It's Friday!!

Friday, June 07, 2013

Its a wet rainy one here in VA. Experiencing our first tropical storm of the season. Jimi thinks we need to have an 'Andre' party (like a hurricane party, but with Andre since the TS is named Andrea...). Yeah, we're not 20 anymore, so I don't think we need to do that emoticon

Yesterday was a draw. I planned to have a smoothie when I got home from work and finished my workout, but ended up eating a little bit of everything and a lot of peanut butter immediately when I walked in the door. I ended up snacking for about 1.5 hours. 850 calories of junk! I even had a workout pulled up on my computer so I could jump right in.

After I digested enough to be mobile, I did a cardio warm up and then did a 10 minute cardio/abs workout. About 30 minutes later, I also did the abs workout that I had planned to do before work.

Positive from yesterday, I drank 17 cups of water! I know a lot of people on sp comment on others drinking more water than necessary. I kind of just wanted ot see if I could drink a gallon of water in a day. When I follow the detox plan, I'll be drinking about that much water each day.

After 4 mornings of being a lazy bum, I FINALLY got out of bed to do some yoga this morning. I did hit snooze once, so I ended up just making up a 10 minute sequence instead of going downstairs and doing the video I picked out.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good for you for going through with a workout even after mindless snacking. I'm typically down for the count once I fall prey to snacking... What's this detox plan you're doing?

Way to turn things around and STILL get that workout in! That is a really big plus. Glad you proved to yourself you can get all your water in too! Super important during a detox. Good luck with the weather!
Enjoy your weekend emoticon

But props to you for getting your workout in and drinking that water! I've had that much in one day before; sometimes you just NEED it! Here's to a brighter day today :)

Happy Report!

Thursday, June 06, 2013

Well, I'm happy to report that I finally had an intense workout yesterday! According to my tracker, my last "intense" workout was a run on May 21st.
Link to my workout:
www.fitnessblender.com/v/workout-det
ail/Advanced-HIIT-Workout-Total-Body-H
igh-Intensity-Interval-Training/fe/

I did a 5 minute cardio warmup before the workout. I also went for a walk after lunch at work (first one in over 3 weeks!).

Food-wise, I did okay. I had a few instances where I wanted instant gratification and was grazing for a little while. I need to stop and ask myself if I am truly hungry or just eating.

Jimi and I decided to get rid of our gym membership. We haven't gone since the middle of March... J pretty much only went when I did, and I've been doing more workouts at home. I'm also going to sign up for a month long trial at a yoga studio near my office. There is one near my office and one near my house that I want to do trials at before I choose one.

I went to the grocery store yesterday and bought a lot of food in preparation to follow my detox plan again next week. J isn't sure he wants to participate this time, which is fine. Most of our normal meals can be tweaked to suit which things we are each going to eat.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

Waaaaay off track right now!

MAY GOALS:
*Continue 10 minutes of daily exercise streak. emoticon
*Download new music for ipod. emoticon
*Dedicate time to eating each meal. Stop multitasking and just eat (no tv, work, computer etc). emoticon
*Really work on incorporating different types of exercise each week (running, videos, hiit) emoticon
*Run one longer distance during the month (8+miles) emoticon

Wow. 1/5. May was a busy month for me. Busy at work and busy on the weekend. I know, I know. That shouldn't be an excuse. Definitely something I need to work on. On a side note, I made it to day 19 in the 30 day squat challenge before I stopped. We were at the beach and I just didn't continue :(

I think for June I need to choose some goals that are really easy to track. I've been doing 10 minute yoga sequences (or 10 minutes of abs) like 3 days a week and calling that my exercise for the day! It may keep my streak alive, but it is not challenging and seriously lacks intensity!

June Goals:
10 minutes of CARDIO every day (running, hiking, circuit training, HIIT etc). Every day!
Follow detox diet (as in the food I eat, not the 4-letter word) 2-3 days per week.
Drink 10+ glasses of water (or herbal tea) every day
Sign up for trial at yoga studio
meal plan!

Well, at least 1/5 is better than 0/5 and the one that you did do is super awesome! I just wish I had done that myself. That would add up big time!

