout from Spark. I didn't really like it because it was a "seated" workout and it seemed a little lame. However, by last night, I was so sore - arms & legs and my back was hurting. I think I overdid it because I didn't think I was doing anything and I may not have done it properly. I found a couple of videos on Spark, so I'm going to try them tomorrow morning.

I also printed out the 5K Your Way on Spark. It's very similar to what I did with my running class almost 2 years ago. It's supposed to be for someone who can walk/jog for 30 mins. I've definitely lost my running "spark", so this should jump start me. The first week is 1 min. walk/3 min. jog (repeat 7 times) 3x a week. It increases after that and after 5 weeks, you should be ready to run a 5K.

I did that last night at the indoor track. It was really hard! By the 6th circuit, I was really feeling it. My legs were already sore, but I pushed through. With the 7 circuits and some extra walking, it was about 32 mins. After I finished, I joined DH & DD#2 in the gym. DH was really working her and I rebounded for about 30 mins., so that was extra exercise. A group of boys asked if we wanted to play a "pick up" game, (I guess they were desperate for a couple of extra people or they wanted a pretty blond to play with them - DD#2, not me or DH!). DH and I opted out (I could see me pulling a muscle or hurting my ankle playing with a bunch of teenage boys!). Anyway, DD#2 played with them for about 15 more mins., so DH and I shot baskets for a while. She did pretty good since she was the 3rd tallest of the 6 people playing. So, all in all I got about 1 1/2 hours of exercise!

Today DD#2 starts back with her basketball practice (they have a game tomorrow), so there goes that motivation! I'm still pretty sore today, so I'm going to take a rest day. DD#2 wants to watch the varsity teams play tonight, so we might go. A Freshman girl that has played with her for 2 years (and we've known the family since the kids were babies) plays on varsity (she's 6'5"!), so we've been wanting to watch her play.

I'm going to do the resistance band workout tomorrow morning before going to DD#2's basketball game. I'll be picking up DD#1's boyfriend (he lives near the high school where we're playing) and then back home to take down the Christmas tree and then watch football! I'm going to run on Sunday morning and then settle in for some more NFL playoff games. My beloved Falcons have a bye!

New Year and back to routine!

I was thinking this morning as I was getting ready for work (and after weighing myself for the first time in over 2 weeks), that it has been 2 years since I had to make a "weight loss resolution". I reached my goal weight (Weight Watchers) in March of 2011 and I was only over a few pounds January of 2012, so losing weight really wasn't my "resolution" or "goal". I had a fitness and maintenance goal.

Now I find myself 10 lbs. over goal! How did this happen? (rhetorical question!). I am up 4 lbs. in 2 weeks and now need to loose 10+ lbs. instead of the 6!. I know a lot of it is probably water weight. I've had high sodium the past couple of days. I really didn't want to weigh myself this morning, but I have to be accountable for my actions!

I really did have a great holiday. I've been on vacation since 12/20 and off routine! I was extremely busy the couple of days before Christmas finishing up shopping, wrapping, cooking, etc. We had our live nativity at church on 12/23 and then was busy Christmas Eve & Christmas with family, etc.

The week after Christmas I spent cleaning, organizing and putting up decorations (only the tree is left). I also spent a lot of time watching football & our new satellite TV stations (I'm addicted to HGTV!).

Fortunately I got some exercise in there or I fear the gain would be more. DD#2 has run/played basketball every day except Christmas Eve, Christmas & New Year's Day. I wasn't able to go every time with her, but I got in 7 out of 12 days of exercise (running/walking). My running has really suffered and I struggle to get in a straight mile of running. I know the reasons - not pushing myself, extra lbs. & crappy eating. DH is taking her this afternoon and we're all going bowling when I get off work. Not great exercise, but it will be fun!

So as I sit here at my desk at work in my uncomfortable pants (did I mention I also lazed around in sweats most of my vacation!) and finishing up my healthy lunch and reading blogs, I'm contemplating my resolutions & goals. Goals for 1st Quarter 2013:

Loose 12 lbs (ready for Spring clothes!) - that's a little aggressive, but I need to be aggressive!

2 5K's - 2/23 & 3/16

Strength Training (my nemesis) - I found the resistant band I bought for DD#1 (and she never used) and I think I'll try these out.

I'll get more specific and there might be some tweaking, but that's pretty much what needs to be done.

I'm glad to be back to my routine and Happy New Year!

    Sometimes just getting back into a routine can help shed those pounds. It sounds like you have some great 2013 goals - we look forward to celebrating with you as you accomplish them!

Today is my last day of work before I leave for the holidays! I don't go online much when I'm at home, just check e-mails, so I probably won't be blogging until next year! I'm still holding my own with weight! I'll probably start the new year with the same 6-8 lbs. to loose that I started 2012!

I ran last Friday. I ran 1 loop outside and then went inside (it was already dark) and ran another 20+ mins. I was really struggling on the hills Friday and was sore after that run. I went shopping Saturday morning and then tried to get in some cleaning before DD#2's basketball game. They played a really good game and only lost by 3 pts!

We had our extended family party on Sunday (over 50 people!). My 2 sisters and I were in charge (for some reason) and we had it at a subdivision clubhouse. We spent 3 hours Saturday night setting up. The party was 1-4 on Sunday and then we had to stay to clean up - a lot of people helped though. It was an exhausting weekend! I did eat a lot at that the party, but I didn't have dinner that night!

The rest of the week has been so busy. I played a little Bball with DD#2, friend and DH on Tuesday and then ran/walked for over 2 miles. DD#2 didn't have practice yesterday, but she was really tired and needed to study for her mid-terms, so we didn't go yesterday - made Christmas cookies instead (but I didn't eat any - yet!). She had 6:30 am practice today and tonight I have to go to a Christmas party at my boss' house. I'm not too thrilled about it - I think his wife is bored and wanted to have a party! It's really raining today and then a cold front will come in and it will be real windy & cold the next couple of days.

Anyway, tomorrow even though the kids are out of school and I'm on vacation, I'll be busy with running around, eye doctor appointments and helping set up for the live nativity, so I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to run. DD#2 might not have practice, so she'll want to do something. The weekend will be busy - going to mall with daughters and DD#1's boyfriend on Saturday. I'm done with most of my shopping, so it will just be a day of people watching and strolling through the crowds. The mall we're going to is very festive for the holidays. Saturday night, I'll be watching the Falcons clinch home field playoff advantage! Sunday is our live nativity from 6-9. We have to be there at 4, so it will be a very long night!

The good thing is DD#2 wants to stay conditioned and practice Bball over the holidays. The varsity team is going to Disney World for a tournament and all the coaches are going, so the Freshman & some JV are pretty much on their own for practice from 12/28 - 1/1. This will give me plenty of motivation for exercise going into the new year! Hopefully I can keep the eating/snacking in check!
