Day 1

Monday, September 01, 2014

I have been drinking so much diet coke lately. I've decided to treat my addiction to it just like any other addiction. I admit that I'm powerless over it, and it is making my life unmanageable. I'm turning it and my will over to the care of God. I have learned that cutting back isn't an option for me. I drank my last can of diet coke this morning, and have had nothing to drink besides water since. Let's just say that my body is noticing already!

I've been trying to give up diet Pepsi for a long time. I've cut down a lot but still can't kick it.

Keep your eye on the prize! You can do it!

I am trying to figure some things out....

Monday, January 19, 2009

As I worked up a serious sweat on both the treadmill and the stationary bike this evening, I continued to contemplate some things that have been going on in my mind. I am very happy with the results that I have been getting from changing my eating habits and getting more exercise. I have noticed that the more I exercise, the more I want to exercise. I have gone from someone that loathes exercise to someone that has become hooked for life! Is it that I am hooked on the endorphins that my body is producing? If so, what a great addiction!!!!!

Some more of the thinks I've been thinking about are not quite as positive. As I look around me, and I start to see America get fatter and fatter, I am getting frustrated. First of all...the increasing health problems of our nation's inhabitants...is it any wonder that as the obesity rate increases, so do the health problems??? What are people (and what was I) thinking? It saddens me to think that our epidemic of entitlement here in the U.S. has spilled over into our daily health habits. I can just hear some of the people I know saying, "Oh, I'm not worried about how overweight I am. When I am older, I will have someone to care for me." As a nation, I think that we have become so complacent about obesity that it has become the accepted norm. I am a registered nurse and I work in an operating room, so I get to see what being overweight does to your "insides" too!

Please don't misinterpret what I have written as being insensitive. I love my neighbors for who they are, regardless of any physical characteristic. Being currently overweight myself, I am making these statements about myself just as much as anyone else out there. I just feel that this is the way so many companies out there chasing the "almighty dollar" have duped so many of us in so many ways......

If I keep going, I am going to be up all night, and I have to get some sleep. God bless you!!!!! More venting tomorrow, perhaps!

It is amazing how the world looks from the other side and how it reinforces your will to stay in shape with so many reminders walking around. Hopefully we are part of a much larger trend of getting in shape the healthy and correct way now that we as a nation are reaching a critical "mass" with our weight. Either that or our economy will get so bad people will not be able to eat so much because they are working 3 jobs and stressing about day to day life all the time in a way of not thinking"What does the world owe me today?" instead we will be thinking "How can I make it to the next day?". Hope we all just get healthy and stay economically stable. If we would treat our economy like we treat our weight, ok we do, but if we can get the healthy body and economy going at the same time that would be great as well. Need to think of a way to tie these two together through SparkPeople somehow. Promote healthy finances as well as a healthy body.

It is amazing what the fat will do to your insides. I had no idea until I watched Biggest Loser and the doc was showing one of the contestants xrays of what fat will do to the organs and even infiltrate them. Wow, big eye opener. Needless to say I jumped up off the sofa and started doing some jumping jacks. Now I look for every opportunity throughout the day to burn extra calories.

the culture in the u.s. sure does make it easy for us to be sedentary, overeat, and eat garbage. supersize me, please. it is very sad. as was previously stated, let's all lead by example. sparkpeople is changing america one person at a time!

I agree with you too. You are not judging anyone. Just making comments on observations.

Since dropping 70 lbs I too look around me at friends, neighbors, relatives and it saddens me greatly to see so much obesity. I try to get everyone to join SP in the hopes it will help.

Like Joe, I believe in leading by example. So I bounce around letting folks see that I have more energy now.

And drive my DH crazy, LOL.

Hugs,
Linda

I agree with you 100%. I've seen too many friends and relatives die before age forty due to hypertension/blood pressure issues. I'm trying to lead by example at home and at work.

Wii Fit!!!!

Friday, January 09, 2009

Got the Wii Fit delivered today. I created my profile and did some of the exercises. It was different, but I really enjoyed it! I think I am going to get a lot of good out of it. Unfortunately, my Wii Fit age was 43, but I am working hard to change that!!! I think this will really help me get into better shape, as will swimming at the YMCA!!!

I'm trying.....

Wednesday, January 07, 2009

I am sick today. I was feeling okay this morning, just a scratchy throat. By this evening, I have a full-blown cold. I did eat very healthy foods today and drank lots of water, so I will hopefully be recovering fast.