Waaaaaaay Overdue

Thursday, May 30, 2013

I've seriously started a blog like 5 times and have yet to finish one or post anything in almost a month! I kept thinking I should wait until I have something to positive to post, which has finally happened.

I decided to do a detox this week (Tuesday-Thursday) to cut out the crap I've been eating lately (Jimi did it too!). We decided to cut out sugar, dairy, wheat, caffeine, alcohol and all processed foods. What did we eat? Tons of veggies, some chicken, beans, fruit and more veggies. And lots of water. Honestly, it really wasn't all that hard. Although tonight, I accidentally ate a few noodles that I was cooking for a pasta salad we're having this weekend. Tasting food to see if it's ready... old habits die hard... I also had a tiny bit of parmesan cheese each morning because I'd made a huge batch of hash brown cups over the weekend and didn't want them to go to waste. Link to recipe:
www.theyummylife.com/Parmesan_Hash_B
rown_Cups

I think the hardest part was not eating yogurt for breakfast. That probably sounds like it's not a big deal, but I eat breakfast at work and was at a loss for what else to pack with my fruit and oatmeal! Also, I think I'd had so much water during the day that I wasn't as snacky as I usually am in the evenings, so that was definitely a plus.

On the exercise front, I've been slacking hardcore. I've kept up with my 10 minutes streak (150 days woot woot!), but I've been barely scraping by and I'm seriously lacking intensity. I've been doing yoga and bodyweight exercises, but have only run once a week. I'll post something this weekend with new goals for June.

Woooohoooo! That is awesome! So happy to hear you stuck to it all week. Having the hubby do it with you makes a world of a difference. It makes it less tempting on days you want to give in.

Meal Plan (aka procrastinating)

Sunday, May 05, 2013

I have had the laziest weekend ever! I know we all need them every once in awhile, but geez. I feel like a bum (as I type this in my pjs...).

Ordinarily, I would start with a future meal, but last night's dinner was so good, I thought I'd post the link for the recipe.
Spicy Stuffed Spaghetti Squash
glipho.com/dichard/spicy-stuffed-spa
ghetti-squash

I went a little heavy on the cayenne, but man was this good. Instead of adding the filling onto the 'spaghetti,' I scraped the spaghetti into the pan with the filling, mixed it around, and then put it back into the skin and topped it with cheese. Since it was all hot already, I just broiled it for a few minutes to melt the cheese. J made sure I saved the recipe so we could make it again.

Today:
Tofu stir fry (no recipe, I just kind of throw stuff together)

Monday: Falafel with Tzatziki
recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai
l.asp?recipe=231490

I made the tzatziki today since it recommends making it a few hours in advance. We'll serve them with salads (possibly with the homemade flatbread from my last food blog since J really liked those)

I also need to make soup tomorrow. I'm still deciding between these two. It's supposed to rain most of this week, so soup will be nice.

Tuesday:
Grilled Barbecued Chicken with Roasted Asparagus with Balsamic Browned Butter

c-browned.html

Barbecue sauce recipe is J's. It's sweet and spicy and has bourbon in it.

Wednesday:
J is working, so I'll either have soup or make tofu stir fry again.

Thursday:
J will have finished up his certificate program. We may go out for dinner to celebrate or make homemade grilled pizza or this recipe: Cheesy Baked Spaghetti Squahs Boats with Grilled Chicken

boats

Friday:
J is working. I'll do soup or leftovers.

Also of note, Kroger had pineapples on sale for 99c!! I bought 4. And then ate 3/4 of one yesterday...

Hope everyone has a great week :)

Let me know how your tziki turns out. Last time I made some it tasted good, but wasn't thick enough because of the water content of the cucumber.

And I vote you do the sweet potato, black bean chili. Looks very similar to the recipe I used and it's amazing. (I swapped out half the sweet potatoes and 1 of the cans of black beans for equal amount of diced chicken so that it had protein) Be ready to add some extra water, with mine, the sweet potatoes absorb lots of it and it ended up thicker than stew my first attempt (still delicious, second round was actually chili)
