January 8/2013 - Spark People App no more

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

So, a while back I had the SparkPeople app on my phone so I could track my meals and exercises on the go. It was free back then to add....it had bugs, like the bar code scanner didn't work right and what not, but it was SparkPeople so I was still happy with it. When my phone died and I had to get a new one I was no longer focusing on my health as I was dealing with a lot of other things in my life. Both my parents moving and then them both as well as both my in laws, being in the hospital for a bit and then our dog going into organ failure due to undiagnosed diabetes and having to be put down plus trying to find medication for my health that the insurance would pay for....this has been a nightmare....

anyway, both sets of parents are all home and doing better, though dad had another surgery yesterday to deal with some scar tissue from the last surgery, and found that through a mail order pharmacy I can get my meds completely covered so they are free! And though we did lose our Frosty before Thanksgiving, on Black Friday we went to the Humane Society and got our new furbaby, Pookah...I realized I needed to get back on schedule with exercise and eating healthy again.....So I went to start organizing things for returning back to my healthy routine.... I had a new app on my phone called MyFitnessCoach which I like a lot, but I wanted my SparkPeople stuff still so went to search for the app....

The app is still there, simply no longer free. They now are charging $3.99 for it. I was tempted to go ahead and buy it, but then I took a look at the reviews. According to those they still never fixed the bar code scanner that you could simply scan the bar code and the nutritional information would show up. It still was not organized to locate restaurant foods so if I went out to eat I wouldn't be able to figure out what would be best for me to eat there and keep me at my limit.... so why would I pay that money when MyFitnessCoach does all that....AND FOR FREE!!!!!

So if you have a cell phone and want an excellent and FREE app that actually works look for MyFitnessCoach. You can still enter your stuff on here as well if you want to but this way you can take it all with you and aren't loosing weight where you don't want to loose it....from your pocket book.

Wow, that sucks! I'm glad I already have it downloaded, but it's not cool to know that if it crashed, I'd have to pay to replace it. Bad call :(

Are we there yet?

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

So, so far this year:

The truck died! Casey is relying on friends to and from work and luckily my parents live not too far away so they can take me to doctors appointments and to the store.

My arthritis has been acting up in a big way. My knees are causing me pain and now my lower back is killing me. It is the same pain as when I had the herniated disk a few years back.

Now on the plus side, since my family doctor (who I have been seeing since I was a teenager) left the practice and now we have this young guy (I swear he looks all of 12) taking over for him... I will give it to this young guy, he has some new ideas for my health issues so he is slowly changing up my meds so that it isn't going to be as expensive has it has been. My gyno told me I need to get my mammogram done... not looking forward to that...and she is checking my testosterone levels. emoticon I feel like I am being prodded and poked again. So hopefully now with all the new stuff in the medical community they will be able to find out for sure what my problems are and how to fix them!

I am also worried about D. She is now starting to have pain when her time of the month comes along. So I am worried she has the same issue with endometriosis as I did and I do not want her going through the same issues that I did. So I am going to set up an appointment for her. The doctor told me today that if she is showing signs that the best thing to put her on is birth control pills. emoticon

Could be worse!

Knowing to actually consider endometriosis is a huge help. The average time and number of doctors is 10 years and 7 doctors (before an actual diagnosis of endo).

Not many doctors (even gynecologists) are actually knowledgeable about endo. For example, birth control pills can worsen the problem.

Sending lots of healthy thoughts to you and D!! emoticon emoticon

Saint Patrick's Day from an Irish Witch's Point of View

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Many of my pagan friends refuse to celebrate this holiday. I get it. I totally understand that celebrating Saint Patrick driving the "snakes" out if Ireland is not something to celebrate. What most people think is that a snake is, well a snake. An amphibious creature with no legs that slithers across the ground... however snakes in the St. Pat story are a metaphor. This is what a lot of well meaning people think, that St Pats is a day of celebration, when to many pagans it is a day that they mourn the Druids and Celts that were killed during this time of "reformation" in Ireland.

Shakes are a symbol of the Mother Goddess as Crone. It is a symbol of wisdom and of change. That though it sheds it's skin the snake is born anew.

There never were snakes in Ireland because of the climate. The snakes were in fact people who did not celebrate Christianity.

