Woohoo! I passed the pastry yesterday!

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

I'm running late, but I have to post. I did it! I passed on the pastries. I grabbed almonds and some veggies when I left yesterday. Got the McD's Southwest chicken salad for lunch and only used 1/2 a packed of the low fat balsamic vinaigrette dressing. For dinner I grabbed a cup of 15 bean soup with 2/3 cup fat free cheese and some strawberries. I met all nutritional stats at the low end. Woohoo! The class went well. I enjoyed it. My HAT meeting was productive also.

I'm tired today, but will perk up when I get to class. I plan to repeat lunch with the Asian chicken salad today which is lower in calories, but they said they were bringing donuts and that's already tempting me. I read the nutritional info on the pastry boxes and that did the trick. I'll look up donuts before I leave. That should work.

Have a great day everyone.

Search and Rescue

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

I'm on our local Search and Rescue team. Today I start a 3-day class. Tonight I have a HAT meeting for Boy Scouts. Each require an hour travel time and they are back to back so eating will be challenging. I'll have to eat out lunch and dinner because I haven't been shopping so there is nothing here to pack a lunch. If I have to I'll eat at McDonald's every meal. I like the chicken salad which fits the program and I can take fruit and nuts for snacks in between. I always have apples and nuts on hand. I can make this work.

I hope you all have a Sparkling day today. Remember success isn't a huge undertaking, it's a lot of small decisions all day. You can make those small decisions count. I believe in you.

What are you grateful for today?

Monday, August 29, 2011

Today is the beginning of a new week presenting the opportunity to make healthy choices one minute at a time. I choose to be grateful every day. Today I am grateful for:

All my supportive SparkFriend current and future.
My sister and nieces who are awesome.
Indoor plumbing; I know what it's like without it.
All the things my body can do in spite of my arthritis; thank you body.
A job I truly enjoy.

There are more good things in your life than bad. I challenge you to find them. What are you grateful for this week? Let me hear from you by posting on my blog.

Date night

Sunday, August 28, 2011

Today is date night. We are going thrift shopping then out to dinner. I always get to select the restaurant. It will either be Applebee's or Panda Express tonight, but I'm leaning toward Panda Express. I already found their nutritional information using a SparkSearch and will plan my meal before I go. It's my one "free" meal each week that I eat clean, but that doesn't mean I have to go overboard. I can still eat well and enjoy the experience. I finally lost all six pounds I gained in Sacramento and I'm not going to blow it now.

Have a wonderfully healthy Sunday all!

Kayaking for fun and fitness

Saturday, August 27, 2011

I took a friend from work kayaking for the first time yesterday. Two weeks ago I took a SparkPeople friend kayaking for the first time. Both report enjoying it and can't wait to go again. We just went to a calm local lake, but my work friend expressed an interest in more extreme versions after she masters lake.

Both times we had great fun laughing as I taught them how to get back in the boat if it capsizes. It is so peaceful and relaxing. Better than a therapist. Afterward we had picnic lunches al la SparkPeople that were delicious. We weren't paddling hard so I entered a conservative 2 hours into my fitness tracker and still burned 1000+ calories.

I won't post a photo of someone else without permission, so here I am at the end of the trip yesterday. You can see I left all my stress on the lake. I was so relaxed I kept driving slower and slower on the way home enjoying the mountain scenery.

What a great way to start the weekend. Make it a good one everyone.

I have only tried kayaking twice myself and loved it. It is very relaxing, calming and peaceful out there on the water. You look like you don't want to leave the lake in that picture and I don't blame you.
