Jumping off the wagon, be back Sunday!

Super busy this week. I'm not gonna lie, I technically have time to get a workout in today, but I'm too excited about our trip to do anything but get our stuff together!
Jimi got out of work for tomorrow night, so we're leaving right when we get home. We're driving to DC to pick up my 2 best friends (1 flew in from Portland!) and we're heading up to New Hampshire to go camping! After 2 days of camping, we're driving to Boston to drop my Portland friend off for her brother's wedding. The rest of us are staying the weekend in Boston. We plan to check out the museum of fine arts, sam adams brewery, harpoon brewery, the MIT museum, Boston public garden etc. It's going to be awesome!

So yeah, I'm jumping off the spark wagon until Monday. We plan to do a lot of hiking and swimming in New Hampshire and a lot of walking in Boston. I don't have a smart phone, so I'm not even going to attempt to log food/exercise while I'm gone.

I did all the shopping and food prep for the trip and definitely packed a lot of healthy foods (and some not so healthy foods requested by others, but I don't know anyone who has died from poptarts or mac n cheese :) And I packed seltzer to cut down on my alcohol consumption.

Time to put all of my spark knowledge to the test!

    I grew up in NH and go to Boston all the time, I'm so excited for you - you're going to have a blast!!!! Perfect time of the year to go too. You will be so active in NH and Boston has no shortage of walking opportunities (hello Freedom Trail!!!)

There are lots of great restaurants in Boston with delicious reasonable options (which is making me now crave decent seafood!!), you'll do fine. Just chug your water and listen to your body's signals.

I am a runner? I am a runner!

During my run after work yesterday, I decided that I am a runner. I go running. And I like it! Even when I'm trailing behind my husband and asking him to slow down so I can keep up- yep, still a runner! I like pushing myself. I like running further and faster than I have before. It is empowering.
I ran 2.8 miles without stopping yesterday- .2 miles away from my next reward! I didn't see this happening so soon, so I may need to switch up rewards- I don't need new shoes yet! It's amazing how much more endurance I have compared to April when I started running. I could barely run 1 minute without getting winded!


Anyways, I feel like I've been slacking on healthy eating lately. It always seems to happen when I start to get satisfied with my progress. Even when I'm not hungry, if I have 250 calories left in my budget, I'll eat anyways! Who does that??

We're leaving for our roadtrip/camping in NH/Boston trip Tuesday night! So excited! I haven't seen my best friend since my wedding (last September) and it's going to be awesome!

Weekend away- tossup about winning food/ drinking battle

Went to visit the in-laws in OBX this weekend. IT WAS HOT! Jimi and I went for a morning run Saturday (he now believes me that I ran 2 miles straight!). I went to a baby shower for his sister at a restaurant for lunch. I had vegetable quinoa over mixed greens with grilled chicken added. It was awesome! Not too many choices for me at a seafood restaurant, but this was really good. I had a glass of wine with lunch. And a piece of carrot cake...

We went to the beach afterward. The water was so clear and very refreshing with all that heat. I drank seltzer with lime at the beach (and water!). Jimi made us some drinks with lemonade, watermelon juice (yes, he squeezed the juice himself!) and vodka- amazing! I also made the same drink with seltzer in place of vodka.
I'd definitely consider this weekend a win in the Christy vs social drinking battle. I turned down 2 glasses of wine and some mixed drinks and drank 0 beer down at the beach.

I'd say it was a tossup on the food. I did have a lot of carrot cake, but turned down a piece of pie that I made (you were right Hannah, it felt awesome!). I ate a ton of vegetables and maybe 1 serving of chips over the whole weekend. I also got out of eating lasagna for lunch because I don't eat beef. I had leftover chicken over a salad.

Sunday we went to the beach for awhile before lunch. It was so hot that after getting out of the water, you'd dry up 5 minutes. After 10 or so minutes in the sun, you would be so sweaty that you would look like you just got out of the water! I drank a ton of water yesterday!

I weighed the same this morning as I did Friday morning, which is good. I usually gain something over the weekends.

Heat is finally down this week! Jimi and planned a run this afternoon in the park when I get off work. We need more practice having endurance in the heat (Grand Canyon trip is in 2 months!). We're parking closer to the trailhead at the park so I actually have a chance of finished the loop without stopping (2.6 miles).