Now, with that being said, and with me being a Pagan, I understand that when everyone else is dressing green and enjoying a day of drinking and corned beef, some choose to turn their backs on it and being a spoil sport of it all.

Frankly I feel it is a waste of energy holding on to the negativity that surrounded this holiday and instead focus on the celebration of the Irish culture. So for all of you pagans who have complained to me about what this day is all about, you are missing the point. Do what my friend Dawn did. Get a big ugly Hawaiian shirt with the colors of the Irish Flag (Green for the Catholics, Orange for the Protestants, and White for Peace) and make sure it has Palm Trees to celebrate the Druids! Green beer is not your oppressor! Most of all, have fun and release that negativity. When we hold on to that you are only encouraging more.

Reclaim this day from Pat and focus on the other Irish aspects of the day. Kiss an Irish person and be proud of your heritage whatever it may be! emoticon emoticon

I agree! We should celebrate who and what we are as people and not hold on to the negativity of the past. There is nothing that can be changed about what was done in the past but we can push forward to a much brighter future!

Thanks for the information - I was very "blind" on this information. I was raised Christian, but being Irish, Scottish, English, and Swedish, and never having had the opportunity to learn of my heritages until recently, I am like a blank slate on all my lineages. I am not pagen, but I believe we should all celebrate who we are, too, because, I believe God told us to do so through Jesus, His Son.

I can believe in anything I wish and I can understand others beliefs. I really get upset with people that basically slap your hand and admonish you for even listening to others views. I don't think there is anything wrong with learning everything and letting others believe what they want. That's what this country was founded on and contrary to Rev Freddie and his merry band of Anti-American, etc., all Christians are not pushy, self-appointed, up-raised gods in their own world. I don't live on tribal insticts or inherited believes. I like to figure my own way!

Have a Grand one, all. emoticon

That's how we look at it - a day to celebrate Irish heritage and ancestors. My fiance has Irish lineage.

It's the same thing with St. George's Day in England. My family has a very detailed British lineage dating back to 1155. We celebrate our heritage, the British culture and of course the birth/death date of Shakespere (as it is the same day). We have fun with it with the understanding that as a culture over all we are moving toward acceptance and peace between Christians and Pagans.

Very well put...some people just don't realize that we all believe in different things, and in order to live in perfect harmony, we need to learn to allow others to have their beliefs whatever they may be and just live life to the fullest.

Tired, oh so tired

"I'm Tired"

performed in: "Blazing Saddles" (1974)
song by: Mel Brooks

Here I stand, the goddess of Desire,
set men on fire,
I have this power,
morning noon and night it's drink and dancing,
some quick romancing,
and then a quick shower,
stage door johnnies always surround me,
they always hound me,
with one request,
who can satisfy their lustful habits,
I'm not a rabbit!
I need some rest!

I'm tired,
sick and tired of love,
I've had my fill of love,
from below and above,
tired,
tired of being admired,
tired of love uninspired,
let's face it,
I'm tired!

I've been with 1000's of men,
again and again,
they promise the moon,
they always coming and going,
going and coming,
and always too soon!
Right girls?

I'm tired,
tired of playing the game,
ain't it a crying shame?
I'm so tired,
God dammit I'm tired!

Hello cowboy, what's your name?
Tex 'mam
Tex 'mam ? Tell me Tex'mam, are you in show business?
No
We'll then why don't you get your freaking feet off here
La ha
Ah ha he hu...
Hello handsome, is that a 10 gallon hat? Or are you just enjoying the show?
Ah ha ah...
Oh miss lilly, oh my laby, oh my pussy cat, put it there baby, put it... ohhhhh

I'm tired,
tired of playing the game,
ain't it a crying shame,
I'm so tired

[soldiers:]
she's tired
-she's tired
sick and tired of love
-give her a break
she's had her fill of love
-she's not a snake
from bellow and above
-can't you see she's sick?
tired
-she's bushed
tired of being admired
-let her alone
tired of love uninspired
-get off the phone
she's tired
-don't you know she's pooped?

I've been with 1000's of men,
again and again,
they sing the same toon,
the start with Byron and Shelly,
and jump on your belly,
and bust your ballon!
aye!
tired,
tired of playing the game,
ain't it a freakin shame,
I'm so...
let's face it,
everything below the waste is kapput!
