plan for the rest of the week/ weekend

Today, I plan to do 2 of the exercises on the August Challenge to get caught up.
Thursday, I plan to run 3 miles and do some abs exercises.
Friday- we are driving to DC for a wedding. The rehearsal is at noon and rehearsal luncheon at 2:30. I may be able to get to the gym after the rehearsal before we go out for the night. Or do a bodyrock. Iím planning on 15-30 minutes of something.
Saturday- 3 mile run and weights in the gym. Then wedding.
Sunday- rest day/ sitting in traffic on 95 all day.

I still need to work on not getting caught up in the moment and drinking more than I plan to. I know lunch and dinner Friday will be at restaurants. I plan to have 1 drink at the rehearsal luncheon and 1 drink with dinner. I will allow 2 drinks when we go out Friday night ONLY IF I get in my planned exercise. I am going to pack oatmeal for breakfast for Saturday and bring a salad from home for lunch and yogurt for a snack. I will allow myself 2-3 glasses of wine during the wedding and after party.

I have been really unmotivated lately (mix of job issues, life issues, social events etc). Exercise always makes me feel batter afterward, and I need to keep reminding myself of that. I also need to get out of the mindset that I can eat or drink whatever without repercussions. The problem with that is that I really have been able to eat and drink whatever I want and I have maintained my weight and have even lost a few pounds.

    I have been giving myself peptalks every day- This is how good I feel remember this tomorrow. This is a lifestyle Change.. It actually got me out of bed this morning :)

    Busy busy girl! I'm sorry you're feeling a bit unmotivated lately.. we ALL go through that sometimes! Maybe it would help if you wrote yourself little notes and posted them around the house as a daily reminder? For example, you could put on your fridge something about your food intake and properly fueling your body? Or maybe one on a mirror somewhere reminding you that you ALWAYS feel better after a little exercise?

Just some thoughts =] Have a BLAST at the wedding! Dance your booty all over that floor! =]

    Awesome way to Plan!!! We all lose motivation sometimes. Eat 4-6 times a day and get moving it what is helping me break out of my rut.

    My un-motivation is kind of for everything- exercise, dishes, laundry, making a new resume, applying for jobs etc.
I think my weight loss/ no weight change is due to me not eating enough previously. I think I need to eat at the higher end of my calorie range every day. I've been having better results that way. I don't generally eat large portions, but I eat pretty much constantly after I get home from work (I definitely need to work on snacking...).
Good call on skipping the apps and doing a lot of dancing. I don't really know anyone except for H and the couple, so I need to find something to occupy myself while they're taking pictures!

    Way to plan your workout ahead of time. I have the same issue with social dirnking, especially at weddings. Here are a few of my tricks: Make sure you're up dancing off some calories, take food for the car ride (protein bars or something) because rest stop drive thrus can start calling your name, avoid the cocktail hour appetizers because they are usually fried or fattening, and enjoy what splurges you DO choose to make. Can you tell we've had 5 out of town weddings this year? LoL! Have fun!

    LOL! I would have the same problem if my result of eating/drinking whatever I wanted ended up with no weight gain and sometimes a LOSS! Wow, you must not eat large portions.

I completely understand about the drinking. Cutting down can be more of a 'remember to do this' thing, because it just comes naturally (at times) to drink and alcoholic beverage. Football games are the worst for me, because I get so into the game I lose track of how much I drink. I'm aiming to watch the next game completely sober, but it depends on how rough the next few days are (new job).

Even when you're unmotivated, is that just for the circuit training and stuff? Like do you still run? Or is it everything? Would maybe adding something new help? Like Yoga or Pilates or hiking or something?

Weekend update

First and foremost about my weekend, my niece was born Saturday afternoon!

Well this did not really go as planned. I spent about 3 hours in the car on Friday afternoon going to pick up our race packets for the 8k Saturday morning. I hate traffic and driving in general, so that totally could have derailed me! I ended up catching up on the bodyrock challenge by doing Thursday and Friday's workouts after I got home and felt much better.

