My son went back to college last week and with him my personal trainer. I learned quite a bit from him about running, especially about form and pacing. I'm still working on both, but I have come along way this summer. My pr for the 3 miles is now 25.5 minutes. He said I could keep up with the jv high school girls (before they get in shape). WooHoo. I miss you Jacob and I'll keep thrusting my knees forward.

I knew that running would give me better health and more self confidence, what I didn't know is it would give me something to talk about with my teen age son. I've only been jogging for a couple of years, while he's been running for 6 years which puts him in the position to give me advice. Today he helped me pick out a digital watch that I can more accurately time myself and start doing minutes during my runs (jogs). We discuss our runs, local trails and nutrition. Both of us ran the 10 mile cape mountain run (he came in 2nd, I was about an hour behind him). I never knew that I could have this relationship with my son and it's all due to me getting my buns off the couch and start running.

    What a nice blog. I am so happy for you and your son. Sometimes it is difficult to have something in common with a teenager. It is wonderful that both you and he share a love for running. Congratulations!!!!!

So far I have lost over 50 pounds over the last few years and my weight has stabilized. The bad news is my weight has stabilized with about 10 more pounds to go. There are weeks I loose 2 or 3 pound and then I gain then back again.

Physically I feel good. This year I did the 10k Rhody Run and the 10 mile Cape mountain Run. I have come so far even over the last year. The bad news, I have a stomach that looks like a deflated beach ball. I made the mistake of looking down the other day when I was doing push ups. My stomach was about hitting the ground when my arms were straight. Really sexy, right?

Today, somebody reminded me about all the weight I have lost. I should feel great, but I reminds me of why I gained it in the first place. So many wasted years of being unhealthy. I know I should look to the future and not in the past.

Tomorrow, I might take a break from jogging and go kayaking instead or maybe walk my dog. I will watch what I eat. Most important, I will remind myself that I should be proud of what I have accomplished so far and not obsess about my stomach!!

  


Cape Mountain Run

Yesterday I ran, walked the 10 mile Cape mountain Run. My muscle are screaming at me, but I feel so good. This was the year they reversed the course so it was uphill the last 2 miles. It was a drizzly day, just enough to make parts of the trail slippery. I didn't make my goal of coming under 2 hours (2 hours 11 minute), but I'm already thinking of training for it for next year. I thought I wasn't bad on hills, but I wasn't prepared for those hills. The last mile had to be the longest one ever. See you next year, Cape Mountain Run.

Cape Mountain Run

Today I signed up for the Cape Mountain Run for Saturday. I found out that Jacob had signed up and since I have to drive him up anyway, I might as well go for it. I did OK for the 10K Rhody Run, but this is 10 miles on a difficult trail. I know the trail, I have walked it and ridden it. I might not be fast, but I can do it!! My next blog will be explaining how great I did.
