First week of July awesomeness!

The week has started off great! I started the new July bodyrock (and other exercises) challenge for July. We have more people participating, which is even more motivation to keep going. the last workout was BRUTAL. I don't think my shoulders will ever forgive me for that!

Anyways... on Tuesday, I went to the gym to run on the treadmill. I hadn't run since the beginning of last week and wasn't really feeling up to it. I ended up doing 2 miles without stopping- definitely a new personal best! I'm not even sure where that came from, but I definitely did it and didn't die! I had set up rewards for reaching different fitness goals, and went to Target and bought a new pair of running shorts (with my $2 off coupon I printed!).

Yesterday, I wore my new running shorts at the gym. I did 40 minutes of walking with maybe 15 minutes of running mixed in. I did the bodyrock exercise after that (the brutal one), made a pie and a side dish, then headed to a friend's house. I definitely over-ate. I would have been fine without the piece of pie after dinner or the wrap I made when we got home last night. We put a votive candle on top of a mini-cupcake for my hsuband for him to blow out (it was his birthday). It made for a cute picture haha
I need to keep reminding myself that 2000-2500 calories is normal for most people. Going over 1550 calories once a week isn't going to kill me, especially when I am getting regular exercise.

Unless you also go to your in-laws' house over the weekend, which we are doing this weekend. I took the suggestion of drinking seltzer water with fruit in it from some other sparkers, and it has worked well so far (aka yesterday). I plan to bring some down to the beach this weekend and drink that in lieu of alcohol to keep my nutrient limits in check. We are going out for lunch Saturday for a baby shower, and I need to plan ahead for that. Their neighborhood is off of the main road in the area with a walking path, so i can get a good run in Saturday morning.

    Way to go running 2 miles straight! Quite impressive indeed!!!! And are you talking about the "I'm sexy and I know it" workout? That really WAY brutal on the arms! I'm looking foreward to following a similar style with the lower body and upper body workouts =] I felt totally balanced even though my arms feel worked today and my legs felt worked yesterday! =]

You're totally right on the fact that even though you might be over-eating here or there, you're STILL on the right path! Getting in the exercise and being aware of what is going on with your mouth and mind are huge.. Maybe next time if you know that you're going to be hungry when you get home at night you should think about that while the pie is being dished out and just pass? Have you ever been the only one in the room to pass on the pie? I HAVE and it's a pretty spectacular feeling=] especially if YOU made the pie.. why must there be a secret rule that you MUST eat a slice? Maybe just a bite of your hubby's to call yourself good? =]

July! Reflection of June goals and new goals for July

these were my June goals:
-Walk after lunch 3x/week ***(some weeks had 5 walks after lunch, but all had 3 or more!)
-3 mile jog 3x/week (get to 9.5 minute miles- currently 11ish minute miles)*** (did a 7:47 mile and average 9:30 for 2 miles!)
-Track food EVERY DAY- even if it's bad*** goal met
-Lose 3 pounds (Didn't happen. not going to worry about it anymore)
-Cut back on after work snacking- fold laundry, water the plants, play with the cats no snacking outside of planned snack! *** (I'm a snacker, but have been planning less- calorie dense foods as snacks)
-Get 30 minutes of exercise 5 day per week- run, walk, video, free weights- just do something!)*** goal met
-Burn 1000 calories per week though exercise (My mile times are pretty slow, so picking up the pace should help a lot!) *** goal met!

Sorry if that's hard to read- it looks pretty messy. June went really well. Met most of my goals and exceeded some as well.

July goals:
-Walk after lunch 3x/week
-Run 2 miles without stopping (at least once!)
-Log 12 miles per week (walking or running)
-Track food EVERY DAY- even if it's bad
-Burn 1100 calories per week though exercise
-Do July challenge M-F
-Tackle these house projects- sand and stain buffet, organize 2nd br closet and organize pantry!

Measurements after 1 month of Bodyrock Challenge (+running + gym)!

I actually waited 1 whole month, with no cheating on measuring early just because I'm impatient (should get a trophy for that!).

