Had a really nice run in the Black Warrior 25K on Saturday. The weather was great. The trails were lovely (well, except for the deepest over the shoe and over the gaiter mud puddles I found!) I got to chat and run with some of my buddies. Even with babying my foot, I finished in a decent time (3:24).
at the starting line
and at the finish!
Finished feeling like I could have done more, but also knowing it was just as well I didn't. This foot thing is REALLY frustrating. It's not like a broken bone or sprained muscle that you can't move on at all; no, it teases you by not hurting THAT MUCH. And, yeah, my foot was a bit more sore after the race, so it's not taken care of yet. MAJOR GRUMBLES!
Post race funny: they had picnic food available after the race. I got myself a veggie burger, fixed it all up with pickles and cheese and whatnot, took a bite and CRUNCH!!! It had been sitting on the grill so long it was totally dried out and hard as a board. Not tasty. Not edible. So, I removed the veggie pattie, tapped out a rhythm with it against the bench I was sitting on, and ate my cheese sandwich.

+ last night's dinner: Morningstar spicy black bean burger on artisan jalapeno-cheddar bread with avocado; Healthy Choice tomato soup with diced tomatoes and chiles added.
+ spending the evening reading (cover to cover) a good novel. Lindqvist, John Ajvide. HANDLING THE UNDEAD. Thomas Dunne: 2009. Interesting zombie tale and subtle reflection on the human soul by the Swedish author of LET ME IN. This was the 16th book that I've read so far this year.
+ weight is back down after last weekend's Valentine excesses. If I keep on track, my next mid-week's weigh in should see a noticable deficit again.
+ am running a 25K trail race tomorrow (Phillip Parker Memorial/Black Warrior trail run in the Bankhead Forest). And I actually feel ok about having decided to do the 25K instead of the full 50K, due to some foot pain issues I've been having! (Lol...all it took was my best running buddies Dana, Noelle and Mona telling me it was smarter to rein myself in, and B. "ordering" me to do so.)
+ it's a three day weekend!
+ While I am still waiting on my transition sunglasses, I did get my new pair of bifocals yesterday. They are stylish, the metal frames are a kicky red color, and OMG....I'm not looking through a cataract-like haze (of scratched, scuffed lenses) anymore! I can't believe the difference.

The weekend before Valentines Day was quite good for my emotional heart, but maybe not so good for my body...
Yesterday, my bf took me out to dinner at Macaroni Grill* and also gave me a box of chocolates**. My diet and no binge streak went out the window.
+it was only ONE day off track.
+yes, I did overeat, but I didn't eat the whole damn box of candy in one sitting or by myself. (I shared some with B. and more with my sister.)
*I'm really getting tired of eating out; even when it's supposed to be special meals or "good food"--its not really. For instance, the shrimp, spinach and mushroom pasta I ordered on Sunday had sounded so good, but was only meh (and way too buttery). I think I'm going to make a couple of dining resolutions. 1)to cook at home more and eat out less and 2)when I do eat out, to NOT do so at chain restaurants but rather at local places.
**I had mentioned to B. that my girly-girl heart had always yearned to get a big fancy heart shaped candy box for Valentines Day, one decorated with lace, ribbons and flowers. I would have been quite happy just to get the empty box, and it would have been better for my diet that way!
LOL and Oh, well; it IS an empty box now. :)
This was another light week of alternating walking and running and days off (26 miles total; 5 days of some exercise, 2 rest days, only got the gym once). My forefoot is better, but (frustratingly) still not totally healed.

Week 2 Weigh In for Scale Back Alabama. Current weight: 153 lbs down -3.2 lbs this week. (which gets me to the first -5 lb notch)
Ran 5 days this past week (only 26 miles); went to the gym 4 times.
14 days with no binges.
Only bummer is some sort of pain in my right forefoot/metatarsals; started this week with a 14 mile run on Monday, felt reasonably fine during it, but afterward the ball of my foot has remained tender. Am trying to look at it as a way to keep myself from over training right now, but have to admit I'm pouty about it .
Overall tho, feeling healthy and good.
here's what I think my foot problem may be.
I think I'll try some of the adivce given, maybe get some forefoot pads, and will start looking into my next new pair of shoes.