Saturday was race day. We signed up for the Armed Forces YMCA 8k mud run (Team name: My Name is Mud!). Well it really should have been called 8k sand run- I'm estimating that 4 of the 4.97 miles was running in sand! Holy crap was that hard! We finished 78/109 of the couples teams, with a time of 1:05. After the race, everyone jumped in the bay to wash off and enjoy the live band, beer and pizza afterward. I think this is where my day took a weird turn. 3 slices of pizza and 2 (16oz) beers. At 10am...
After visiting my SIL and BIL in the hospital to see the baby, we ended up going to a Mexican restaurant. We were just going to get a drink and share chips and dip. I ate almost 1 entire basket of chips by myself. And we had cheese and beans. I felt like I ate more than I would have if I'd ordered dinner instead! I was on the fence about going, but Jimi wanted to go so I gave in. I even said aloud that I was running out of my calorie allotment after the beer and pizza at 10am. But I still went and gorged myself. And then we went home and watched Dexter and split a bottle of wine... Not my best shining moments...

Sunday was my mom's birthday. We picked blueberries and went to my grandma's house for dinner. I did okay. Definitely over my calories though. I ate a lot of candy (why???), and more than a few crackers and cheese. And half of my piece of cheesecake. I think I had gotten back into the "I already ruined my eating over the weekend so why the hell not" mode. I did drink a lot of seltzer and saved myself from drinking a ton of wine. I had 2ish glasses total over 4 hours- not too bad.

This morning, I definitely feel bloated. I drank way too much, ate way too much and ate crap. Oh, I also didn't drink enough water the entire weekend. Me! The one who drinks enough water for 2 people on a regular day!

Well, it's Monday. We have a trail run planned for after work today and we've committed to doing to lovingfit exercise on the August Challenge today.

    Blessings on your family upon the birth of your niece. emoticon How wonderful!

Celebrations often revolve around food. Sometimes we are so focused on the moment that we lose track of calories. It happens to all of us. Just move forward and emoticon.

I've had to run on a golf course after a heavy rain. It was like running on a waterbed. Similar to running on sand, I imagine. Sounds like you and your hubby had a great run! Good for you.

    Congrats on the new addition to your family!

On the over eating it definitely happens to the best of us. Try not to beat yourself up to much about it and bust butt in your workouts this week. It is hard to be social and stay on plan and it is a constant fight. It may have been that your run was so challenging that your body was craving more fuel. Either way I have no doubt you will back on track in no time!!!

    I'm not sure why I was consciously making bad decisions (3 pieces is a lot of pizza..., it's too early to be drinking..., I should really stop eating candy..., I can eat my cheesecake later...) - I had this weird sense of entitlement the entire weekend! Maybe it was that post-race feeling of accomplishment. Either way, NOT COOL! Thanks for the motivation!
We took before and after photos, which I will post when I get home. Hopefully they will post race pictures so I can post an action shot!

    Every moment, every hour and every day is a new chance to start over! Lets put that weekend's eating behind you and move on from it! We all have those days! Hopefully feeling bloated today and realizing all that went on will be enough for you to push through and move forward!

Oh, and ROCK ON with that mud/sand race! Awesome!!!! It sounds like loads of fun =D Did you guys get any pictures of you taken at the race? =]

August goals and reflection of July goals

July goals:
-Walk after lunch 3x/week
-Run 2 miles without stopping (at least once!)
-Log 12 miles per week (walking or running)
-Track food EVERY DAY- even if it's bad
-Burn 1100 calories per week though exercise
-Do July challenge M-F
-Tackle these house projects- sand and stain buffet, organize 2nd br closet and organize pantry!

July was a VERY busy month for me. I didn't work 1 full week without having to take time off for trips etc. I did walk after lunch at least 3x per week. And I ran 2 continuous miles! I logged 12 miles per week for the first 2 weeks, then waned off after that. I tracked food when I was in town, but didn't track when I didn't have access to the computer. Unfortunately, these we also the times of higher consumption :( And I didn't do the rest of my goals list either.

Thoughts:
I haven't beaten myself up over it. I was busy. I got a lot of walking, swimming and hiking in, although I totally fell off of my running and bodyrock exercise schedules. I thought about my food choices more as I was making them, which is a plus. I drank more than I wanted to this month, but we kept having exciting things come up! (I know, no excuse). Anyways... it's August, which is a new month to get back into my regular schedule. I have an 8k mud run on Saturday, nothing the following weekend (!!!) and a wedding the weekend after that.

