you got to move it, move it

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

I find that the best music to get me up and moving is Techno in all its forms: Psytrance, hardcore, house, dubstep, etc. My MP3 player is full of this stuff; whether it is from DJs like Paul Oakenfold or artists such as the Audio Bullys youtu.be/abBguaOlcXQ

or night long mash-ups from Pittsburgh local Dj friends such as Chris Carter (not to be confused with the guy who did the music for X-files) unfotunately when you want to find his online music, you can't. But trust me, it is some good stuff.

But here are some others on my MP3 to check out:
Royksopp royksopp.com/
Stella Nutella www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm
?bandID=618483&content=music

Tiesto www.djtunes.com/tiesto

Rock on!

Bike to work day

Friday, May 18, 2012

Today is national bike to work day.

I don't own a bike however, If I did I am not too sure I would have biked into work this morning. Baltimore MD is not a very friendly bike city. There are limited amount of bike lanes on the road and the ones that do exist just stop. I was noticing this last evening while running an errand just off Walther Road in the north part of the city. There is a lane marked on Walther starting at Harford and heading north. Just before Moravia the lane just stops. There was no intersection there. I remember thinking "Wow, I guess the biker is just supposed to disappear".

This morning a woman was riding through the inner harbor. She was wobbling on the bike and seemed really scared. She pulled over and was allowing the traffic to pass her by. There are no bike lanes on Pratt street there and she was unable to keep up with the traffic. I was (still am) worried about her well being.

if you are one of the people expressing solidarity for the cause; please be careful. Pay attention to the cars/trucks around you. Keep with the flow of traffic and have a safe day!

Oh my! I hope that lady arrived to her home safe and sound, and won't try it again, especially in an unsafe area.

Cincinnati is not very bike friendly either (IMHO). There have been advancements on a number of major roads, like bike lanes, but I don't trust the drivers here!

Also-out the door on my way to work would mean pedalling uphill first thing in the morning. No thanks. Although the ride home would be sweet--mostly downhill!

My area is the same as you describe. It makes walking distances rather frightening.

lighting a spark

indeed! Spark people does remind me and inspire me to get moving. The challenges are creative and fun such as exercise with your cat in the cat lovers team. Run down the hall pulling a cat nip toy behind. Smokey loves that!

The site in general does keep me motivated because a lot of times, I just want to crash on the couch after a long day's work but reading the positive blogs, reminds me that I need to be diligent otherwise, nothing will change.

Insanity = doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.
