Health Issues

Tuesday, April 08, 2008

So, I go in tomorrow for an endoscopy. I talked to my nurse practitioner yesterday and told her about it. She thinks that my symptoms sound as if I have a hernia or an ulcer. Either way, I just want to get it taken care of. It has been causing a lot of underlying stress, I think. I guess not only the feeling sick a lot, but also the not knowing what it is. I hope the doctor can find out and that it can be quickly resolved. I also hope I don't have to take a time out from trying to get back into an exercise routine. Every time I have to stop, it is harder to get back. We'll see. God is sovereign and in control - for this, I am very thankful!

So, I watched my brother-in-law run in the 10K US Championships today. He came in 2nd with a time of 28.36. Afterward, we went to lunch with him and a guy who owns both a running store and biking store. It was so amazing talking to both of them. They gave me helpful hints on beginning to run. It was quite inspirational. Tom (the store owners and an amazing athlete) was amazing and he said that his store is soon going to start a beginner's running group in a couple of weeks. I am hoping I can join.
Another inspirational event is that my sister joined SparkPeople. We live on opposite coasts, so, as much as we would love to work out together - not gonna happen. However, doing SparkPeople together (and starting NikePlus together in the next few days) will feel as if we are sort of together. Very excited!

They say the first step is the hardest.

I think "they" lie.

I can get real excited about something for a while, and then I fall down, and don't want to get back up again.

I'm proud of you for getting back up, dusting yourself off, and taking off in the direction of health again!

I'm going to check in on you in about another week, if that's OK?

Kudos to you for starting over. There's no limit to do-overs - it's just an opportunity to get back on track, right? And you've done the first step, logging in, posting this in your blog. You did good!
Go for the easy wins - at my work they call it "low hanging fruit" of many 'bs Bingo' corporate phrases, bs meaning bull poop, lol! Aaaaanyway, like I mentioned, go for the easy stuff, read an article on SP, drink your 8 glasses of water, accomplish a couple of things on your sparkpoints list. Once you get a little bit of momentum, it'll be easier to conquer that internal guilt. And don't feel bad about any of it. Guilt is natural, just a phase - it's just the opposite of motivation. Just use your guilt and motivation when you need to, to keep everything in balance. You need those down days as much as you need active days where you accomplish the highest of goals. You can do it. You've already done some, so - 'golf clap' (I'm politely clapping for ya, lol)!

Know what, I hate getting sick, but one thing I really look forward to is how loose my pants are when I finally get out of my pajamas and wear some real clothes! Heh-heh...

Stay on target...(or as they say at my work "stay the course" another bull poop Bingo phrase!

Welcome back, and don't worry - many of us 'disappear' from time to time, especially at the start! I certainly disappeared for a few months, then reappeared on the radar when I realised I wasn't making progress... whenever you need encouragement, just ask. That's what we're here for!