August Goals:
-Run 3 miles without stopping (at least once!)
-Log 12 miles per week (walking or running)
-Track food EVERY DAY- even if it's bad
-Get more variety for breakfast and lunch at work 2x week (stole this from ERICADAWN1986)
-Do August bodyrock challenge M-F
-Do 30 consecutive real pushups (no knees)
-Tackle these house projects- sand and stain buffet and organize pantry

    Sounds like you did great in July, and you have excellent goals set for August. Keep it up!

And like EricaDawn said, there's an app for smart phones if you have one. Its nice to use to at least guage how I'm doing when eating out on the go, and reminding me that I should skip the fries with dinner.

    Your plan looks great! It can be so hard when you're out of town. I'm not sure if you have a smart phone but the Spark People app is great for logging food quickly and easily on the go. It's kept me on track many an out-of-town weekend.

Girls weekend at the beach

We're leaving later tonight (after traffic) to go to the beach for the weekend! My mom's best friend is in town from California and we've been doing lots of fun east coast activities. We're staying at my friend's beach house for the weekend.

Food and fitness-wise, I hadn't planned to have to deal with a lot of my trigger foods in the house. My sisters are now coming too, so there will be tons of bread, chips, etc lying around. Luckily, my little sister is the athlete of the family! I asked her to bring running clothes so we could get some morning runs in before we head to the beach. I don't usually run with her, so hopefully I will be embarrassed to stop and run further than usual. I'm running in an 8k mud run next weekend, and need to be running longer than 3 miles!

I've packed healthy breakfast, lunch and snack items, so hopefully that will help keep me in check. We are probably going out to dinner 1 of the nights, and I will probably go over my limits (the place we had my wedding catered from is at the beach... BEST FOOD EVER!).
I am also making a plan to not start drinking during the day just because I am at the beach. I brought tons of seltzer and limes so I can still feel like I'm having an "exciting" drink.

Back from camping, not back in the swing of things yet...

Well I'm back from vacation! We left Tuesday night and drove until we got to the campsite in NH (arrived at 7am). We were just outside of Lincoln, NH. This was my first camping experience where it was a 10 minute drive to get to gas/ice/food etc. We usually camp in remote areas, so it was kind of weird. Another weird thing about NH is all of the chipmunks! They were so cute!
I didn't eat very well over the camping portion of the trip. I attribute this to a severe lack of sleep and the fact that I hadn't seen my best friend in almost a year. I ate things like boxed mac n cheese and poptarts and fruity snacks (aka things we NEVER have at home!). We hiked up to a waterfall near the campsite (6.75mi round trip). The water up there is so much colder than river water in VA.


On Friday, we drove to Boston. Traffic was ridiculous! We got off the highway and ended up in a 4 lane wide roundabout with no lane markings! Needless to say, we went around it twice trying to get out onto the right road. I was crying laughing and Jimi was mad. Either way, welcome to Boston! We stayed at a hotel in Cambridge right across the water. We did a lot of walking to get to bars/restaurants/site-seeing etc. We did take the subway to the Sam Adams Brewery for a tour Saturday morning, which was awesome! We followed most of the freedom trail, stopped in a few shops, had lunch in a park, drank Sam Adams beer that you can't get in VA, and took touristy pictures. All in all, it was a fun trip. I don't think I'll be doing another road trip anytime soon though. I love my friends, but that was a lot of constant hanging out!

I havenít had an official workout since before we left for the trip. We did 2 hikes and walked around the city a lot. Itís so hard to get back into the swing of things! I am also eating a lot more out of boredom. I think using some of my time as gym time will allow me to get some workout in and also curb my insatiable appetite!

I plan on getting a run in at the gym tomorrow and resuming the bodyrock challenge. I have a little over 2 weeks until the 8k mud run Jimi and I signed up for! My mom's best friend is flying in from CA tomorrow for 2 weeks, so I have a lot more hanging out, not-normal schedule ahead of me. We're picking blueberries on Satruday and going to a few wineries on Sunday. I haven't seen her since I was 5, so I'm pretty excited too!