    I saw your blog: "I'm a runner? I'm a runner!" scroll past on the Team Stream and laughed out loud. I don't know if I can claim the second half of that title yet, but definitely the first. I just did Week 2 Day 1 yesterday and I'm still asking myself, "Who is this person that signed up for a 5K??" I love the way you integrate your food and running progress in your blog, and it's quite inspiring that you went from winded in a minute to enjoying 2.8 miles in such a short period of time! Sounds like you're doing great.

    Rock on turning down a piece of pie! So glad you had the same AWESOME feeling that I get from turning treats down! Obviously I don't do it ALL the time.. (last night I had two smores =p Sometimes you just gotta! haha) but when you have loads of events going on like it sounds you do frequently, flexing that will power is an amazing thing! And making ONE self disciplined choice usually leads to another, and another and adds to the awesomeness! =]

First week of July awesomeness!

The week has started off great! I started the new July bodyrock (and other exercises) challenge for July. We have more people participating, which is even more motivation to keep going. the last workout was BRUTAL. I don't think my shoulders will ever forgive me for that!

Anyways... on Tuesday, I went to the gym to run on the treadmill. I hadn't run since the beginning of last week and wasn't really feeling up to it. I ended up doing 2 miles without stopping- definitely a new personal best! I'm not even sure where that came from, but I definitely did it and didn't die! I had set up rewards for reaching different fitness goals, and went to Target and bought a new pair of running shorts (with my $2 off coupon I printed!).

Yesterday, I wore my new running shorts at the gym. I did 40 minutes of walking with maybe 15 minutes of running mixed in. I did the bodyrock exercise after that (the brutal one), made a pie and a side dish, then headed to a friend's house. I definitely over-ate. I would have been fine without the piece of pie after dinner or the wrap I made when we got home last night. We put a votive candle on top of a mini-cupcake for my hsuband for him to blow out (it was his birthday). It made for a cute picture haha
I need to keep reminding myself that 2000-2500 calories is normal for most people. Going over 1550 calories once a week isn't going to kill me, especially when I am getting regular exercise.

Unless you also go to your in-laws' house over the weekend, which we are doing this weekend. I took the suggestion of drinking seltzer water with fruit in it from some other sparkers, and it has worked well so far (aka yesterday). I plan to bring some down to the beach this weekend and drink that in lieu of alcohol to keep my nutrient limits in check. We are going out for lunch Saturday for a baby shower, and I need to plan ahead for that. Their neighborhood is off of the main road in the area with a walking path, so i can get a good run in Saturday morning.

    Way to go running 2 miles straight! Quite impressive indeed!!!! And are you talking about the "I'm sexy and I know it" workout? That really WAY brutal on the arms! I'm looking foreward to following a similar style with the lower body and upper body workouts =] I felt totally balanced even though my arms feel worked today and my legs felt worked yesterday! =]

You're totally right on the fact that even though you might be over-eating here or there, you're STILL on the right path! Getting in the exercise and being aware of what is going on with your mouth and mind are huge.. Maybe next time if you know that you're going to be hungry when you get home at night you should think about that while the pie is being dished out and just pass? Have you ever been the only one in the room to pass on the pie? I HAVE and it's a pretty spectacular feeling=] especially if YOU made the pie.. why must there be a secret rule that you MUST eat a slice? Maybe just a bite of your hubby's to call yourself good? =]

July! Reflection of June goals and new goals for July

these were my June goals:
-Walk after lunch 3x/week ***(some weeks had 5 walks after lunch, but all had 3 or more!)
-3 mile jog 3x/week (get to 9.5 minute miles- currently 11ish minute miles)*** (did a 7:47 mile and average 9:30 for 2 miles!)
-Track food EVERY DAY- even if it's bad*** goal met
-Lose 3 pounds (Didn't happen. not going to worry about it anymore)
-Cut back on after work snacking- fold laundry, water the plants, play with the cats no snacking outside of planned snack! *** (I'm a snacker, but have been planning less- calorie dense foods as snacks)
-Get 30 minutes of exercise 5 day per week- run, walk, video, free weights- just do something!)*** goal met
-Burn 1000 calories per week though exercise (My mile times are pretty slow, so picking up the pace should help a lot!) *** goal met!

Sorry if that's hard to read- it looks pretty messy. June went really well. Met most of my goals and exceeded some as well.

July goals:
-Walk after lunch 3x/week
-Run 2 miles without stopping (at least once!)
-Log 12 miles per week (walking or running)
-Track food EVERY DAY- even if it's bad
-Burn 1100 calories per week though exercise
-Do July challenge M-F
-Tackle these house projects- sand and stain buffet, organize 2nd br closet and organize pantry!