I used the calculator (link below) to determine body fat percentage. It used the most measurements, so it seems pretty accurate.

I wish I had added my own measurements to the list at the begining of the month- I added waist measurement at the belly button, a measurement just above the knee (I've noticed differences there!), both calves and left thigh.


Anyways... drumroll please...

Weight (still within my 3lb fluctuation)
Waist- 25.75in (down .75in!)
Hips- 35in (down .5)
R Thigh- 19.75in (down .5)
L Upper arm- 10in (same)
R upper arm- 10in
neck- 12in (same)
Waist to hip ratio- .74 (up .02)
L calf- 13in
R calf 13in
body fat %- 24.92% (as per above website)
above the knee- 15 in
waist at belly button- 28in

Total inches lost in 1 month= 2.25inches! (I doubled the thigh measurement)
Next time, I will have more measurements to compare.

I guess these are some more of the non-scale victories I have had since starting spark people. This is more proof that the scale is not always the best measure of progress!

    Wow, great result! I'll use your body fat % link to calculate mine, I would love to see the difference, too, instead of relying to the annual free health screening in the company (usually using a scale machine).

    Way to go!!!!!!! Man that's some pretty awesome progress for only a MONTH! =]=] That was a good idea, also, to find an online BMI calc.. I've actually been curious lately about what MY bmi is.. I've heard that calipers are the best measurement though.. wonder if I know anyone that has one I can just borrow? =p=p=p


Once again.. seriously.. way to go girl with staying strong through this month and sticking with the challenge! =D It looks like we're going to have a few more members joining in with us for this next month too! Whoot! Should be fun! =D

Friday! and weekend plan and drinking question

For some reason I feel like I am going on vacation this weekend (I'm not :( So many coworkers/ clients are that I have that countdown 'till the end of the day excited for something feeling. Either way, it's Friday!

I'm heading to my mom's house after work today. And I am also picking up Jimi's birthday present along the way (his birthday is on the 4th). I got him this:


His current tool box is like a glorified lunch box (not exaggerating).

Anyways... I ate 1 less snack today, but did have 1/2 scoop of Muscle Milk to keep my protein up (gotta get those points in the 100 Days of Summer Challenge!). I already planned out most of my food/ alcohol intake for the night so I don't go over for calories (let's be honest- it's the wine!). And we'll have yummy dinner with tons of freggies from my grandpa's garden.

Tomorrow, I'm going to see the movie Ted with Jimi and some friends. We're grilling out for dinner at our house beforehand. And I'll be that jerk who brings my own popcorn from home.... no butter!

Sunday, I have the entire day open! I haven't had a day of my weekend open in a VERY long time. I have some pinterest projects I want to get to and some sewing I need to do (oh NBD, pants are too big now...)

Also, anyone who has cut back on drinking....
Have you taken up anything in it's place? I find that I drink a lot of diet tonic and lime to avoid drinking alcohol, especially in social situations. I still look like I'm drinking, but I'm not. Everyone knows I'm not, so I'm not really I'm hiding it. I need to find something to do with my hands and something to drink that's not diet soda. I don't drink soda besides this tonic...

Just A Short Update (Because I'm motivated!)

I was sitting here thinking of ways to skip going to the gym today (It's nice outside, I need to return something at the mall, I need to return my library book, wash my car, etc). And then I checked out the challenges today for the 100 Days of Summer 2012 Challenge group.

"Power it Up: Increase the duration or intensity of your workout today. Give yourself a challenge!"

And there you have it. One little line worth 10 points (I don't ever get in the top 3, but I still like to participate) and on I will go! I plan to try out a new piece of cardio equipment (the gazelle glider thing), do my bodyrock exercise of the day, and maybe go for a walk because it really is so nice outside today. emoticon Thanks for the motivation!

    The "gazelle" thing is called an arc trainer in my gym (if I'm thinking of the right thing). It's what would happen if an eliptical and a stair master had a baby right? I LOVE that thing. It totally kicks my butt. Good luck and let me know what you think!
